HT4060 Ipad Air Loooong Charging time???

Is it normal that my ipad air takes around 12 hours to charge from 10% to 100%?

Hey DJSnakes,
Thanks for the question. How are you charging the iPad? The following resource outlines the best tips for charging the battery:

Could be the charger, cable or iPad. Plug the USB cable into your computer. It may say "Not Charging", however, it is charging slowly and will verify that the cable is good.
Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. My iPad Air spends more time burreing than it should. I have 3 iPads 1 and 3 generation and the Air. The 2 older iPads don't have this problem. Is there a setting that is causing this or dose my Air have a problem???

The troubling thing to me is the fact that the charger gets extremely hot - according to what you are saying. The charger can get warm and can get fairly warm when the iPad is charging, but it should never get extremely hot. Make an appointment at an Apple Store, take the iPad, the cable and the charger with you and ask them to look at everything for you.

  • HT4060 what is the charging time of new iPad 4th gen??

Hi have bought a new iPad 4th Generation. it takes more than 3 hrs to full charge even when i use its 10W adapter supplied with box. How much time exactly iPad takes to full charge??

That's a lot faster than most users report. Usually overnight.

  • Ipad Air not charging, now not even starting up

i have iPad air (first generation) slightly more than a year old (conveniently just out of warranty)
for the last few weeks or so, I've been having trouble charging the iPad.  sometimes it would charge normally, other times you would plug it in and it would show that it wasn't.  I tested with different power supplies, cables, and outlets, so i know they weren't the issue.  The only way i was able to get it charging again (and it was trial and error, no one way always worked reliably) was by, switching from the outlet to my computers USB port, (and then sometimes back again to the charger when that didn't work), and rebooting and then switching outlet. But it was very random.
At no point did I ever let the battery run all the way down... However, this morning it did before i realized and the iPad automatically powered down, and now I cannot get it to start without powering down again.  Whether plugged into an outlet or my USB port, I am stuck in a 'loop' - where i reboot the iPad (which used to work), it goes to the bright apple screen, then starts up to the home screen and shows 1% charge in the upper right - but doesn't indicate that its charging. Then i immediately get a message of "Low battery -  5% of battery remaining". Then the iPad automatically powers down after 30 seconds or so (or as soon as i try to do something with it). I get the screen showing the big battery with a little red, but it never charges to the point where it reboots on its own.  Then i reboot myself, and the cycle starts all over again.
I  have tried the method some have suggested elsewhere on this forum of "repeatedly rebooting" until i get a higher percentage of battery charge showing -- which hast worked so far.  But even if i did, how do i then get the thing to start charging normally?  It simply doesn't charge at all when its plugged in... ??
Is it simply a bad battery (after just a year)??   If so, does that mean they will install a new battery, or that i will have to trade in my personalized 1-year-old iPad for a 'refurbished' one??  Does this mean I will have to be without my iPad for any period of time- and that ill have to restore from backup (which could take over a day)?
Thanks for any and all help....

    thanks for the reply
i have since called apple phone support and brought it into the apple store
both ran battery diagnostics and said battery was fine:  phone support blamed a potentially faulty power port.  apple genius was convinced it was the third party USB/lightning cables i use from monoprice, which I've used for months and the two i am currently using are brand new.  he rushed me through and strongly suggested i buy an apple cable (my 2 original apple cables for this and my iPhone frayed within months and were unusable).
Strangely, it seems to be working now. Though the two monoprice power cables now only work on one side, and not if you flip it  (if i use them with my iPhone, it doesn't matter which side, so i still suspect something is funky with the port.  Its out of warranty by a couple of months, so if i have to replace it it will cost like $300 plus the time to ship it in repair it and send back (1-2 weeks).

  • IPad Air 2 Charger

I just purchases an iPad Air 2 64GB.  I was surprised during unboxing that the charger it comes with is 10 watts when the iPad 4th generation and first iPad Air came with a 12 watt charger.  Does anyone know why Apple reverted to the weaker charger?  Why wouldn't one want to charge their device in a shorter amount of time?  I was dissapointed.

No one knows why they did it. Apple does what Apple does.

  • Playing with ipad air while charging

hello all,as the title says is it safe to hcarge ipad and play with it?cause i was having an ipad air it was heating so much and im saying really hot cannt touch it while playing and charging that halmwared my battery took it to apple premium reseller(here no apple) gave me another one i told them that i was playing with it while it was charging they told me for sure it will heat cause the charger is working double time so you shouldnt play with it while its charging.Anyways they gave me a new one im scared if i play with it while it was charging maybe same thing will happen...By the way i gave them my charger to test it from like 1week and my ipad now is completely turned of with 10per cent battery is it ok?Thanks

You could always adapt the workflow of charging overnight. then you can't play while it charges (presuming you sleep while it charges)

  • IPad Air too much time to open a link from Mail

SInce the last update to iOS 8.02 my iPad Air takes too much time to open a web link from the Mail App, Safari open itself with a long delay.
furthermore The attachments into email are often not readable, have to reload the message to be able to open the attachment.
LAst but not least, I have too many messages not downloaded from the iMap server and I can read just the title of it.

There's a large thread around about this Dolphin problem.
Disabling Nepomuk in System Settings has proved to be the

  • My Ipad Air reboot all time. How can i fix this?

All time that I am using my Ipad Air, than he reboot unexpected.
Just using any app, as safari, pages, keynote, numbers and any other apps.
I do not know how can I fix this.
    Thank you all.

    Hi André_RJ,
It sounds like no matter what app you are using, your iPad Air restarts on its own. I would start by resetting the phone, with these steps:
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
If the issue persists I would use the following article to backup your device to iTunes and restore it from your backup. If the issue persists, then restore it one more time as new using the same article to isolate to the backup file itself.
How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • IPad Air Not Charging

Hi, I just purchased a new iPad Air and I've noticed something odd happening involving the charging process. I have the 12W USB Power Adapter and lightning cable that came with it, a 10W USB Power Adapter from my old iPad 3, and 2 aftermarket lightning cables (from Amazon, not likely Apple certified).
    iPad Air iOS 7.1.1:
    12W+Apple cable-OK!
    10W+Apple cable-OK!
    12W+after market cable-"Not Charging"
    10W+after market cable-"Not Charging"
(I must clarify-initially it shows charging, but if I let the iPad sleep then wake it up, that's when it says "Not Charging")
..now here is where it gets odd.. I also have an iPhone 5S on iOS 7.1.2..
    iPhone 5S iOS 7.1.2
    12W+Apple cable-OK!
    10W+Apple cable-OK!
    12W+after market cable-OK!
    10W+after market cable-OK!
(no issues with the same aftermarket lightning cables tested with the iPad Air)
I know Apple has had a warning/pop-up message re: unsupported accessory, cable might not work properly, and up until now I thought that message was software/iOS based.. but now I'm experiencing a flat out lack of compatibility (not even a warning/pop-up message) and it appears to be hardware based. Both my iPad Air and iPhone are running iOS 7.1.x, yet the iPad Air refuses to charge using an aftermarket lightning cable where the iPhone 5S charges without incidence!?
Can anyone shed some light on this situation I'm describing?
    Thanks!!

@Demo @Skydiver119, Thank you for your responses.. Since reading them, I started searching for '12W lightning cable'.. it's not really turning up the results I was hoping for.. I can search for 'iPad Air and lightning cable'.. but of course majority of product pages don't post specs like rated wattage, and even some claim compatibility with the iPad Air, but then you read user reviews and they state the cable does not work with the iPad Air..
I am looking for a 10'-12' cable.. I have an unopened Sharper Image 10' cable at home that has 'MFi Certified' on the box.. I will try that and see if it works with the iPad Air.. if it does, I guess I'll start looking for 'MFi Certified' 10'-12' cables.. I know monoprice has one for ~$13.
    Thanks!

  • Can ipad air be charged any where in the world on any voltage?

    Hello ,
i am curious can i charge my ipad air on any voltage, like if i travel to uk,canada or to pakistan, can i charge my ipad without any converters regardless of the native electricity . ?
In short do i need converters for every country that i visit ?
    Thx

An iPad's charger is rated for 100 to 240V, 50 to 60 Hz (that's written on the label on mine) - this page (assuming that it's correct) doesn't list any countries that are out of that range : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mains_electricity_by_country
    Here in the UK it's 230V, 50 Hz ; Canada is 120V, 60 Hz ; Pakistan is 230V, 60 Hz
All that you might need is a plug adapter, not a converter
