HT4060 Should iPad be allowed to run very low before charging or is it best to keep it highly charged?

Should iPad be allowed to constantly run low before charging or is it best to keep it highly charged at most times?

Battery care
1. Make sure you run the battery down to 5% and then charging it to 100% once a month.
2. You should start charging your iPad when the battery charge is less than 10%. Over discharging the battery will shorten the lifespan of its battery.
3. Never store the battery fully discharged. Apply some charge before storage, and then charge fully before use.
4. When possible avoid frequent full discharges. Instead, charge the battery more often. There is no concern of battery's memory when applying unscheduled charges.
5. Avoid iPad from overheating > 35°.
6. Remove casing/sleeve when charging to allow heat to dissipate from back cover
7. To safe battery power turn off :
a. background app refreshing
b. push notifications and/or push mail
c. lower screen brightness
d. minimize the use of location services
e. increase Fetch New Data interval.

  • Should I let my battery run down low before charge?

Which is more efficient on the battery:
-Holding off charging the battery until it gets low
-Plug in the charger even when the battery isn't too low. I would be plugging it in simply because I would be near the charger.
I'm trying to find out which is more efficient for the battery and what I need to do to get the MOST out of my battery.
    Thanks.

Great tips! Sure will save me from a lot of typing.

  • HT4060 I can't find a definite answer anywhere regarding whether or not you need to turn the iPad mini off before charging. So my question is should I turn the iPad mini off or leave it on before charging? Thanks in advance.

I rarely if ever turn my iPad off. I charge it when the battery is low or at night while I'm sleeping. Even then I close the Smart Cover and let it sleep but I do not turn it off. It doesn't matter when you charge the iPad.
The most efficient way to charge the iPad is to use the charger that came with it and plug that into a known good wall outlet.

The disk space is running VERY low and I would love an idea. I make videos and upload them to youtube and I need space to do that. Thanks for your time!

You should never, EVER let a conputer hard drive get completely full, EVER!
With Macs and OS X, you shouldn't let the hard drive get below 15 GBs or less of free data space.
If it does, it's time for some hard drive housecleaning.
Follow some of my tips for cleaning out, deleting and archiving data from your Mac's internal hard drive.
Have you emptied your iMac's Trash icon in the Dock?
If you use iPhoto, iPhoto has its own trash that needs to be emptied, also.
If you store images in other locations other than iPhoto, then you will have to weed through these to determine what to archive and what to delete.
If you use Apple Mail app, Apple Mail also has its own trash area that needs to be emptied, too!
Look though other Apple Mail folders like the junk mail and delete the mail that is in there. Look through your sent items folders and see there is any mail in there that can be deieted.
Delete any old or no longer needed emails and/or archive to disc, flash drives or external hard drive, older emails you want to save.
Other things you can do to gain space.
Once you have around 15 GBs regained, do a search, download and install OmniDisk Sweeper.
This app will help you locate files that you can move/archive and/or delete from your system.
STAY AWAY FROM DELETING ANY FILES FROM OS X SYSTEM FOLDER!
Look through your Documents folder and delete any type of old useless type files like "Read Me" type files.
Again, archive to disc, flash drives, ext. hard drives or delete any old documents you no longer use or immediately need.
Look in your Applications folder, if you have applications you haven't used in a long time, if the app doesn't have a dedicated uninstaller, then you can simply drag it into the OS X Trash icon. IF the application has an uninstaller app, then use it to completely delete the app from your Mac.
Download an app called OnyX for your version of OS X.
When you install and launch it, let it do its initial automatic tests, then go to the cleaning and maintenance tabs and run the maintenance tabs that let OnyX clean out all web browser cache files, web browser histories, system cache files, delete old error log files.
Typically, iTunes and iPhoto libraries are the biggest users of HD space.
move these files/data off of your internal drive to the external hard drive and deleted off of the internal hard drive.
If you have any other large folders of personal data or projects, these should be archived or moved, also, to the optical discs, flash drives or external hard drive and then either archived to disc and/or deleted off your internal hard drive.
    Good Luck!

  • I am thinking of buying a "new" iPad but I have a very large iPhoto library which I would like to keep intact and be able to view on my new iPad.  Is there a way to use a external storage device to store the iPhoto library and view it on the iPad?

I am thinking of buying a "new" iPad but I have a very large iPhoto library which I would like to keep intact and be able to view on my new iPad.  Is there a way to use a external storage device to store the iPhoto library and view it on the iPad?

You can't use an external hard drive like you would with a computer.
You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)
When you first connect the USB flash drive, you will only see thumbnails of the pics on the iPad; you have to import the pic file to see the full size. With your large library of pics, you will have to do this repeateably and then delete pics so you don't exceed your memory capacity.

  • HT4060 Should I let the battery run down before charging my iPad or iPhone to help the battery last longer?

Should I let the battery run down before charging my iPad or iPhone or iPod Nano to help the battery last longer?  I took a class at Verizon and they said let it drain completely and it would last longer.  Thanks

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. Ther does seem to be  quite a lot of comments about this issue
It seems the charger is a little slow and takes upto 4 hours to charge
closing all apps and leave the  ipod in standby seems to off the best charging experience
    I hope the Photo helps
In my view apple should have included a better charger for the price, the new 12w adaptor will reduce the charge time and resolve you problem, however its about $15

  • My CPU is running very low and so far nothing helped

Hello everybody, first sorry for my bad English (probably)
So, my PC is DELL Inspiron 1570 (CPU - Core 2 Duo SU7300 2x1,3 GHz) when I watch videos on youtube for example, my PC "lags" it's like the processor is 0.3 Ghz its the same feeling. If I watch HD video on full screen its HELL, can't
see anything. The same thing is with gaming and I play (Warcraft III) very old game for this PC. Four years  ago, when u bought it, there was n problem, the problems started few months ago, slightly. Don't think I'm somekind of idiot with 1000 running
    processes.
Let me explain what have I done so far to fix it, and nothing worked:
Reinstal OS, cleaning the inner of the laptop, Spydoctor check, CCleaner check, DLL fixer check, TuneUp check, Disc defragmentation (deep with restart) Full virus scan, stopped most of the useless Services, took the startup processes to minimum (only the antivirus).
Also i have a cooler fan, my stock fan is forced to blow always (it didn't fix my problems so far) My average CPU temp is 50 and the peak is 60.
    I stopped the Speedstep technology.
    My HDD is 40% full.
My drivers are up to date, but not the OS updates, for obvious reasons :/ (im Bulgarian)
Even my PS6 lags when i try to work, but last year it was OK.
Also, when i try to watch video or play this old game, there is aaaaa, how to say, mmm "pause" for about a second in intervals of 2-5 minutes. I've never seen something like this, and believe me, I used to fix most of the PCs in the neighbourhood
The PC is 4 years old, and the first reinstall i made was 7-8 months ago, when the problems started, and i was forced to do it... but as i said it doesn't help.
Is it hardware issue? Can you guys help me to diagnose this crap, or even better to fix it :). I'll be very gracefull, if we manage to solve it. I can't afford a new one :s.
Last words: It's like the PC's parameters are very very very low, and tried everything to boost it up.

    Hi,
Did this occur on just when you attempt to watch something and paly old games? How about the new game and other behaviour?
Because you have already reinstalled operating system and trie many other solution. I suspect it might be caused by video card.
It's recommend you take a hardware test for your computer.

  • "Low Disk Space - You're running very low on Disk Space C:"

I'm running low on resources in my C: partition, where OS: MS Windows 7 Professional (32 bit) resides, in my ThinkPad T410 (2516-CTO). I should be cleaning it. I've already run CCleaner, and want to avoid the partition expansion operation. I have 50 GB there, and my 2nd and only other D: partition for Data of 400 GB is almost full also.
Until I get a reasonable portable HDD, to handle this risky issue, any idea if it is safe to delete at least 4 huge 800 MB sessions here c:\Program Files\Lenovo\System Update\session\ ? I imagine these had to do with old updates that won't be needed anymore.
Any other better suggestions are also welcome.
    Thanks in advance, C
PS: Couldn't find anything related here.

Just to add that I found the answer by my own here in http://forum.notebookreview.com/
    Answer:
One must keep system and temp directories, QuestResponse.xml and updates.ser files all from the Session Folder within the lenovo-system-update-session area, or else System Update won't start. Then, one can safely delete all other directories.
    1st urgent issue, solved.
Nevertheless, I should stil find out a fix to the not minor 2nd issue, the full Backup Lenovo Recovery Partition Q: from my HDD (6,76 GB, with only 364 MB free available) where I should either replace the 1st and only backup I made and left there, or blow up the whole partitioned HDD and start all over from scratch, which I'm trying to avoid.
I already know that the other obvious solution would be to get a huge Portable HDD. Though I have almost 70 GB left in one of those, I must find a way to move that space required from Q: over there, and make a backup too.

  • HT4060 My iPad 3 is taking over 12 hours to charge.  Any suggestions?

It now takes almost 12 hours to charge my iPad 3 using a wall socket as a power souce.  Do I need a new battery?

Are you using an iPad charger? it can be very easy to accidentally use an iPhone one. But the iPad charger puts out 10-12W while the iPhone one only 5W.
If you are using an iPad charger you can swap outlets and, if possible, swap cords and charger. If the problem persists then I'd call your local apple store and make an appointment and have them check it out.

  • Running very low on system memory message

At the suggestion of "the wine snob" I am starting this as a separate thread.
I just started tuning into this forum because on Sunday, I decided that I would try to do something with the vdeo clips that my husband took on a recent trip with a Flip ultra HD and to utilize the opportunity to start to get familiar with Premiere elements 7.  The clips had already been imported into the computer, so I brought them in to PREL  as files, rather than as video capture.
All day long, the program kept crashing, often preceded by the message in the title of this post (see attachment).  By about 6 PM not only did the program crash, but the entire computer crashed to blue screen, ugh!!
This is on a relatively new system, purchased in April, a dell XPS 435T, quad core with 6 gb of ram and an ATI Radeon4870 GDDR5 video card with 1024 mb of video ram running Vista Home Premium 64 bit.
I was ready to pull my hair out.  It made no sense to me that I should have such trouble with program and system crashes when a few months back, I was bringing in a lot of old hi 8  video into PREL, on a 4 year old laptop, with a single processor and 2 gb of ram.  I made a few short video and never had these issues.
Then it dawned on me that those files all came in as avi files; the Flip video comes in as mp4s.  So I googled something like "mp4 premiere elements," and it brought me to this post by Steve Grisetti:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/437535?tstart=0
So I downloaded the suggested software and converted all of these Flip clips to avi.  When I started the new project in PREL, I wasn't sure if I used the correct preset so out of curiosity, I started a new project choosing the HDV 720 p 30 preset and one last time tried using the mp4 clips.  PREL crashed again after about 5 minutes if it took that long, preceeded first by the low system memory message.
So then I tried a project using the avi files and guess what.  I'm going over an hour here and still have not crashed.
I think it would be helpful if those of you who have had this message could post what kind of clips you have been working on (the file format) as well as the computer specs and operating system.  Maybe if any of the Adobe tech support staff peek into this forum, they will see a trend in these posts.
    Regards,
    Cynthia Merzer

At least you are getting this error message, as it gives one a moment to Save recent edits. At this point, I would do a Save_As and increment by say 01 so if the program does shut down, while doing the Save, you do not run the risk of corrupting your Project. If the Save_As does go well, there is nothing lost, other than the time to reboot and relaunch.
Now, I would definitely look at the "Clean, Lean & Mean Editing Machine" article. Much imporvement can be made to an editing computer, even one just out of the box. Steve G. also has several FAQ articles on optimizing one's system for NLE work and for Vista. All will be useful.
Upon delivery, most purchased computers are at about 20% to 60% of potential. There is usually a ton of bloatware that does nothing for the users, except sap resources. As we add programs, more of this "stuff" is added. As we update and the like, temp files and various elements of detritus will fill the HDD's. I know that it sounds odd that a brand new computer would be filled with "stuff" so early on, but it is a fact of life. At least most mfgr's do not still install AOL "stuff" that is of little use and just takes up room and tons of resources. Still, there are too many similar programs, that cost performance.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
