Wow, I'm very sorry to hear that you faced this traumatic experience. Unfortunately the Find My iPhone app has to be turned on and activated before the device is stolen.
You should change any and all passwords that you use on your iPhone immediately.
Did you have a passcode lock on your iPhone that required a 4 digit number before the phone could be unlocked? That might prevent some of your data from being stolen or used.
I presume that you contacted the police.

i am from Turkey. on 8th january 2015 i have ordered 2 iPhone 6 from the apple store online. and make shipped them to my friend who was living in US. few days ago she returned to Turkey and give me the phones. but in one of the boxes the iPhone 6 was different than the one i ordered. both iPhones that i ordered were 64 GB. but i have received one 64 GB space gray and one 16 GB gold iPhone 6. now i don't understand how such a thing happens with a worldwide company like Apple. before i go and open a case in the court i want Apple to solve my problem as soon as possible and change my iPhone 6 with the one i have purchased throughout the Apple store in Turkey İstanbul. or if you would say that i have to ship it to the US than Apple must pay the shipping bill. or apple pay me back the difference between 64 gb and 16 gb which is 100 dollars. so i am waiting you to contact me as soon as possible about the solution of this stupid mistake. Sorry, but you are not addressing Apple here, we are all users in these forums, just like you.
If you buy an iPhone from another country, the warranty and service can only be handled in the country where it has been bought. Since Apple does not sip internationally, you'll have to bring the iPhone back in person or send it to someone who can do that for you in the USA.

If I play the sound and send messages they appear on my new phone, however. If I can't get my old phone back I want to make it impossible for the new user to operate it. I have erased all the data on the old phone to the best of my knowledge. I don't want to erase it as I'm scared all the data on my new phone will be erased.please help. I am in Indonesia.

But did you enable Find My iPhone in settings on your stolen phone before it was stolen? If you didn't, you can't track it or do anything else using Find My iPhone.

That's an indication that you are tracking your new phone, not your old one.

- If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.

Unfortunately if you did not set up 'Find My iPhone', there is no way to remotely track or wipe the device.

You can't. You can only turn it on in Settings on the device itself. You can't turn it on remotely.

Find My Phone would have had to be activated/turned on before your phone was lost/stolen.. There is no way to do that now, thus no way to use such to locate your phone. Had you done so, you would login to iCloud.com from any computer & see if you could locate your phone.

There is nothing you can do. That is the Activation Lock that Apple has implemented tout down on theft of their iPhones.
Most likely the iPhone is stolen.
It is totally worthless to you.
