HT4061 What is error 2001

I dropped my iPhone in water yesterday night. I immediately turned it off and put it in rice for the rest of the night. This morning I tried turning it on and it told me to connect to itunes for a restore and update. When I tried, I got unknown error (2001). I was wondering what that was?

Error 2000-2009 (2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009, and so on)
If you experience this issue on a Mac, disconnect third-party devices, hubs, spare cables, displays, reset the SMC, and then try to restore. If you are using a Windows computer, remove all USB devices and spare cables other than your keyboard, mouse, and the device, restart the computer, and try to restore. If that does not resolve the issue, try the USB issue-resolution steps and articles listed for Error 1604 above. If the issue persists, it may be related to conflicting security software. If the errors persist on another computer and known-good USB cable, the device may need service.
Could also be that the water fried the phone....

    Hello cfrazerg,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information, take a look at:
Resolve specific iTunes update and restore errors
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3694#2000
    Check USB connections
If there’s an issue with the USB port, cable, dock, or hub, or if the device becomes disconnected during restore, try troubleshooting the USB connection, then troubleshooting your security software.
    Common errors: 13, 14, 1600-1629, 1643-1650, 2000-2009, 4000, 4005, 4013, 4014, 4016, “invalid response”, and being prompted to restore again after a restore completes.
To narrow down the issue, you can also change up your hardware:
    Use another USB cable.
Plug your cable into a different USB port on your computer.
Try a different dock connector (or no dock).
Add (or remove) a USB hub between your device and computer.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, with no routers, hubs, or switches.
If you see your error after changing your USB connections, continue to the next section to troubleshoot your hardware.
    Have a nice day,
    Mario

Water damage isn't covered by warranty, but you could always purchase a refurbished device from Apple.

Hi, to get your iPhone  4 back to normal, here're two ways for you.
    1.  Use Dr.Fone for iOS. The free trial version can fix iPhone screen of death. The free trial version can do that, you don't have to pay.
Just download and install this software on your computer and connect your iPhone 4 to computer with a USB cable. When it detects your iPhone 4 is abnormal, click Restart the device to get your iPhone 4 to be normal.
    2. Use iTunes to fix it.
Step 1. Make sure that the latest iTunes is installed on your computer.
Step 2. Plug into a USB cable to connect your iPhone4 to computer.
Step 3. Press and hold the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button at the same time for about 10s.
Step 4. 10 seconds later, release the sleep/wake button. But continue to hold the home button until a message comes out, saying "iTunes has discovered an iPhone 4 in recovery mode, you must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes".
Step 5. Click your iPhone 4 in the left sidebar to show the device control panel on the right. Then, click Summary.
Step 6. Go to Backups section and click Restore Backup.... In the drop-down list, choose a backup file and restore to your iPhone 4

    - If the backup has a password (called encrypted backup) then you either have to remember password or correctly guess the passcode or set up the iPod as new.

  • Cannot restore iPhone 5, iOS 6.1.4, error 2001 and 2006

My iPhone 5 (AT&T, purchased on March 2013) suddenly went blank - without being dropped down, or *drowned* in water/ liquid - then a blinking (Apple) logo ...
Following Internet forums, I kept the "Home" button pressed a while, the sign of an USB cable attemting to connect to iTunes appeared.
iTunes asked me to restore, I agreed, it downloaded the "iPhone5,1_6.1.4_10B350_Restore.ipsw", then extracted, then verifying with Apple for a while, then appeared the message that this iPhone cannot be restored, error 2001.
I retried, same result, sometime the error is 2006.
I retried with another MacBook Pro, then iMac, same error 2006 or 2001 !
Strange thing : when trying in iTunes in Windows 8 (via BootCamp on those same iMacs, MacBook Pro), the error changed to error 21 !!!
I'd tried in several other ways :
    01. DFU (pressing both "Home" and "Power" buttons ... ...),
    02. turn off Intego/ Sophos/ ClamXav,
    03. delete that .ipsw file to download a new one,
    04. remove the iPhoneUpdater.log files, pretending to cheat the system
    05. confirm via System Information that I am plugging the iPhone only to one of the USB Hi-Speed Buses (thinking error 2001 & 2006 relates to USB ports)
... the *iFool* beauty keeps sleeping like ... a brick !
Any help would be highly appreciated. Many thanks in advance.
    BAKZOO.

Hey guys, i have the same issue.
Yesterday my iphone lost network, i turned it off, and wanted to turn on, but iphone didn't react.
Once i plugged charging cable in, apple logo appeared, then screen went black, then apple logo appeared once again. So it seems like iphone goes into reboot after apple logo appears.
I connected iphone to macbook pro while holding home button, itunes showed me iphone 5 in recovery mode, then iOS was downloaded, but recovery didn't even started. Every time it shows me 2001 error. Sometimes recovery fails with 2006 error. I tried to change USB port, tried another original USB cable, tried another macbook pro, both are updated to OS X 10.8.4, iTunes 11.0.4(4), but the same 2001 error comes up over and over again.
I did everything that official support advises on this page http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694?viewlocale=ru_RU&locale=ru_RU#error2001, but nothing really helps
Any ideas on what might help? There's no Apple stores here in Uktraine so i can not return my iphone and get a new one

  • My iPhone is stuck in recovery mode, I can't restore/update my device. I keep getting error 2001. I've tried basically every trouble shooting step out there. Any suggestions?

It died while i was at work and when i went to plug it into my car charger all i saw was the apple logo coming and going. so when i got home i put it in recovery mode and tried to restore and I got Error 2001. • CIMC on C210 server throws Error 2001: Service not available message

I am trying to configure vmware on a brand new C210 server for the first time and the directions say to access the CIMC and load the vmware media. Sounds easy enough except every time I go to the CIMC webpage I recieve an " error 2001: Service not available"  message on every page I go to and none of the server info fields are populated. If I try to make any changes and save my settings the same message pops up and no changes are saved. Almost like the CIMC doesn't recognize the server or hardware. I ran the host update utility just now and upgraded the firmware for everything to the latest version but still no progress. Anyone have this happen or know how I can fix this?
    Thanks in advance!
    Jess

I got it working on one of the servers, and havent tried the same solutions on any other server.
What i did was manually adding an IP adress to the management IP, then save the config before rebooting. After rebooting i put it back to get IP from DHCP, and saved the config. After a secound reboot i was able to use the mangement interface without the 2001 error.
I'm not sure if it will work on the rest of the servers, but it's worth a try

  • Help, iTunes error 2001, iPhone stuck on Apple logo!

HELP!!!!!!! THIS IS DRIVING ME INSANE.
Okay, so recently I accidentally dropped my phone in the toilet (it was an accident, slipped out of my butt pocket as I was pulling my jeans down) and then did the rice trick and whatnot. After two days, I tried to turn it on again and it wouldn't work. Then, i plugged it into the recharger and MIRACLE OF MIRACLES the apple logo flashed! Then nothing more happened, it kept flashing on and off, and wouldn't respond to any buttons. So then I connected it to my macbook, and iTunes popped up saying that it'd detected an iPhone in recovery mode. however, to restore it I would have to download the newest iPhone software but I didn't have the ability to do that just yet so I unconnected it.
Now today i was finally able to download the software, but everytime I connected my iphone to mac itunes never picked it up. Eventually, following the advice of everyone on the internet, I 'put it into DFU mode' or something, (im not sure what I did, once I got a black screen that was still detected by itunes, and every other time i've got the itunes logo and a charger symbol).
Then i got really excited, followed all the onscreen prompts, until it finally said waiting for iPhone and then ERROR 2001 APPEARS! Further more, the iPhone isn't even called what I called it, but called iPhone, 'iPhone'. I've tried restarting everything, trying different ports, but nothings working, every time I just get to error 2001!
So i would really appreciate it if someone could help me! I don't care about losing files or anything, i just want it functional again.

Hi there, I had a very similar problem to yours. I ended up getting my iPhone 3GS quite wet. On top of that, some of my casing is broken (near the power button), so a lot of water got inside.
At first, there were a lot of changes to the screen, and eventually the phone simply died. It just wouldn't turn on. And then all of a sudden, the same day, it randomly switched on, and i could hear some 'sizzling' sound inside. Following this, it just kept rebooting.
At this point, I unscrewed the screws at the bottom and opened up the phone (but didn't disconnect anything). Instead of using the rice trick/silica gel etc, I just placed a fan facing pointing at the inside, and let it sizzle away, and hoped that the heat from the sizzling battery and the air from the fan would dry it soon.
It did dry - soon the sizzling stopped, and the phone just kept rebooting. The battery eventually died by the next day. So I put it on charge, and it eventually switched on, in recovery mode (USB picture and iTunes symbol).
The next thing I noticed was that the battery held almost no charge. As soon as I disconnected it, the phone would die, immediately. Same thing if you connect it to the computer. On top of that, my Mac did not recognise the iPhone at all.
Next, I cleaned out the dock with the sharp end of a safety pin and loads of fluff came out. And after re-connecting it a few times, iTunes recognised it. So I tried to restore it, but a few various errors came up, and eventually, error 2001 kept coming up. Which apparently means there is something wrong with the USB or dock. (My USB is fine, the phone dock is messed up).
So next I tried to force the phone out of recovery mode. Pressing the buttons does nothing. No program works, except RecBoot for Mac. But even on that, as soon as the phone restarted, it died immediately and went back to recovery mode.
So I took it off the computer and let the battery die again, and then charged for another 24 hours.
Now at this stage, the phone seems to hold a bit of charge for a while. And iTunes is randomly recognising the phone. And it lets me restore it. And it even lets me restore the iTunes backup!! But after it has everything restored, the phone reboots one more time and iTunes says not to disconnect it... And now it's back in recovery mode.
I'm going to keep on trying. I think it's partially down to luck and I would recommend you do the same. I'll post an update here if it works.

  • Facebook V 3.3.0.11 newsfeed only loads when Wi-Fi connection active - get error 2001 when using cellular connection

There are a number of very recent posts regarding a Facebook error "Facebook returned an unknown error 2001" when trying to dispaly or refresh the news feed.
For about the past 18 hours I have been experiencing the same issue; other Facebook functions (view own profile, view friends list, view photos, ...) work fine.
What I have noticed, though, is that FB functions as expected (i.e. news feed refreshes normally) when using a Wi-Fi connection. As soon as I disconnect from Wi-Fi and connect via a mobile connection, the problem returns.
My wife's identical phone has also been experincing this problem since yesterday.
Both phones are Blackberry 9700 Bold, with OS 6.0 bundle1879.
My location is Cape Town, South Africa.

When you get to a wifi location it should work. Hopefully it will be fixed soon.

  • Error 2001 when restoring

trying to restore iphone 3. itunes is giving 'unknown error (2001)'.

This error means that iTunes cannot maintain a USB connection with the phone. It can be a bad cable, dirt in the connector, or using a hub rather than a direct connection to a USB port on the computer. Try disconnecting all USB devices except keyboard and mouse, and use a direct port, on the back of the computer if it has connections on both front and back.
If this does not resolve the problem tell us what kind of computer and operating system you have.
