I am unable to copy files from my macbook pro to my external hard disk.
I am unable to copy files from my macbook pro to my external hard disk. I tried to copy a movie 800mb in size to my EDD and it shows the loading box and it says zero kb loaded out of 800mb and sometimes it loads a a few kb of the file, then after a while it ejects my hard disk and gives a message saying you should have ejected it properly. and it sometimes gives this message
"The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “....” can’t be read or written.
(Error code -36)".
This happens with a range of files if they are more than a few mb in size, so I am pretty sure its not the file problem. It also occurs sometimes when i try to copy from my EDD to my mac.
I have tried everything. I formatted my EDD to MS-DOS (FAT) format because i need to use it with mac and windows. I tried resetting The SMC and the PRAM and NVRAM. I tried verify and disk repair on disk utility. But the same thing happens over again and it is really frustrating. The problem doesnt happen with my PC.
My EDD is an Apollo 320GB hard drive from Imation.
Also are there any particular EDD brands that may not have this issue with MACs and can be used on mac and PC?
Thanks in advance!Hey guys,
So this is follow up from my debarkle with the EDD. I found out my problem with copying files from Mac to EDD and vice versa was a result of a not so good EDD ( i had an apollo hard drive from imation) that was not very compatible with macs. So i did my research and found out that the best hard drives were Western Digital and Seagate. I bought the newest western digital EDD 1TB and formated it to FAT32 and guess what...no problems so far. The only problem is that FAT32 format doesn't copy files larger than about 4 gigs so i couldnt copy a movie from my brothers computer onto my EDD that was 1080p. You could probably resolve that by partitioning a small part of your hard drive in ExFAT? but yeah, hopefully that helped guys.

Unable to Copy File From Terminal Server to Client Share
Hi
For years client have been able to copy files from our Windows 2003 Terminal Server to their local workstation using:
copy myfile \\tsclient\mydrive\myfolder
However we upgraded to Windows 2012 Server R2 and now Windows 7 Pro clients cannot copy files. The copy function creates the file name in their local folder but no content is sent after maybe 20 minutes or so the copy function times out and they get an
error message saying that the application was unable to write to the file. I have tried this function with my Windows 8.1 workstation and the file copies properly and it works fine for older Windows XP clients. Does anyone know why Windows 7 clients
are experiencing this issue.
Thanks
SimonHi Simon,
Initially please use latest RDP version 8.1 for windows 7 and check result.
What’s the file size which you are copying?
Does this happens for all users and on all computers?
You can try below method might resolve your case.
1. Login to remote computer using Remote Desktop (RDP).
2. Open Task Manager in the remote machine
3. Click the "Process" tab
4. Locate a program called "rdpclip.exe"
5. Right click and select "End process" to kill this program
6. Click on "File" menu in the task manager and select "New Task (Run)"
7. Type rdpclip.exe and press the button to start the process.
By killing existing instance of the rdpclip.exe and restarting the program, you can get your copy paste work again in your remote desktop.
Hope it helps!
Thanks.

Unable to copy file from local drive to external drive
I'm attempting to copy a 7gb file from my local drive on my iMac to an external firewire drive. Whenever I try to do this I get the following message: Sorry, the operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occurred.
I've rebooted, checked permissions on local and external drive. I'm the only person that uses this iMac. It only has one profile on it. Any suggestions?Hello Sikwidityo
If that External HD is formatted MS-DOS FAT32, then there is a 4GB file size limit that the iMac's can write to it.
See > http://www.macworld.com/article/51972/2006/07/ww_drives.html
In order to copy large files to it you from your Intel iMac's, you will need to set the Partition Map Scheme to GUID Partition Table and Format it Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
See > http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/partitioningtiger.html
Keep in mind that repartitioning and reformatting will erase the current data on the External drive. So if you do, you'll need to copy it's contents to one of your iMac's and then back when your done.

Unable to copy files from mac to PC
Hi,
I have a mac (osx 10.6.3) and a PC (Windows Vista) connected to my local home network. On the PC there are some shared folders. I can connect to the PC using the "connect to server" dialog and I can get all those PC folders mounted in my desktop (apparently in read/write mode). Dragging files from the PC to my mac works nicely but, surprisingly, there is no way to drag files from my mac to the pc.
When I drag a file from my mac to PC I'm always getting a dialog asking me to introduce my password to "allow Finder to make changes". I think it makes no sense because Finder should make no changes at all to copy a file to the PC and, on the other hand, I've read/write permissions on those files. After typing my password I get a second dialog: "One or more items can’t be copied to “Movies” because you don’t have permission to read them. Do you want to copy the items you are allowed to read?". Again, it makes no sense because I do have read/write permissions on those files. Unfortunately, any file is transferred after clicking "continue". This behavior is independent of file size, file type and permissions. No way to get any file transferred to the PC. What I'm doing wrong?
Thanks in advance for your help.Hi, paullopez.
Thanks for your answer. Unfortunately, in my previous post, I forgot to comment that I had macFuse and ntfs-3g already installed in my mac. I wonder if the problem is related to the osx implementation of SAMBA. Or, alternatively, ntfs-3g may be not able to work with samba mounted volumes? I have very little experience in sharing files via SAMBA so any help is welcomed. -

SimonHi Simon,
The copy command should also work on the Windows 7 clients. Please provide the detailed error message when run the command on the Windows 7 clients.
You could also use robocopy command to achieve this.

Windows Server 2012 R2 RDS: RDS Users are unable to delete files from their desktop
Hello,
We are working with Windows Server 2012 R2 RDS. We also implemented User Profile Disks. This is all working fine without problems. The only issue I have is that normal users are unable to delete files from their desktop. They are getting a message:
you'll need administrator permission to delete this file, with the prompt for administrator access.
They can edit, copy, rename, cut and paste files. But they cannot delete a file from their desktop.
I checked the security permissions of the files on the desktop (for example a normal self-created PDF file) and the users are owner and have "Full Control" over the files.
I checked the file permissions and took a look under "Advanced", selecting the specific domain user and checked the "Advanced Permissions" and the user has the "Delete" option checked. So he should be able to delete the
file.
I am guessing this is UPD related issue, or something in GPO. But I already unlinked the GPO objects, that I felt could be the source of this problem, but without results.
Could someone give me a hint on where to look? It's kinda annoying to users, that they can't delete their own files.Hello Bria,
What you should check first, is the NTFS permissions on the User Profile Disk to begin with. See if the user has full control over the items that are in the UPD.
Also check the GPO's that are enabled for the user and computer account. You can check that by running: gpresult /h <path>\gpresult.html
There are two GPO settings that could prevent the user from deleting his/her own items:
User
Configuration\\Policies\\Administrative Templates\\Windows Components\\Windows Explorer\
Hide these specified drives in My Computer
Prevent access to specified drives in My
Computer
There might be other GPO settings, that block deleting items on the UPD, but can't think of any out of my head.
I can only think NTFS and GPO settings that might prevent the user from deleting items. In my case it was a GPO setting, that I didn't suspect. -
How to copy file from server to another machine in network through JSP
Hello!
any body can solve my problem.
i m working in JSP. i want to copy a file from server on which JSP engine is running to another computer in the same network.
i used Java File Object to copy file from one machine to another in network. and its working fine on network. but the problem is when i used the same code in web page there is exception which is Access is Denied. what i should do now.
i m writing the code i m using in my JSP page
String fileToCopy = "C:/oracle/Apache/Apache/htdocs/FAO/FAO_MiddleFrame.jsp";
String destinationDir = "\\\\af09\\c";
File source = new File(fileToCopy);
String fileName1 = source.getName();
if ((!destinationDir.endsWith("\\")) && (!destinationDir.endsWith("/"))) {
destinationDir = destinationDir + "\\";
File destination = new File(destinationDir + fileName1);
if (!destination.exists()) {
if (!destination.createNewFile()) {
//throw new IOException("Unable to create file. May be you don't have permissions.");
byte[] buffer = new byte[1024];
FileInputStream in = new FileInputStream(source);
FileOutputStream outStream = new FileOutputStream(destination);
int bytesRead = 0;
while ((bytesRead = in.read(buffer)) != -1) {
outStream.write(buffer, 0, bytesRead);
out.println("File copied successfully ....");
plz reply me as soon as possible.
i will be very thankful
SaadThats the way it works. Cause servlet contaner doesnot allow other machines in the network to access other than machine which it came from as in case of applets. What you can do is if the other machine is also based on webserver or app server .. you can upload the file as it gets to that page do the process.
I would like to hear more on my comments..
Suggestions ??

Safely copying files from Target Disk Mode to External USB. Advice?
Just got a new iMac and transferred my system and important files to it from my old iMac. However, a partition on my old iMac has files I want to move to my new iMac so they can be included in Time Machine backups while others I want to move to another external hard drive since I have physical copies of most of those files elsewhere.
I can connect my old iMac to the new via Target Disk mode and copy the critical files from Mac-to-Mac easily and quickly enough. What I want to know is if I’m safe to copy the other files from the TDM-connected iMac to a USB drive.
I’ve read that having other devices connected to your Mac while another Mac is connected via TDM can result in corrupted files. Is this true? Is it unsafe to copy files from a TDM Mac to an external USB drive?
If it is safe, is it best to connect the USB drive to the new Mac or to the old one while it’s in TDM? There’s a lot of data so I’m wondering about transfer times. One method would see files going over Firewire through the new iMac to a USB drive, while the other would go from TDM-connected Mac directly to a USB drive connected to its own USB port. That is:
TDM iMac > New iMac > USB Drive connected to New iMac
or
TDM iMac > USB Drive connected to TDM iMac
I have limited space on my internal drive and I also don’t want to copy-hop from TDM iMac to New iMac then copy from New iMac to USB drive. I'd like to go directly from old drive to external USB drive if it's safe.
So I’m looking for advice on the best way to connect devices in order to cut down on copying time and number of copies, and to do it safely without corrupting data. Any advice is appreciated!I've used Migration Assistant already to move all of my immediately necessary data and settings over. This other data was on a separate partition and I'm unable to copy all of the data over to my new drive due to lack of space.
Things are complicated by the fact that I need to change some of my externals over to Time Machine ready backups. Previously I was using 1 TB and a 2 TB drive for TM and another 2 TB drive for general backups/archiving. Now I need to juggle things around so that both 2 TB drives are for TM and the 1 TB is used for archiving.
An important point I should have mentioned is that I can't use my old iMac normally due to a GPU problem that seizes the system up. This is the reason I can't just copy stuff directly from old iMac to external USBs.
I'm interested to know if what I described above is safe and if there are any time savings or benefits for copying through my new iMac or connecting the externals directly to the old iMac in TDM. -
Unable to copy file using Zen 4 Console One
Hi,
I get the following error message:
'Could not configure workstation for application [SPSS Activator license
update.spss 14.Testing.PSM Applications.Applications.Resources.CF] (id=2).
Problem: Unable to copy file
\\MAINCF5G\apps\appwinxp\SPSS14\licenseupdate.bat. (D018)'
I click OK.
So I am trying to copy a single file named licenseupdate.bat from the server
\\MAINCF5G\apps\appwinxp
to the local C: drive to directory C:\Program Files\SPSS 14.
The directory already exists on the PC.
Under Distribution Options: Application Files, I have set Copy if Newer.
Under Run Options Environment, I have set Run as Unsecure System User (as
the user trying to install does not have Admin rights to workstation).
Changing to Run As Normal doesn't work either.
Any idea what the problem is?
Thanks,

Copying Files From a Remote Machine through "rcp" command not working.
Hi All,
I'm a new comer to this famous forum. I was trying to go through the PDF "Solaris Advanced User's Guide" .So in chapter 9-"Using the network" i came across "Copying Files From a Remote Machine". And the syntax was "rcp machinename:source destination" . And i got another note. It is like
"The rcp command enables you to copy files from one machine to another. This command uses the remote machine's /etc/hosts.equiv and /etc/passwd files to determine whether you have unchallenged access privileges. The syntax for rcp is similar to the command syntax for cp.".
But i maintained remote machine's IP address in my system's /etc/hosts file. But still i am unable to do the rcp from remote system to my system or vice versa.
Always i am getting error message " **Connection refused**".
Therefore please some one guide me how to perform the " Copying Files From a Remote Machine" through rcp command.
Reghards
KartikHi
The inconvenience of using scp is that you have to type the password every time you stablish a connection. You can work around this, adding a key into the remote hosts_allow file. This implies in more maintenance.
From the rcp man page:
+rcp does not prompt for passwords. It either uses Kerberos authentication which is enabled through command-line options or your current local user name must exist on hostname and allow remote command execution by rsh(1).+
From the rsh man page:
+ If you omit command, instead of executing a single command, rsh logs you in on the remote host using rlogin(1).+
By default, rlogin is disabled on Solaris 10
[SunOS 5.10/bash] root@wgtsinf01:/store/sun/operating-systems
# svcs -a|grep -i rlog
disabled May_11 svc:/network/login:rloginSo, to use rcp you have to enable the rlogin service and set up all the configuration files. Particularly, as already suggested, I too suggest you to use scp. :)
Cheers

Error-36 and Error-42 when copying files from SD card
Hello!
I recently switched from a PC user to a mac user! Everything is great, but ever since I got the computer (refurbished 15in macbook pro) ive had problems with copying files from my SD card to my computer!! It so frustrating! Ive tried everything! I even called apple support, and after 30 minutes of calling came to no solution! I keep getting error-36 error-43 and sometimes error-8058 !!! I tried formatting with no success, because my computer cant read the disk! It is a PNY professtional 32gb sd card. Im not sure if this problem is happening due to the fact that I previousley used this same SD on my PC, but im going to return this computer if it doesnt fix! Ive also tried doing to terminal commands but it doesn't work! Please help!!
- from a distressed youtuberI'm having similar problems and I'm using a 1Tb HDD ( USB connection) which has 3 partitions. I have discovered that after some time (not clear what triggers it) I start being unable to use one partition for backups. When I checked further I discovered that I cannot write any file no matter what size to it. The problem has normally disappeared for a while when I restart my computer. I've done disk verifies and things are fine. The other two partitions are Ok ... I use one for TimeMachine and the other for SuperDuper. This partition is primarily used for ChronoSync backups so I suspect that the problem is related to how ChronoSync backs up but I have yet to convince their tech support of that.

After downloading ios5 to my ipad2, i am unable to copy/paste from URL. Cursor does not appear when I tap on the address and this only happens in landscape position with home button on the right. On other positions, portraits and landscape with button on the left, it works fine. And when it is working, the site will crashed after awhile. I usually copy the URL to skyfire videoQ to view flash video. Anyone with same issue? Anybody got a fix for this? Pls help.............

Can not copy files from locked CD
I have some old CDs from around 2002 that are locked and I am unable to copy files off the discs to my Mac and when I check permissions on the discs it will not let me change it from read only.
What do I do?
Thanks.CDs are read only always (assuming commercial CDs or burned CDRs).
So how it is you are trying to copy the files off of the CD? What happens when you do whatever you do? Does nothing happen or do you get an error message of some sort?

Unable to copy file D018 error on pre-install
Hi,
We're on NW6.5 SP5 with ZFD4.01 IR6. We tried to rollout a series of
lights-out pre-install apps to workstations (NT 4.0 SP6b) on Friday and had
98 out of 262 workstations fail with the following error:
"Unable to copy file [\\unc path\939.fil] [D018]"
Workstations do have RF rights to the unc path where the nal files are
stored (via rights to the container hosting the workstations), and the macro
Source_Path is right, all the usual troubleshooting 'D018' checks are ok.
I've checked the AXT file and the Directory Create command comes before the
File Copy. Weirdly, only some of the workstations failed, and all on the
same file, which goes to c:\program files\blah\blah\blah and is called
_alphapm.exe.
To ensure this ran out ok we temporarily lowered the workstation refresh
frequency to 1 min, and the nal ran to all machines in about 6 minutes.
What could be the cause of only some of the machines failing, and all on the
same file?
Thanks,
Steve LawHi,
I've been troubleshooting this issue and now have Zenworks debug logs, which
I've managed to capture for both a machine that succesfully installed a
pre-install nal and one that failed for the same urn of the same nal. I'm
hoping someone can explain what might be happening. Here's the crucial
portion of the failed nal from zapplib.log:

The log for the successful workstation is below. As per previous posts I
checked that the same Windows file and folder rights exist on both the
workstations, and the existing file that was to be overwritten
(C:\Lamda5\Dlls\CLIENTSTATEMENTS.DLL) was not set to read-only.
The "FindFirstFile Failed to find any file matching blah blah blah" message
suggests that the problem is related more to accessing the source file on
the server (4.fil) than in writing it to the workstation.
This was a test to 10 machines, the report shows that, chronologically, 2
workstations installed it fine and then the ensuing 8 failed. I can't think
of anything that would lock the 4.fil file - as these are reads they
shouldn't actually lock the file anyway. We run McAfee Netshield 4.63, but
it's set to scan inbound files, not outbound reads.
Any suggestions as to why it was able to read the file for one workstation
and not on another? I have had greater success when I've activated "spread
from start time" over a 15 minute period, but still had one failure out of
ten. A tool that logged all file locks would be useful but I can't find
anything.
Thanks,
Steve Law
