HT4157 my ipad stays on the data plan when im next to my wifi. Why doesnt it switch over to the wifi?

I bot the ipad mini with the cellular plan. My old ipad would automatically go to my wifi from my data plan when i was close to it. Or for that matter, any wifi network. Now, I have to manually turn off the data plan to pick up wifi. How can I get to automatically switch over to wifi?

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or just turn cellular off like you have been doing.

Unfortunately sometimes these manager instances can be created before the Application class is created and/or before the systemManager property is set on the application. So to get the reference to the system manager from the manager instances, we can't use ApplicationGlobals.application.systemManager. We need to use SystemManagerGlobals.topLevelSystemManagers[0] instead. This property is set in the SystemManager constructor, and fortunately for us, Flash runs your root display object's constructor before anything else, even before static initializers (atleast ones not defined in SystemManager or a dependency of it).

class when ever we need. There doesn't seem to be any in your code, since that variable is never accessed. It could be useful if you wanted to have a Point that was shared across all instances. This is not a good example of that though.

Anyone know of a store activating a phone requiring a data plan without purchasing the data plan? If so, which store? This is where I will purchase the phone I want if I stay with Verizon.

Their network and their right to charge what they want and what policies they want. If people don't like the terms it's best to look elsewhere. Currently there is no carrier in the world that doesn't require a data plan for a smartphone. T-Mobile US is one that only if you bought the device outright you don't need one, BUT it's dependent on the plan you get.
Also the iPhone 3G will not work on Verizon. Difference in technology...

No. You have no place for a sim card in the WiFi only iPad. You MAY be able to purchase a personal MIFI hotspot that will work with a data plan in another country. I have one here in the U.S. that I bought through Verizon, but I assume it will only work on the Verizon network here with my Verizon Data Plan. So you would need a data plan in the country in which you want to use the iPad if this option is available for you.

If you use imessage while on WiFi does it still use your data plan or does it only use the data plan if you're on 3G?

I just got the new iPhone4s (my first time off of a flip phone!) with the imessaging but I'm not sure if that is going to use up my data plan if I use it instead of texts. If I'm at home on my wifi will that still take away from my data plan if I use imessage? I know that FaceTime works off of wifi as opposed to the data plan but wasn't sure if it was the same for imessage. I'm on the Verizon data plan if that matters.

This weekend, the AT&T tower near our home failed. We had no AT&T cell service whatsoever. During this time, our home WiFi was always running at 100%. No iMessage would go through, nor could any iMessage be received. Both my and my wife's iPhone 4S were connected to the home WiFi and were used with it. Two things did not work: cell service and iMessage.
I think that iMessage seems to rely on the phone data plan, or at least the cell service must be in range to use it.

Well when I made the change online since that seems to be the thing that Verizon wants it's customers to do and I didn't see all the different plans available and just did the upgrade to 8g. Next bill had over $900 in roaming charges on her phone line. I called back after thinking about it and wondered why changing a data plan for the phones in the US would change a international call plan. Waiting over 10 minutes again between waiting for a service rep and hold for one to answer the call. Gave her all the information about it and she said she would call back. Well, 4 days later over the weekend she had nevered called back. So on the phone again for the third time and after 20 plus minutes again was told that when I did it online I click the plan that didn't include international call only the data plan. Explained that I never saw the difference in the plan packages so put on hold again and was told that they could credit $100 to my bill. Wow, thanks alot !!! We have been Verizon customers for probably atleast 12 years and this is how you treat your long term customers?

Is the data plan required?

I'm currently planning on purchasing an iPhone, but am just wondering whether the extra data plan charge(I'm currently an AT&T customer) is required to use the phone. I don't plan on using it for the internet or email, since I can just do that at home. Heck, I rarely text or receive any texts. I just want to use and have the phone feature and save space in my pockets.

Saw this on another post.
Applecare Senior Advisor Txx Bxxx (I have his contact info in an email he just sent) just confirmed with me that the problem people are having with the App Store not loading is an apple issue with there servers, ITS NOT YOUR IPAD so don't go restoring it! It's not happening to everyone however but they are looking into it, its really hit or miss.

This works for some users. Not sure why.
Go to Settings>General>Date and Time> Set Automatically>Off. Set the date ahead by about a year.Then see if you can connect to the store.

Can somebody clarify the data plans for me?

My wife and I are looking to get our first Droids and I have some questions about the data plan.
Does the 150MB allowance refer only to downloading/uploading or will we be charged for, say, listening to the radio online? Does playing Farmville count towards the allowance? What about GPS? I looked around the Verizon site but can't find any clear explanation of the data plans.

Any time you transmit or recieve data on Verizon's network, you will be assessed usage against your 150MB allowance on that plan. That means that any time you send information to, or download information from the internet, you will be using your allowance. This includes activities like playing games online (Farmville) and listening to the radio online. Both of those activities are fairly data intensive, and if you plan to do them more than 1-2 times a month for a short amount of time, you should consider the unlimited data plan.
GPS does not use data in and of itself, but most programs that utilize GPS, like navigation programs, or apps that help you identify businesses/restaurants/attractions nearby will use data when they download that information.
If you are online and you are NOT connected to a Wifi network, you are using data.

AT&T GoPhone plan does not require a data plan, you can activate a smart phone on a basic gophone plan. However, if you don't turn data off at the carrier level, you will get a per use charge for data.
IT is not how the phone and service is expected to work, yet it can and does. If it works on AT&TA, it will probably work on Verizon also.
I will repeat, this is not how it is designed to work.
