HT4108 Apple AV to DVI

Apple digital av connector to hdmi cable to hdmi-dvi adapter to dvi input on a computer display does work. This article says it does not: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4108?viewlocale=en_US
Hdmi and dvi are inter-compatible.

Well, their statement
"Note that accessories that convert a VGA or HDMI signal to other video formats (DVI, Composite, Component) are not supported."
means they officially don't support them (they state this so that they don't need to answer questions related to these third-party converters). However, you can convert the signal with any external for example HDMI -> VGA converter and I assume composite / component converters would also work - after all, both HDMI and VGA signals are standard and converters able to operate on them will happily convert them.
I do it (HDMI -> VGA conversion from the Apple TV and the HDMI adapter for iDevices) a lot and it does work.

  • Can I use the Apple ADC to DVI adapter with a VGA monitor?

    Hey everybody,
I have a quick question. I work on computers fr friends and family as a hobby. I have an ADC monitor and need ot be able to hook up computers with a VGA port on them to it. Can I use the Apple ADC to DVI adapter along with an Apple DVI to VGA adapter to successfully connect VGA computers to my ADC display? I was assuming this would work and ordered both adapters but now I have made myself nervous about weather or not this will actually work. Has anybody out there successfully done this? Thanks for your help in advance everybody.

You can't run an ADC display with a VGA computer without a converter. Adapters won't do it.
a VGA to ADC converter will drive the ADC display directly

If you have the Apple DVI to ADC adapter

you could use it with a VGA to DVI converter
    <http://www.gefen.com/kvm/product.jsp?prod_id=1310>
It might be cheaper to get DVI graphics boards for the computers and use the Apple DVI to ADC adapter.

Your title says "Can I use the Apple ADC to DVI adapter with a VGA monitor?". If you want to connect a VGA monitor to a computer's ADC port you need the ADC to VGA adapter
<http://www.gefen.com/kvm/product.jsp?prod_id=1299> You can't use an ADC to DVI adapter followed by a DVI to VGA adapter, because the ADC to DVI adapter doesn't pass the analog video signals needed for VGA.

  • Can I use the Apple VGA to DVI adapter to connect a PC to a DVI monitor?

    Hi
Any idea of the Apple VGA to DVI adapter would work to connect a PC's VGA output to a DVI monitor?
Is it a simple pass through?  Or are there drivers needed.

That adapter is for connecting a VGA display to a computer's DVI-I port.  A DVI-I port has both digital and analog video pins.  The adapter passes just the analog video to a VGA connector.  It will not work in the reverse direction because a VGA computer does not provide digital video.
There are VGA to DVI converters that will connect a DVI display to a VGA computer.

  • Apple ADC to DVI Adapter -- Power Brick gets HOT

    Hello all,
I just purchased an Apple ADC to DVI adapter to connect my 23" Cinema Display to my new Mac Pro. It works perfectly, but I've noticed that the white, square power brick is generating quite a bit of heat. It feels sort of OK (within tolerance) at the edges but toward the middle it's noticeably hot. Not hot enough to burn my hands, or cook an egg, but definitely toasty warm. Is this normal? Or does it sound like I have a defective one?
    Alan

If by "on" you mean the adapter is connected to your display and plugged in to an AC outlet, and you have an image on your display coming from your computer, then it's not dead.

  • Apple MiniDisplayPort to DVI-D 2560x1600 Monitor Compatibility

    Hi all,
I just purchased a DoubleSight DS-305W 30" display only to learn it doesn't work with the Apple MiniDisplayPort to Dual DVI adapter. I had the flickering issues described in length here:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB571Z/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY
I thought it was the adapter firmware issue, so I drove 3 hours in the snow to the Apple store to get a replacement with the new firmware (1.0.3). After doing so, the issues persisted.
I am now wondering if anybody has experience with other 2560x1600 monitors and this adapter. I am considering buying a NEC LCD3090WQXi-BK -- has anybody tried this one? Thanks in advance.

Not that I have seen. My new WS monitor came with the vga cable and also a DVI cable. So I didn't have to buy anything extra to have DVI out. I could choose whichever one I wanted.

  • Apple ADC to DVI or mini-DVI or HDMI

Anyone know where you can get one of these in AUSTRALIA?
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/M8661B/B
Can't see it on the store.apple.com/au
for my new mac mini to drive my big old Cinema HD display
needs power to drive the monitor and USB

    Go here: http://www.dviator.com/us/DVIator.html
I am using the Dr BOTT DVIator to run an old school 17" Apple Cinema Display on my brand new 2010 Mac Mini through the HDMI port with the included HDMI to DVI adapter that was included with the Mac Mini. Works great functions perfectly. I purchased the DVIator (Pronounced DEE-VEE-ATOR)a few years ago when I sold my G5 tower with ADC and purchased a 2006 MacPro which has an nVidia Geforce 7300 GT the card is DVI. Worked on my Mac Pro too. Only thing is I am not sure if the Australian Power Grid is 220-240V, but you can check out the site and email them. The sight has links for Dutch, German, Swedish ect.. might get lucky.

  • Second Apple Display via DVI

I'm sure this must have been covered before so apologies if I'm going over old ground, but can't seem to find exactly the right answer to my question, so if anyone can help or point me in the right 'post direction'.....
I have a MacPro 4.1 with a Mini DisplayPort output plus a DVI output. I've been running a 24" Apple Display (via the MDP) and a standard monitor (via the DVI) quite happily.
Now want to upgrade to a second 24" Apple Display, but obviously can't connect to the DVI output due to the hardwired MDP from the monitor. Assumed that I could buy an adaptor (male DVI to female MDP) but can't seem to find anything......
There must be a way around this issue....?
    Thanks

  • Apple tv vs. dvi to hdmi

why would i buy an apple tv when i can just get a dvi to hdmi converter and use my tv as a monitor?

Because the Apple TV is a very specific product that does a very specific thing. Not everyone has a spare computer or wants their machine tethered to their TV to watch a movie.
You could use the same argument for a DVR or a DVD player - people just like stand alone devices and at $229 its much cheaper than buying a new comp.

  • Can Apple Cimima Display (DVI)  work with iPad 2 Mirroring?

    Hey all,
Just wondering I have a Apple 23 inch Cimima display lying around and was wondering if I could use it with my iPad 2 for miring? I have both VGA & HDMI adapters so is there a adapter for the VGA or HDMI adapter so that it will work with DVI??
    - Thanks Zach W

It will not work for mirroring. You need HDMI.

  • Old Apple ACD to DVI port

So I got a new card in my G5 dual and desided to put my old card in my old G5.
It was the 9600 Nvidea card, I installed it and it works great except for 1 problem. I have my old 20" Apple display with an ACD connection. This does not work with my DVI port on the G5.
So I need a cheap converter (or adapter) to fix this problem. All that I have seen are 100 euro's and thats to expensive for my taste.
    Anyone got any good suggestions.
    Thanks!!
    RRed

    Hi
Unfortunately I don't think there is a cheaper
solution as any converter or adapter must also
include a power supply/transformer to feed 25 volts
through the ADC cable in order to power the display.
The only adapters I'm aware of are those from Apple
and Dr. Bott, both of which are similarly priced.
If you buy new from Apple there is no cheaper solution. However, I just purchased a "Like New" (still in OEM clear plastic covering & box, etc) Apple DVI to ADC Adapter (Model: M8661LL/B) on eBay for $71US+$10US for shipping. And it works great with either of my MacBook Pros and my 20" Apple ADC display. You may want to check eBay...I've seen these going for $65US to $85US.

  • HT202157 Does apple tv support dvi

How can i use or hook up apple tv to an older tv with dvi/hcpd?

    Maybe.
You can buy an HDMI to DVI adapter. That will definitely take care of the video, but I'm not sure about the audio -  I don't think that DVI carries the audio signal. You might also need an optical "toslink" to RCA converter (or not, depending if your TV or stereo receiver has an optical audio input, in which case you just need the toslink cable)
A DVI-HDMI converter cable runs about $30 on the Apple store ( http://store.apple.com/us/product/H7044ZM/A ) but I don't see anything there to handle the audio. If you purchase through someplace like monoprice.com, an HDMI-DVI adapter (no cable) will only cost about $3, the audio converter will run about $12. Plus you might need the toslink cable (to run from the AppleTV to the converter or directly to your TV or stereo receiver), plus the RCA cables (from the converter to the TV), and of course the HDMI or DVI cable (depending on which end you plug the adapter). All together, probably less than $20.

  • Apple TV3 HDMI - DVI jack fine. TV has no DVI digital audio input.

I can buy a converter from HDMI to DVI for video, My TV does not have a digital audio input for the optical cable.  I may be able to plug into my sony surround sound amp in to the SA-DC CD in optical port and just play through the surround sound all the time?  Which would not give me sound if I used the TVs internal speakers?  Or there may be a converter from an optical audio to a R & L DVI Audio Input Jack?

Before you do just note that HDMI is the only supported connection so there will be no guarantee with any converter used. If it does work you will be unable to view protected content, unless your monitor specifies HDCP compliance. Functionality could also cease at any time.
The optical port is for connecting to a receiver, which you would need to do as DVI doesn't carry audio.

  • Apple ADC to DVI adapter

I need to run two DVI displays. My graphics card has a DVI output and the more rounded ADC output. Where can I get an adapter from ADC to DVI?

  • XBox HDMI output to Apple Cinema Display DVI input

I have an iogear DVI KVM, a mac pro and an xbox360 with HDMI output that I want to somehow convert to DVI so I can use my Cinema display to game on.
    Is this possible?
Out of curiosity I bought an HDMI to DVI gender changer to see if I could hook it up that way.
    No result.
I figure a conversion must be needed to make this work.
has anyone done this, If so, could you post your hardware setup or recommend a converter.
    thanks

The splitter sends the same signal to both displays, but they need different resolutions to work.

  • HT4108 Apple Composite AV Connector works with video

My (just purchased at Apple Store) Apple Composite AV connector cable works fine providing video out to my iPhone 4S but will not "mirror" my iPhone screen. It seems I am doing something wrong, any settings I should check on the phone or TV (or projector)?

    I think I have a similar problem.
I have an iPhone 4S, and used to play music playlists through the iPhone dock via a phono cable into my hi-fi. The dock is also connected to my TV via a composite cable.
I could put the iPhone into shuffle mode, and it would play all tracks through the hi-fi. Whenever the shuffle hit a music video in the playlist, the video used to also come out on the TV, which is kinda cool. But now, videos play on the iPhone screen instead of being piped to the TV.
If I want to play a music video, I can still do so by going into the Video app and playing it from there - it then goes out to the TV as it should.
Is there a solution to this, or is it a bug in iOS 7?  I'm not sure which version of iOS 7.0.x caused this to be broken.
