Guys I'm facing a problem related to App Store. I managed to update my system to Version 10.7.4 to try to sort out the issue but again I cannot update/buy any apps, OS X ML included.
The message is: "we could not complete your purchase: unknown error"
I tried erasing the cache of App Store, log off and in, restart the system...nothing!
Can Anybody help me, please? I'm a Mac user less than a year but I never had serious issues before.

  • The iPod "iPod" could not be restored because it is busy

My 20g ipod started giving me trouble a few weeks ago after I loaded some post-Christmas purchases. It wouldn't load the last few songs, and it was half-empty, so capacity wasn't an issue.
I next tried to restore the iPod, but my mac mini then seized up, and the restart hung, so I had to do a hard restart.
Upon restart, the iPod was obviously now corrupted, with only a half-completed restore, so I tried again.
This time, and every time since, I get the following error message: The iPod "iPod" could not be restored because it is busy
So, I next followed the 5 R's, to no avail.
Disk Utility gives me the error Disk Erase failed Disk Erase failed with the error: Input/Output error
I also tried security erase, and while it starts with the overwrite, it eventually kicks out of the process with another I/O error.
Today, I downloaded iTunes 7.6 with the hope that it would fix this issue, as it has been surfacing in discussions pretty commonly. I thought this was reasonable, because of some difficulties with iTunes after the release of the iPhone were solved upon the next release of iTunes.
Unfortunately, I am facing the exact same situation.
There is one additional step I was able to take by trial and error, and one further step I am considering.
When I originally searched this topic, I came upon a "diagnostic mode" fix that's supposed to be accessed only by the iPod nano.
Using this mode, I was able to run several tests, and ram checks out, and one of the two disk tests come back fine.
Since I don't know what the alphabet test results mean, this was about all I was able to gather.
I attemmpted to use the diagnostic mode reset, but the problem continued.
My final thought, aside from waiting for a further iTunes update, was to dig out a third-party disk utility I have here somewhere and see if that will erase the iPod.
    Any suggestions out there?

I was able to solve this by (warning, this will void your warranty) taking the iPod apart, very carefully. Being careful not to separate the cables inside, place a folded business card on the hard disk, and place the metal half back on.
Do a Google search if you don't believe me.
Oh, and for the gent from Apple that removed the post containing URL with pictures of this fix, I do NOT receive any cash, complensation, self esteem or other recompense or good feeling from posting this fix, or directing people to search for it.

  • The iPod 'iPod' could not be restored. An unknown error occured(9).

I got my iPTouch 16 GB on Oct.13 and on hooking to XP SP2 PC got it on the iTunes ver 7.4.3.1, was able to download music after charging. iTunes showed that a new software ver 1.1.1 for iPTouch was available(of150MB).Got it downloaded to iTunes but when it started to download to iPTouch, it failed and asked to do resotre. All this happened in just few hours of getting it.
Since then, even after reinstalling the iTunes, my iPTouch is not going beyond showing the icon of a plug and a CD.Every time iTune is able to detect the iPTouch saying that it has detected an iPod in recovery mode, you must restore it. And on doing so that error of 'The iPod 'iPod' could not be restored. An unknown error occured(9).' comes up and it again asks to restore.
Though every time iTunes is able to detect an iPTouch, my XP does not show it in 'my computer' as any hooked device or drive.
May I request Apple and other members on this forum to help me out. It is clearly a software problem.
    Many thanks in advance.
    Jetavya

Thanks to all members for sharing in. In my case finally, I got a brand new replacement from Apple through their Authorised Service Provider,A-1 Infotech, Mumbai. Since in India, Apple does not have a widespread presence, the service and support I got was amazing.
In my case though I never came to know whether the problem was of software or hardware, but the simultaneous step I had taken was to call the toll free number of Apple in India and got my problem registered. Since the iPod Touch was under warranty, I got it replaced without much hassels. I advise the same path for other users and if possible get the additional Apple Care Protection Plan for additional one more year.
Though I have yet to find out how to avail that Protection Plan in India.
    Best wishes,

  • IPhone 3GS - The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1013)

    Hey everyone,
First off, here are my specs:
iTunes Version: 10.4.1.10 running on Windows 7
iPhone 3GS running 4.3.5 (not jailbroken)
I'm going nuts with this issue with my iPhone 3GS. After messing around with my phone, I managed to put it into recovery mode, which was not intentional. So I thought I could just restore my iPhone and resync, but everytime I do so, the iPhone will reach 99% (according to the progress bar on the phone), and then pause for 2 minutes and then come back with this error:
The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1013)
So I've looked at the Apple support page and followed those steps but didn't work. I have searched forums, youtube instructional videos on how to fix this error, but nothing seemed to work. I know about the "hosts" file in C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc, but when I checked, there were no DNS entries for gs.apple.com. I've also tried restoring on different computers (including a Macbook), but the same issue occurs.
I have a feeling that because I'm using the latest version of iTunes, that it's causing this problem. I want to know if anyone can offer their help because again, it's driving me nuts!
    Thanks,
    Neocec

  • The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error has occured (3). How do I fix this?

I had a problem with my iPhone 5 connecting to my service provider (verizon) and also to the internet just minutes after I had used the internet to browse before work this morning.  I tried soft reset, hard reset, and connecting to my computer, but nothing worked to get it back to normal.  I decided to do a system wipe and restore it as well, but I get that error: "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error has occured (3)."  I googled that and searched for literally 7 hours without any luck.  Any and all help is appreciated.  Thanks!

This has just happened to me today. I have an iphone 5 on Verizon. I was using the internet on the device normally when it started. It couldn't access any online data even though it had 4 bars of service and LTE. I restarted it and it would be stuck "Searching for network". I tried wiping the phone with no luck. It gets stuck at around 99% of the firmware restore process and hangs there for about 25 minutes before itunes gives me the error described above. I tried the recover-mode restore with the same results.
I need a working phone ASAP, this is extremely frustrating!

  • HT201210 The Iphone"Iphone" could not be restore. An unkowned error occured (-1)

I just replace this Iphone 7 months ago. Now I lockout and cannot restored. This error message ocurred everytime "The Iphone "Iphone" could not be restored. An unknowned error occured (-1)". The vendor (M1 singaopre) said this is a hardware problem. This phone is "wasted" and wanted $350 to replace it. What a load of BS, to pay $350 to replace a replacement for damaged goods. Any good ideas ?

  • The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (-1).

I have been trying to update my iPhone's software for the past few weeks due to my current provider not being found. (A bar that says "Searching" is always at the top where my 3G should be.) Yet whenever I try directly from my iPhone, it always end with an error message. So, yesterday I tried updating directly from itunes and I let it download the new update and all that. However, after it finished trying to update my iPhone, it put my iPhone in a recovery mode and I've been trying to fix it eversince. I can not access my iPhone, all it has is an icon saying to connect to itunes. I've tried troubleshooting, checking my software, updating my computer etc. yet it still leaves me with this message: "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (-1)." I've looked on the apple site and I've made sure my security is up to date, my computer is up to date, my itunes is up to date and that I have restarted my computer. I am very irritated and I don't know what to do. I don't know what to do because my warranty is over with apple and I still have a few years on my contract. This problem has become relatively frequent with the replacement I've received from apple.
Please post all suggestions or ideas to help with my problem,
    Thank you for your time.

  • "the iphone "iphone "could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (6)"

After trying to download a few applications and being told I needed a more up to date operating system on the iPhone I decided to plug it into iTunes on my PC (running Vista) and update the operating system.
As the process was trying to do a restore the iPhone following error message appeared:
"the iphone "iphone "could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (6)"
Now the phone will not turn on it just shows the iTunes symbol, the USB cable with pointing to the iTunes symbol.
    I’ve tried:
    1. re-booting the PC (same error message when doing a restore)
    2. changing USB port (same error message when doing a restore)
    3. Uninstalling and re-installing iTunes (same error message when doing a restore)
    4. I tried to put the phone in recovery mode following some steps seen on another forum (holding the power and home button then releasing the power button after 10 seconds) but it does not work as expect the phone is seen instantly. Then the restore just says the same error message.
    Other info:
    • I bought my iphone just over a year ago so the warranty has just expired.
    • This is the first time I have plugged it into my PC since activating it and what’s more this PC is not the same one I activated it on (got a new PC).
    • It is a 3G phone.
    • I have not attempted Jailbreak or anything like that.
Any help would be greatly appreciate a my phone is effectively broken, I have nearly a year left on the contract and no warranty.

    Hi
I followed this guy's instructions and it worked:
    http://evsiphone.blogspot.com/2009/05/iphone-iphone-could-not-be-restored.html
I did disable the security (AVG and Zone Alarm) when I tried on my own PC. My wife's laptop which eventually got it working also uses AVG and Zone Alarm but on an XP O/S whereas my PC is Vista - maybe this is why.
    Cheers for you help.

  • The ipod "ipod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1602)

After trying to update ipod, during the phase where I had to back-up the ipod, an error message popped up (I can't remember what it said). Now, the ipod is just stuck on the "plugin to itunes" icon. Itunes and my computer can't recognize my ipod anymore. I have tried putting it into DFU mode and my computer detects my ipod and begins installing the drivers. On my first attempt, the drivers installation failed, so I reinstalled itunes and quicktime. Then after putting it into DFU mode again, it begins installing the drivers, but this time it was successful. Now I had the option to 'restore' my ipod so I did what I could. However, when I was installing it, 2 more drivers had to be installed and they were successful, however, I get this error message:
The ipod "ipod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1602)
Any help would be greatly appreciate. Thanks very much for your time.

Error 1600, 1601, 1602: Try the following steps to resolve this error:
Ensure proper USB isolation troubleshooting has been performed, and test with a known-good cable.
Follow the steps listed for Error 1604.
This error may be resolved by disabling, deactivating, or uninstalling third-party security, antivirus, and firewall software. See steps in this article for details on troubleshooting security software.
Error 1604: This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, uninstalling and reinstalling USB ports, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections, device not recognized properly, computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device). If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for error 1604.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while iPhone remains connected.
iPhone should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.

Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to performunauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. Uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer.
Edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from your hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect. For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you do not uninstall the unauthorized modification software prior to editing the hosts file, that software may automatically modify the hosts file again on restart.
Avoid using an older or modified .ipsw file. Try moving the current .ipsw file (see Advanced Steps > Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw) below for file locations), or try restoring in a new user to ensure that iTunes downloads a new .ipsw.
