HT4113 My Ipad has never been synced with a computer or via itunes on a computer only set up by my apple id, when it asked to connect to itunes i turned it off, when turning it on again it asked me for a passcode. I never set up a pascode, now I am locked

I have just bought a new IPAD. It has never been synced with a computer or via itunes on a computer, I tried to set it up using my APPLE ID and mobile number, it prompted me to connect to ITUNES. Unsure of what to do next, I closed it and took it to work. When I opened it one hour later it prompted me for the passcode. I never set up a passcode. I tried various combinations (my husband iphone, birthdates, kids passcodes etc) to see if somehow it had linked itself to their passcode. I called the shop I bought it from and was advised it would cost me 70 dollars to have it reset. I feel completely devastated that I haven't even been able to use the IPAD and I am already stuck. Can anyone offer some solid advice?

Place the iPod in recovery mode and then restore. For recovery mode:

  • "An iPhone has previously been synced with this computer ..."

    Hi
I synced my iPhone 3GS on my PC (running Vista) yesterday, and it dropped a couple of error messages (-46 being one). No problems, I thought, I'll try again. Still failed. Unplugged everything, try again - now says "An iPhone has previously been synced with this computer, set up as new iPhone or Restore from backup".
This is a huge problem - my PC and IPhone combo don't like each other, and the last time I tried to upgrade the firmware it failed and forced me to restore which also failed. The only way I could get my iPhone back was to use another PC which was running XP. Consequently there is no way I am restoring my phone off my main PC (as it won't work), and I don't want to set up as new phone, as I'll presumably lose all my data (messages, notes, voice memos, etc). I plan to back up the phone on my laptop, just in case, and I've made copies of the backups on my main PC, but any ideas how I can make my PC realise that it actually already knows my phone?
We do have two iphones which we sync on this PC, and it's never played up like this before. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Allan, thanks for your reply! Thanks also for the link.
I did look to do what you suggested, but unfortunately the only option it gives me now on right-click is "eject" (both on PC, which is what I sync with and also my laptop, which has met this phone once before). My phone seems to be telling the computers that it's a virgin new phone, rather than one I've been using for several months.
I'm just hoping that the last backup on iTunes for my phone is complete - ie not corrupted during the last sync that appears to have corrupted my phone. At some point I will have to bite the bullet and let it restore from backup. Can I copy the backup files from my PC to my laptop ?
    Cheers,

  • I have to restore my iphone 4s becasue it is saying "disabled connect to itunes" and it's never been synced with itunes. However the sleep/wake button is broken on the phone is there still away to restore without using it?

You can try, but the problem with that is you need battery power in order to restore. Once your phone has enough power to restore, it will still show the same message. To get the phone into either recovery mode or DFU mode requires the ability to first turn the phone off. But, you've got nothing to lose, so you might as well give it a shot.

  • Everytime i connect my iPhone to my laptop itunes will say "This computer has previously been synced with an iPhone or another iOS device" is there anything i can do to stop this?

When i connect my iPhone to my laptop it will only come up with the option to restore from backup, this has happened 3 times tonight
    Can anyone help?

The error message you're seeing is likely the other way around -- i.e. something like "This iPhone has previously been synced with a different computer".   There's no problem syncing multiple iOS devices to the same computer.
However, the reverse is not true for the iPhone --  you cannot connect an iPhone to another computer without it being erased, even if you manually manage music and video.  So, it sounds like you've been syncing your iPhone to a different computer?
Also, 5.1 (not 5.0.1) is the latest iOS.

  • ITunes crashed during transfer purchases now says This computer has previously been synced with an iPhone or another iOS device

The problem that have started when I was going to sync my iPhone 4 with current iTunes running on 64bit Windows 7.
I started iTunes and plugged in my iPhone.
All looked good and the iPhone came up as the device as it should have.
Next I wanted to transfer purchases prior to syncing so I started the Transfer Purchases process.
iTunes stopped working during the Transfer Purchases process
Now when I plug in my iPhone iTunes takes me to the “setup your iPhone” screen and displays “This computer has previously been synced with an iPhone or another iOS device” and only allows me to restore and old backup or setup as new.
Obviously some files were not closed properly when iTunes crashed during the transfer purchases process, how can I cleanup iTunes so that it will allow me to backup and sync my phone.
I am a software developer and am sure that a fix is not in the menu options   What I am saying is that I can easily remove or edit corrupt files to get it working.
    Thanks, Mike

  • This computer has previously been synced with an iPhone or another IOS device

iTunes has stopped syncing my iPhone and iPad.  Now when I plug either of them in I get the message in the subject line.
As a result it offers me the change to set up as a new iPhone or restore from a backup.
The closest I can get to explaining how it's got itself confused is that I had some kind of network issue on the computer, and I got a warning message on my iMac telling me that there was another device on the network called iMac, so it had renamed itself iMac (2).  (There was no either iMac - I assume that on reboot somehow the network de-registration hadn't worked properly).  I changed the name back to iMac and rebooted and everything else seems fine (including online backups that are done against the named computer).  Not sure if this has anything to do with my sync problem or not - but it's the only oddity I can think of.
Any suggestions about how to get iTunes to allow the sync again with the iPhone and iPad that it was quite happily syncing with until recently?

  • This computer has previously been synced with an iPhone or other iOS.

I have just upgraded my iPhone 4 with the recent upgrade to 5.0.1  - I get the response "This computer has previously been synced with an iPhone or other iOS".  I then get two options:  1)  Set up as new iPhone, or 2)  Restore from Back Up.  So I restore the device - but it returns to the page that says "SET UP iPHONE, and gives me the 2 options again - set up new phone or restore.  It will not sync my purchased apps onto the iPhone - my iPhone only shows bookmarkes saved.
When plugged into iTunes, it shows on the far left as my device plugged in, yet if I go to "FILE" - in the drop down menu, it shows "sync iPod" or "transfer purchases for iPod"  but not iPhone... and its shaded grey.  iTunes is up to date, and the phone is not jail broken.  iTunes still has all my apps stored there - but they will not sync to my phone.
I have also rebooted my iPhone by holding the HOME and POWER button down, then releasing the power button.  Nothing seems to work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Try setting it up as a new phone. There is probably something wrong with the existing backup.

  • This computer has previously been synced with an iphone

I've got an iphone 3g & everytime I connect it to my computer it says "this computer has previously been synced with an iphone". It then says set up as a new phone or restore from the back up of iphone. This is the only iphone I've had & I've always used the same computer to sync etc. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get it to stop asking me to restore or set up as a new phone. I've tried doing both of these several times & I still get this screen coming up. I've also uninstalled & reinstalled itunes to see if it would help but it hasn't. I would appreciate any help anyone can give me.

    Try this:
    1. First, disable auto-sync when an iPod/iPhone is connected under iTunes>Preferences>Devices(under the edit menu if using Windows).
    2. On that same device pane, highlight and delete any and all backups listed.
    3. Connect your phone, iTunes running, and re-name your phone in the left device pane:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3965
    4. Then, right-click your phone in the left device pane & select "Backup". When finished sync your phone.
See if doing this fixes things.

  • IPhone 4 stuck on "verifying", saying "This Computer has previously been synced with an iPhone or another iOS device".

  • My ipad has lost its sync with my mac.

For some reason my ipad is not recognised by my mac's itunes library.  It wants to delete and resync.  I have back it up manually - but I want to make sure that game settings etc are not lost forever.  If I sync (erase and reinstall) can I then back up manually the game settings / levels?
    Thanks

Yes - you should be able to restore from the backup if needed and that should restore your game data - as long as you perform the manual backup before you erase and install. You may find that even if you select erase and install that everything will be OK anyway - because you are installing your own iTunes library back onto the iPad. It's not like you are syncing to a new computer - you are still syncing to your own iTunes library.
Look at this article - is this what you are experiencing by some chance?

But have you tried quitting iTunes, rebooting the Mac and restarting the iPad? Sometimes I get weird messages from iTunes and if I restart all devices, things return to normal.

  • IPhone 4s: "This computer has previously been synced with an iPhone or other iOS device"

I've been using my 4s for a month with little/no issues but now whenever I attempt to sync it it comes up with the "Set up your iPhone page" and asks me to restore. I went ahead and restored about 5 times but each time i finished restoring it, it would ask me to restore again. I tried restarting and rebooting, I looked through forums and other similar questions were unresolved so I'm kind of lost here.

I'm on a Mac btw, if that means anything, not sure.

    Hello Allan,
I did the reset, the pc scrren said it would take about a half hour reseting which is ok. But midway through the process it apparently disconnected itself from the Ipad and the ipad icon disappeared from the itunes screen.  Will try process again see if it works.  Thanks for the suggestion.
