HT4061 Help with Restore error message "An unknown error has occurred (2006)"

My iphone 4s stopped working suddenly today - I have tried to restore it but am getting an error message every time that says "An unknown error has occurred (2006)" - does anyone know what I can do please?

Hello Miranda,
The following article contains information that may help get your iPhone restored.
iTunes: Specific update-and-restore error messages and advanced troubleshooting
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694
Error 2000-2009 (2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009, and so on)
If you experience this issue on a Mac, disconnect third-party devices, hubs, spare cables, displays, reset the SMC, and then try to restore. If you are using a Windows computer, remove all USB devices and spare cables other than your keyboard, mouse, and the device, restart the computer, and try to restore. If that does not resolve the issue, try the USB issue-resolution steps and articles listed for Error 1604 above. If the issue persists, it may be related to conflicting security software. If the errors persist on another computer and known-good USB cable, the device may need service.
All the best,
Allen

    Thanks for the welcome and the reply!
    I looked at KB25882 and my settings are good, so that didn't help.
    I had this problem over a year ago, and someone at RIM found a bit set that shouldn't have been set and fixed it (that is my terminology for what happened).
    I am really looking for a way to contact RIM directly.  I hate going through the mill with my carrier to get it escalated to RIM for resolution......  <sigh>
    Hi mgpainter
                                Most easiest way to Contact RIM is through your Carrier but as you don't prefer that than there is another way of support called Incident Based Support but just want to inform you that its not free.If you want have a try  BlackBerry Incident Based Support .
    Good Luck

    Every time I try to update an app or download from iTunes a message appears 'unknown error has occurred' can anyone help as to why this would happen and how to fix the problem? Thanks

    Are you using a proxy or a VPN to connect to the internet? If you are, this is possibly the reason why. I suggest using anothe connection which is not a proxy.

  • BEA intercepts response with "An error has occurred"

    Hello,
    <p>
    I am using BEA 8.1 SP6 on Solaris. I also have my portlets running over WSRP (both consumer and producer are teh same BEA version). I have an odd behavior which hopefully someone can explain.
    <p>
    Scenario: I do an AJAX call to a servlet which then makes a web service call to another server. The actual web service call is embedded within a try/catch block.
    <p>
    If the web service is not running, for example, my catch block catches a ConnectionException error.
    <p>
    In the situation I have run into, however, the problem is that my web service call goes out over the network and it will eventually timeout. I know it will timeout because my catch block debug tells me that I get a connection timeout. My client never gets that information, however, because sometime during that process BEA has intercepted the response object and sends back the following HTML response:
    <p>
    -----------------------<br>
    <\!-- Generated by Weblogic Workshop -->
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC"-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">
    <html="en">
    <head>
    <title>Error</title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <p>
    An error has occurred:
    </p>
    <blockquote>
    <span></span>
    </blockquote>
    </body></html>
    <\!-- Some browsers will not display this page unless the response status code is 200 -->
    <br>---------------------------<p>
    Again, my server is still processing the web service call and will eventually catch a timeout error but that info does not get back to the client because BEA has hijacked the response.
    <p>
    Does anyone know why or how this is happening?
    <p>
    Thanks - Peter Len

    I believe I have found the issue.
    Our portlets are being accessed over WSRP. Both consumer and producer portals are BEA 8.1 SP6. The problem was that the HTTPS call back to the producer timed out on the consumer so it was the consumer portal that hijacked the response to the producer request.
    In the consumer's WEB-INF/wsrp-producer-registry.xml file, there is the element "connection-timeout-msecs". The default is 60000 ms. When I switched that to a larger time (say 999999 ms), I did not see the problem.

  • Update of 7.0.3 on iPhone 4 fails with an error has occurred

    I am trying to update my iPhone 4 to 7.0.3. But the installation quits with an error message that is not indicating the nature of the problem. The same happened with 7.0.2 already. Where can I find more details what exactly went wrong and what I can do to fix?

    Make sure there's enough free storage space.
    Tap Settings > General > About > Available
    The 7.0.3 update is approximately 92MB's.
    If there's plenty of storage space, try a reset.
    Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
    Then try updating again.

  • Downloads keeps failing with "An Error has Occurred"

    Happy New Year All
    New to the Apple Mac World having switched from Windows.  I've just bought a new Macbook Pro and when I go into the App store to purchase, the installations seem to be very temperamental.
    I've been to install twitter, along with updating iWorks - with Numbers and Pages failing to install/update at the beginning.
    I was finally managed to install pages, but uninstalling and then installing.
    With numbers, it did install but kept saying I needed to update, so I did the same and uninstalled but now it just keeps telling me and error occurred please try again in the purchases page, but same problems occurs.  Each time I try  installing again, I notice that the download is always pulling a previous download from somewhere (cache??)  and seems to always fail at the last bit.
    Does anyone know how I can fix this problem?  Ordered Mac Online and slight peeved that its not working... which is not what I would associate to Apple.

  • 10.3 OS Upgrade error. An error has occurred while downloading software for your device. Please verify your internet connection or try again later

    HELP ! HELP ! HELP ! "An error has occurred while downloading software for your device. Please verify your internet connection or try again later, if the problem persists." appears while attempting to upgrade or install BlackBerry Device Software. upgrading my Z10 OS to 10.3 on both (link & web). but facing same problem again and again. plz help. internet speed is 1mbps and working fine.

    I suggest you try the very clean and very forceful AutoLoader method:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-10-OS-Device-Software/Upgrading-OS10-devices-using...
    Beware that it is completely destructive...the device will be "like new"...no data, no apps, no accounts, etc. Be sure you take a full backup first, as well as make full manual documentation of all apps, accounts, configurations, etc. Sometimes a restore reintroduces the very corruption one is trying to eliminate, and manual reconfiguration is necessary.
    You can also use this to fall back to a prior OS if you desire...you can install any OS level for which you can find an AutoLoader. (Hint...search over on the CB site!)
    Good luck and let us know!

  • "The iPod could not be restored.An unknown error has occurred (1418)" Help!

    Hope someone can please help me.
    iTunes is asking me to restore my iPod, but an error occurs each time. This is the chain of events.
    1) I connected my iPod to iTunes and it asked if I wanted to update iPod software. I clicked yes.
    2) The iPod then changed from a colour screen to a monochrome screen.
    3) I then had problems with my USB Connection/Driver which I have now resolved.
    4) My iPod asked me to connect to iTunes and restore.
    5) I connect to iTunes and the following message appears
    "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes" So I clicked the restore button.
    6) The restore progresses until the following message appears
    "The iPod 'iPod' could not be restored. An unknown error has occurred. (1418).
    Basically I have read everything I could get my hands on to try and solve but nothing seems to work.
    Really looking forward to some solution.
    Cheers.
