HT4061 my screen went black but it still makes sounds?

my phone out of no where the screen went black yet I still hear text notifications

Hi there SofiVelez,
I would recommend taking a look at the troubleshooting steps found in the article below.
iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802
Display has no backlight or dark screen
Toggle the ringer switch to see if the unit vibrates. If it does, it could be that iPhone is getting power, but is not displaying any image.
Try turning iPhone off and then on again.
While connected to the iPhone charger, try to reset the iPhone.
If the low-battery screen appears, charge the iPhone.
Issue not resolved
My issue is still not resolved. What do I do next?

  • Screen went black, but it still vibrates and sound.

I dropped my iphone 4, it automatically went black and I thought it turned off, but I pressed the lock button and it sounded like I locked it, if I press the screen I can hear the sound of buttons when you enter your passcode and all. But the screen is black.
I tried holding both buttons to reset it, but wont work at all.

You display has been nudged out of place or broken. You need service on the phone.

  • Screen went black but still works

How do I fix iphone 4 screen went black-still works and already tried shutting it off

I fix a lot of phones and have only experienced this once with a customer. She told me that the screen went black but the phone still rang.I thought she was just doing something wrong or that maybe she dropped it and the LCD ribbon cable hopped off the board.By the time she got the phone to me the battery had completely died as she could not turn it off. After I received the phone I plugged it in and to my amazement it came alive after the usual 5 or so minutes it takes an iPhone to fire up after being dead.So if possible let it fully drain and then plug it in at the mains charger.Hope this helps.

  • IPods screen went black but assisted touch on screen still works?

IPods screen went black but assisted touch on screen still works?  What's would be wrong?? I have dropped it and the lower volume button went partly in side the IPod (thats why i had the assisted touch on) and its been working very slowly fore the last week or so. but other then that it was fine.

With the information given, If the screen is completely black even after the reset, it's sounds as a hardware issue
    Could be : The battery
                    The charger
                   The phone itself
You can narrow these down one by one preferably.
-If you have an extra battery, test it.
-Try another charging cable or another outlet
If neither of those affect it, you can also wipe the phone, but that's pretty much the last last step you should do since it erases everything.  Then restoring it. Time varies.
If you are still having trouble, contacting your carrier, the closest Apple Store, or the technical support line for Apple.

Reset the device by pressing and holding the home and power buttons for 15-20 seconds until the white Apple logo appears.

  • HT201210 My Iphone 4S screen went black but iTune is unable to finish recovery and software restore.

My Iphone 4S screen went black but the Iphone was still working. I was able to play music with the headset.
I went a head and put it in a safe mode to perform a recovery. iTune updated the software succesfully but is unable to finish recovery and software restore.
I went to the support page to see what suggestion apple has but I had done already what they asked (update software, unplug all other USBs, restart the computer, iTune and restore process).
Any suggestion what I can do?
    Thanks

Make an appointment at the genius bar. It's probably a hardware failure.

  • How do i fix my itouch. the screen is black but it still responds to touch

How do i fix my itouch. the screen is black but it still responds to touch

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

  • My screen went black but still rings

My screen is black but still rings. What do I do

    Hello Bradley,
I would be concerned too if my iPhone screen remained dark when the phone was on.  I recommend the following steps for the issue you described:
Display has no backlight or dark screen
Toggle the ringer switch to see if the unit vibrates. If it does, it could be that iPhone is getting power, but is not displaying any image.
Try turning iPhone off and then on again.
While connected to the iPhone charger, try to reset the iPhone.
If the low-battery screen appears, charge the iPhone.

  • Horizontal flickering, screen goes black -but apps still operational?

I've gone through 10+ pages of postings in the iBook G4 display forum, and I can't find any problems that are exactly like mine...
Yesterday, the screen suddenly started getting noisy horizontal lines and flickering. But the applications remained operational the whole time. I closed them out one by one, and eventually the screen went black. Even then, iTunes continued to play - but I had to reboot.
Now it's happened several times since then. The time from flicker to black is shortening. Generally rebooting is no problem, but a couple of times it took about 15 min. before it would restart.
It's also not continuous. Right now I've been on the computer for an hour without incident, but I feel like I'm pressing my luck.
Currently I'm traveling in Thailand, heading to India next. There is an authorized service provider here in Chiang Mai, but I'd like to have an idea of what I might be looking at before I go in. I have about five days before I leave the country.
I still have 1.5 years on my warranty, but being overseas and trying to get this repaired is going to suck...
I'm freelancing while here, and this problem threatens my ability to work.
Any ideas? Is this a display issue or something else?

    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I am having this same issue as well. The mac boots
fine, then the screen flickers and sometimes goes
grey. some times it comes up, sometimes it goes to a
grey screen. Most of the time I get the flickering
    lines across the screen.
    Help would be awesome!!
This morning I took the laptop to the authorized support center here in Chiang Mai, and within just a couple of hours they had an answer - a problem with the logic board. Good news - the replacement is covered by the warranty!
So you should take yours in ASAP -

  • Help! Dropped phone, screen is black but phone still works...

I dropped my iPhone 4S today and the screen went black (thankfully it didn't shatter), but the phone still works perfectly fine. I can still touch it and everything; unfortunately I obviously can't see what I'm doing because it's black. Another problem is that my lock button has been broken/jammed for a while, so I can't try to reset it with holding the home button and lock button, which I've heard could work.
Is there something I can do myself? Or should I just bring it to an Apple store? Even then, can they fix it or is my phone done for good?

  • My screen went black but if I shine a light on it I can see it? What do I do?

My screen went dark but I can barely see it if I shine a light on it. I tried to find my mouse on the screen but can't

If you have a VGA display and a correct display adapter, you should be able to see the computer's desktop and access it there.
The http://ifixit.com site has various repair guides and as a reference, you could look into the proper one for your model and build version of Mac to see what they say. Some users of their site contributed comments in a few of them.
    http://www.ifixit.com/Device/Mac_Laptop
Details are important, since the model number may represent many years of changes, and not tell exactly what one you have. And the serial number in your computer can be used to identify-by-serial number, information on the model you have, its configuration as shipped, year, etc.
    http://www.powerbookmedic.com/identify-mac-serial.php
Or try & find it at http://everymac.com database.
There are circuits, and cables that flex when the display lid is closed, plus another one that sits by the logic board that support display function, so one of these probably has failed. It would require an authorized repair or someone very handy and experienced in this design of portable computer repair. I doubt a casual user would be able to replace the correct parts; then without causing another kind of issue if they messed up some other parts that currently are not contributing to the symptom you noted.
Troubleshooting is something an expert can do. But you can use the computer with a second display so long as you have an adapter that will work with the kind and type of ports and plugs that are there. Other adapters exist that may not work, but can look very much like those what do.
    Good luck & happy computing!
