Why does an iPad (1st gen) using iOS 5.1 and the Photos app not send a single photo to a projector while a slideshow is sent photo by photo?

I am not 100% sure, but i believe the iPad only does mirroring when connecting with AppleTV. AV cables will output audio and video out the bottom of the iPad (30-pin connector) to a TV/monitor, but the iPad screen itself will only show video controls (play/pause, FF, RW, Done, Progression bar). If your cables say otherwise I am interested to know what brand they are and where you got them. If you are not getting any video at all the cables are probably not Apple approved and dont have the special chip in the 30-pin connector that allows for video transition.

Double click the home button, hold down an app icon, and press the red X. Do that for all the apps. You have to clear that, or the device's RAM (temporary memory) gets too full, and starts kicking you out of things.

I have an iPad 1st Generation and would like to use it when in Istanbul. How do I do this and will it cost anything?

I have an iPad 1st Generation Wi-Fi + 3G but my network is Verizon. I would just like to use it when in Istanbul to check and send email to the US and to Skype. Is this possible? Do I need to enable or disable anything to use it, or just turn it on? And, (finally!) is it totally free using a free wi-fi connection? Thanks much - the Verizon site is too confusing!

Thank you for replying, but I don't quite understand. I don't need mobile internet at all times. I am hoping to bring my iPad and only use it in the hotel lobby which has wifi. I am trying to determine if it can be used to recieve and send email while in Istanbul as well as get on Skype. Also - will how to do this be apparent to me when I turn it on - or do I need to set any preferences (etc). And will Verizon apply any charges? The same happened to my yesterday night when I was charging my iPhone 5 with iOS 6.1. My first impression was that could it be and auto update (to install iOS 6.1.2) however I'm still on 6.1.
It erased ALL my info and shows the initial configuration wizard......this is totally a mega ***!!!!!!

OK. I give up. Where does your iPad say "outside of the United States"? And does the iPad speak this to you? .... you hear a voice saying this? Or do you see this on the screen?????

IPad 3 sluggish in the photos app

I'm still getting to know my new iPad, but one thing I didn't expect to experience with a fresh install on a new iPad was the photos app struggling.
Generally it feels a bit sluggish and stalling in a few views, but really oddly it just practically grinds to a halt when trying to scroll through the event view.
Oddly it only does this near the top of the list of events, after a while it starts to behave normally. I'm guessing it's down to some files involved or perhaps just a general corruption somewhere. Still the event view should be fairly simplistic, much fewer items than the normal photos, and only showing a handful of thumbnails per event, if not mostly one thumbnail as they sit on top of each other.
I've made a video of the iPad 3 and iPad 2 working on the same photo set, about 5000 photos, roughly 10gig on the iPad 3.

Anyone else experience this, or get to the bottom of it... I will try to selectively remove items, be nice if I could force iTunes to re-shrink the files on my mac ready for syncing back on the pad in case something went wrong there.

You are not alone! I'm equally dissappointed with the overall responsiveness of the iPad3. I assume it's do to the current code (additional code implemented to add dictation to the iPad3, pixel resolution, etc.) Nonetheless, several applications on the iPad3 are slow to respond. For instance, OliveTree BibleReader lags when navigating to different books and hangs for about 2 seconds when you go from Vertical to Horizontal.
The facebook application has also been extremely unresponsive. I still have my iPad 2 and I'm seriously considering the option to return the iPad3 because of the "overall" user experience. I really enjoy the crispier text, but only a few applications have been updated to make use of the resolution and the sluggishness of the iPad3 outweighs the benefits of the resolution.

I also agree with Illaass and Demo, the first generation iPad will continue to serve very well. Operating system updates take place all the time and computing equipment keeps providing good service. Just does not provide all the latest bells-and-whisltes. My iMac G5 (2005) served very well until it started having hardware problems this year and had to be replaced. But the OS was three generations out of date, and that really was noot too much of an issue except for the latest applications that I could not use.
As long as your iPad physically works, go ahead and enjoy it. If you absolutely must have the latest apps, then replace it.

It could be that the battery charge indicator is showing 100 percent when you actually have almost no charge left. In case that is the problem, leave your iPad connected to its wall charger overnight, and see if that helps.
One other thing to try, is to reset (reboot) your iPad. Hold both the Home and Sleep buttons for several seconds until the Apple logo appears. Ignore the "Slide to power off" arrow. The iPad will restart after a couple of minutes. Resetting this way will not hurt anything, and sometimes solves mysterious problems.

My wife and I both have iPhone 5, I have iPad 1st gen and have set up iTunes w my iPad. I attached my wife's iPhoneto my PC (sorry) and tried to backup her phone to iCloud but it sync'd to my icloud. How do I set up her phone w iTunes using one PC?

I tried to backup my wife's iphone to the iCloud by hooking up to my PC. I checked the new iPhone box but it sync'd the phone to my accoount. How do I set up her iCloud account to backup her phone then sync w her iPad?

iTunes on your computer has nothing to do with an iCloud backup. If you wife's phone is backing up to your iCloud account it's because you are sharing the same account. Migrating her phone to a separate iCloud account will fix this.
If you want to mirate her iPad to a separate account, start by saving any photo stream photos that she wishes to keep on your iPad to her camera roll by opening the my photo stream album, tap Edit, then tap all the photos you want to save, tap Share and tap Save to Camera Roll.
Once this is done, go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account. (This will only delete the account her iPad, not from iCloud. your devices will not be effected by this.) When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data, be sure to select Keep On My iPad. Then sign back in with a separate Apple ID to create her new account and choose Merge to upload the data to her account. Note: you can continue to share the same ID for iTunes, it does not need to be the same as the ID used for iCloud.
