Quickest place to look is in the label attached to the box the phone came in.
Not around anymore? Maybe the carrier you used the phone with can facilitate the information. Also, when under contract, the IMEI is listed in the paperwork. Apple, alas, is quite unhelpful with that information.

You can get your IMEI through iTunes, assuming you have backed up your iPhone using iTunes.
Open iTunes' preferences (under iTunes in the menu bar). Choose the "Devices" tab, and hover your cursor over the iPhone entry. The IMEI will appear.
I suspect knowing the IMEI will not do you a whole lot of good, but for what it's worth ... that's how to get it.

If it was ever backed up in iTunes on the PC then do this:
Start iTunes
Click on Edit, Preferences, Devices and hover the mouse over your device name. It will show serial number and IMEI.

Since I have done the update for IOS 7.1 my iphone 5S does not power on anylonger or more exactly remains stucked on the apple logo until there is battery...
I am in europe right now and for 10 more days and I do not have phone anylonger.....
I have tried to reset, restore.... connect on Itunes....
Once the IPhone 5S is powering on by pressing both general button and the power switch more than 5 sec,

Not sure why you need the serial # if you phone is locked.
Plug it into iTunes, and you can get the serial #, and also unlock your phone.
