HT4101 When I plug my USB adaptor into my iPad 2 and 3 I get error this accessory is not supported by iPad

I have a apple USB adaptor and I keep getting the error accessory not supported

On the iPads...
1: Make sure the Dock Connectors are Clean and Free of Lint.
2: Try a different Cable.
3: Try a Reset...
Reset  ( No Data will be Lost )
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons.
