HT4168 Pages export to ePub - unwanted question marks

When I export a Pages doc to ePub, a question mark appears at the end of every line. How can I avoid that? If I take the Export to ePub doc from Apple and export it, no problem. If I add some lines of my own at the end and then re-export, question marks appear at the end of the lines I have added. It's driving me nuts! Any advice would be appreciated.

You may have moved or removed content on your page or its possible you used the"Adjust Image" and over sharpeed one or more images.
I assume you mean it does not show up of new Chapter pages... have you checked the template?
Where you see the ? you need to either reduce teh box outline size - or drop anther copy of the original image onto it, it may fill the ? box or sit on top.... delete the ? box.
If its Chapter page only related, its better doing this in the template.
Is you image .jpg or .png?

Pages export to ePub and retaining italics

Is there a method to retain italics when exporting to ePub?

If you applied italic without using a named style, I'm not surprised that you loose it.

How do I get rid of the extra table of contents that appears following the Pages export to epub?

When I export my document to epub out of Pages and then open it in ibooks (or any other ereader for that matter) an extra table of contents with links to the document sections appears at the beginning. This toc has its own numbering system--with its numbers set in front of those I have assigned. This toc is ugly and superfluous and doesn't seem to have anything to do with the table of contents available in the dropdown menu used while actually reading the document. How do I get rid of this extra table of contents? I'm sure I must be missing something obvious, but I can't find a way to remove it. Thanks for any help with this problem.

When clicking pages and keynote tap a question mark appears and it doesn't launch. What can I do without having the original disc anymore?

I tried to clean up my mac yesterday and might have deleted some files by accident which are connected to iwork. However I still see when looking through library support files that a lot of iworks is still there except in the applications folder. So how can I recover iworks? I can't find the disc either due to lot of moves in the past. Or do I have to purchase a new set of iworks?

Question marks all over site

I uploaded my site from dreamweaver, but when i try to view it online most of the pages are covered in small question marks in blue boxes. I presume this means there is something going wrong with my images. Could anyone give me some help on this on how to get rid of the question marks and get my site up and running. Much appreciated.

You really should be able to figure this out yourself. You apparently have two folders for images on the server and are making use of both of them (images and Images). Pick one and be consistent in using it.

Question marks popping up?

Recipients of messages from my Mail complain of unwanted question marks littering my mailings. The problem may be connected to the space bar although I am not sure?

Using RTF for message composition with the Mail.app is not a problem for most email clients except for Windows Outlook and if you check, the recipients reporting this problem are likely Windows Outlook users.
The best and easiest way to resolve it is by using Plain Text for message composition until Apple and/or Microslop work on getting this resolved.

Search no mapped unicode characters as question mark

No mapped unicodes characters are replace by question mark.
I want to search/detect these characters to correct them (i may spend too much time to find the character "?" in a big document, because of real question mark).
How can i do ?

Arnis' .mif suggestion is the way I've tackled this problem from time to time, but save a spare copy before you start <g><br /><br />You may not need to, though. I haven't checked, but see if you can find a page with both a normal question-mark and one you know indicates a unicode character. Then copy/paste the unicode question-mark into the Find/replace dialogue and see what happens; I suspect it will have its own value, not the same as a normal question-mark.

Wikiserver strips out links with question marks

Since installing a fresh copy of yosemite and server 4, I've noticed the wiki server no longer allows links with question marks.
This makes it impossible to create links that are based on tags
eg https://myserver/wiki/find?tags=mytag
I also use the wiki to share links to a auto login page with also needs a question mark.
Is this something that can be added to the the whitelist ?

I have sort of got round it by using a link shortening service, not ideal but works for now

Dash becomes question mark

Hi, I have the following Portugese text in my database: S�TIO V�RZEA DO PARAITINGA � AREIAS-SP
When I display it on my jsp page the dash becomes a question mark and the String shows like this: S�TIO V�RZEA DO PARAITINGA ? AREIAS-SP
When i log the String it looks fine but when I display it using <%=request.getAttribute("subject")%> the question mark is there instead of the dash. If I execute the following code in the servlet the problem is resolved:
subject=subject.replaceAll("�","& ndash;"); With & ndash I mean the html for dash which can not be written here without it getting converted to –. Executing the replacement should not be necessary however.
What am I doing wrong?

Thank you for your reply. If I don't put the following in my jsp the page gets filled with junk:
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">When I log the string before it's sent to the jsp it looks correct on windows but not on linux(!). The en dash becomes a question mark on linux.
I have tried running the mysql database both on linux and on windows and I get different results. The text in the database looks like this if I run the database on linux:
S�TIO V�RZEA DO PARAITINGA ? AREIAS-SP.
The text in the database looks like this if I access a copy of the same database when the database runs on windows:
S�TIO V�RZEA DO PARAITINGA � AREIAS-SP.
Note the difference between � and -. On windows I can replace the longer dash with its html code but on linux the dash just shows as a question mark directly from the database. I have set the database to use utf-8. The db was running on linux when the data first got inserted, now running a db with this data on window works. Why can't it work on linux? The problem is with the unicode character 'EN DASH' (U+2013)

Question mark in a Big Q when using firefox

Seen this question asked ALot, I have this problem and never could find a answer. I have the latest firefox and quicktime, even upgraded to pro, didnt help at all. When I do the same link in IE, the link works fine. I even went to the 3rd party quicktime page and downloaded every 3rd party plugin. Please any suggestion would be great, I do not want to go back to IE, as firefox runs faster, smoother, and has greater security.

When ever I go to a web site with embedded QT content using FireFox, I get a QuickTime logo with a question mark in it, and I am not able to view the pictures, SWF's, etc. I downloaded a plug in, so it works in IE, but not FireFox. Can anybody help?

I had the same problem - works fine in IE, but not in Firefox, but I found a fix that worked for me. Go into QT Settings, Streaming. The default is set on "Automatic" but the "Override Speed for Downloads" box was not checked. I checked it, and selected 28.8/33.6 kbps (which was appropriate for my situation). When I loaded a page that usually had the question mark in the logo, it actually came up properly - no question mark!
I don't know if this will work for anyone else, but it's worth a try.

How do I question mark in dock

I had a problem which left a question mark (?) in the dock which I can't remove. When you click on it the identity shows Quicken 2005. Can' drag it out of the Dock to remove it. Next to it is a symbol for Quicken, which opens Quicken 2005 properly. Anyone know how to remove the unwanted question mark?

Deming... control-click/right-click on that icon in the dock and see if you get a choice to ...quit Application....... then drag it out of the Dock.

QuickTime 7.3.1, I get the question mark?

I have a problem with browsers when I see the trailers of the movies page apple, I get the question mark over QuickTime.

I struggled with this issue for a while. One of my false successes was re-installing Flash Player which worked until I closed my browser and reopened it.
For some reason apple removed the option in the MIME settings to disable Flash Media. I think they were looking to remove the option since QuickTime wont play Flash Media. However, I looked at my com.apple.quicktime.plugin.plist in the Plist Editor that comes with Developer and discovered that the Shockwave Flash was set to "true." So, when upgrading to 7.3 somehow it not only kept my old prefs, but it enabled that option (which I never enabled) in my prefs, which is no longer an option in the User Interface Prefs. So I tried changing it to "False" but when I opened a browser session and went to a page with Flash Media, QuickTime changed it back to "True." I tried deleting the file and QuickTime recreated it with the same settings. I later found out deleting the com.apple.quicktimeplayer.plist and the QuickTime Preferences files and rebooting would fix the problem. One of these files was causing the recreation of the com.apple.quicktime.plugin.plist file. Deleteing all three of these files should fix the problem.

HT4168 How does one export a Pages doc to epub?

How do I export a Pages doc to epub-previous articles state you should choose Share > Export to epub-However when you try that you get a message stating that iworks has been discontinued? What now-I still do not know how to publish a Pages document to epub (post iworks so-to-speak) -please help? I have writtern a 30 pages mini-ebook and now want to publish it to epub (to enable me to publish it on iBooks, B&N and Amazon Kindle) but I do not know how to proceed?
