I bought the ipad air to be used for marine navigation and installed both garmin and inavx charts. Currently none of the charts including apple maps can identify my current location. The error message says to enable location services and disable airport which I have done, but none of these applications work.

iLife '09 is not available as a download - it is only available as a purchase
iLife '11 is available as a DVD purchase and the compoments of it are available from the App Store (iPhoto '11 (version 9.1.5), etc)
Exactly what did you do? And exactly what does the error message say?
On the surface it appears that you are attemptying to open a new library with an older version (iPhoto '09 can not open an iPhoto '11 library for example)

I am having problems with Safari --- running slowly at times but shutting down unexpectedly at other times and displaying the error message saying something about the sonic foundry plug-in. I have the exact same issue. I can print one document and then I get the error mentionned above ("adobe creation cannot continue because acrobat is not activated"). Then I need to reboot in order to be able to print a new document.

If your profile is correct you are using 10.6.8 Snow Leopard. The latest iTunes version for that OS is 11.3.1 If your profile is wrong and you have 10.9.5 Mavericks, then the iTunes version is 11.4. You cannot use Mavericks versions on Snow Leopard.

Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
