HT4113 My daughter forgot her passcode on her ipod.  How do I reset?

She hasn't used it since she got her iphone.   Would like to unlock it to give to her brother.

Restore, if iTunes will let you.  Everything except the password will be restored.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  Be forewarned that it takes a long time.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

  • HT1911 I forgot my passcode on my ipod, how do I reset it

my son put a passcode onto his ipod and forgot what it is.... I'm not computer savey and can't figure out how to reset it?

If he's forgotten the passcode to unlock the iPod then you will need to connect the iPod to the computer that it's normally synced to and you should then be able to reset the iPod and restore/re-sync the content to it (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212) - you may need to put the iPpd into recovery mode in order to be able to reset it : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
If you do it via a different computer then :
If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present.

    Only by restoring from backup
Connect the iOS device to your computer and restore via iTunes. Place the iPod in Recovery Mode if necessary to allow the restore.
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

Please help. My daughter forgot her passcode and her apple id so we reset the ipod as per instructed I got her a new apple id. and now she can not redownload any of her apps. It says that she needs a 4.3 and she only has a 4.2.1. We are trying to download the same apps she had before and it won't allow it. I can not seem to get the 4.3.  We are unable to download anything. Any help would be appreciated.
I was told it was a 3rd generation at purchase but when checking online it sometimes shows 3 and sometimes 2. I am totally confused and just want her to be able to use the device. Thanks and Blessings.

If you have iOS 4.2.1 or later on the iPod and there was version compatible with that version, then you should be able to get a compatible version by:
App Store: Downloading Older Versions of Apps on iOS - Apple Club
App Store: Install the latest compatible version of an app
You first have to download the non-compatible version on your computer. Then when you try to purchase the version on your iPod you will be offered a compatible version if one exists.
