How do I disable Airport Utility, not using it and it keeps searching

So are you talking about the iPad app? Or the Mac app? If you're talking about the Mac app, you should post in the forum for the system software that you have or the Airport forum:

  • How to Install Airport Utility in a differant language to windows

    Hi,
I have a German Windows XP PC. How do I get the Airport Utility (For the new AirPort Extreme 802.11n) to install in a different language (English)?
    Thanks for your help,
    Adam

The application is always going to install in whatever language you have the PC set to. The only way I can think to change this is to change your installation from German to English.

  • How to restore airport utility

This morning my iMac asked me to do an update which contained a new version of airport. This also required a restart.
After the install airport can no longer detect either my time capsule nor an airport express. It displays them with a message stating they used to be on the system and do I want to forget them.
Time Capsule and its folders show up OK in finder.
I decided to try and restore the previous airport utility but time machine (which again proves the time capsule is there) tells me it cannot restore airport becuase it is part of the OS.
Apple care want 49€ for assisting on this issue.
Does anybody know how to do a restore?

It was not possible to either delete or rename the original in the utilities folder. Surely If I am adminstrator I should be able to do things like that?
You'd think so, but Apple has tightened-up the security on a lot of things, apparently trying to protect us from ourselves (some folks delete all sorts of critical stuff, thinking they don't need them and it will save space!).
You can delete it via Terminal, or some 3rd-party apps.
Open the Terminal app (in your Applications/Utilities folder). Be very careful with this app.  It's a direct link into UNIX, the underpinnings of OSX, but without the protections of OSX.
In Terminal, the prompt looks like this:  <Computer Name>:~ <your name>$
(where <your name> is your short user name).  It's followed by a non-blinking block cursor.
Copy, do not type, the following after the prompt:
    sudo rm -rf /Applications/Utilities/AirPort\ Utility.app
and press Return. You'll be prompted for your Admin password (which won't be displayed).  Press Return again.
There may or may not be any messages displayed; you'll know it's done when you see the prompt again.

  • How to install Airport utility without windows 7

I just bought Apple Airport Extreme.  Everything is plugged in and Airport Utility did not install.  What if I do not have Windows 7?  How do I get my network setup?

Sorry, I do not have a PC handy to test, but you clearly have a PC setttings issue, likely related to the anti-virus settings or a Windows Firewall blocking action. Try posting in a Windows support forum for tips on how to connect to a wireless network.
The Windows troubleshooting guide may help as well:

  • How to disable airport so that standard users can't reenable it ?

Even when I disable airport interface from the command line :
sudo ifconfig en1 down (what requires sudo privileges)
a standard user can reenable it ! Strange behaviour compared to linux or windows OS.
If someone knows how to block airport, please let me know.
    Thanks

    Hello,
    Thank you for the answers.
    All users are standard users.
The option I was searching for is in System Preferences - Network - AirPort - Advanced - Require admin password for : Disabling or enabling AirPort. The other two options could be useful too.
I think I'll add this to my base image. In the meantime I'll try to apply the settings via Apple Remote
I didn't find the exact settings to enable the 3 options from the command line, if you know how to do this please tell me.
I found a few very useful commands though :
Disable/Enable airport from the command line
    networksetup -setairportpower en1 off/on
That's the command I will use when all machines will be configured with "Require admin password for : Disabling or enabling AirPort". If it's not configured the user can reenable airport.
Disable/Enable airport service from the command line :
    networksetup -setnetworkserviceenabled AirPort off/on
That's the command that can help when you haven't block the users yet. A standard user can reenable the service but he needs to know the command as well as how to use terminal.

  • How to get Airport Utility display name of connected devices ?

    Hello,
I would like to see what devices are connected on my Time Capsule.
    Usually, Airport Utility  shows:
    - MAC address, IP address and client ID in DHCP tab
    - MAC address in wireless client tab with signal level plotted on graphic
So, it's a little awkward, but you can assume that:
    - wired devices are connected if they show in DHCP tab
    - wireless devices are connected if they show in Wireless client tab. Then you can assume what wireless device it is, using the MAC address as identifier and reading client ID
Usually client ID are plain readable, like "iPhone Bob", "Mac of Sarah", etc...
Sometimes there is a third party manufacturer cryptic info.
Sometimes there is nothing. For example with my Canon printer
With time, i've learned to know what MAC address my devices are, and consigned them in a list; but i found it painful to go to my list of devices and retrieve them with their MAC adresses. I would like airport utility to make this association, like they do for apple devices
    So my question is:
Is there any file that i can edit to associate the Mac address of the device with the name i want ?
I suppose there might be some hosts file somewhere ?
    thanks

I've found an xml config file in ~/library/application Support/Apple/Airport/
    There is a
                                                      <key>hostname</key>
                                                      <string>Canon Printer</string>
missing, that I have added. Now all DHCP devices have disappeared in Airport utility (but are still connected); i guess they will reappear once the dhcp bail has been renewed, (in one day) but that won't change anything, as this xml file is likely an output, not an input.
    I'll keep you posted

  • How to disable Airport via Terminal?

I need to disable Airport from Terminal because I have a bunch of G4 iBooks that kernel panic upon login unless booted in safe mode. But in safe mode Airport IS off (that's part of why I suspect it's causing the KPs) - so I can't use System Preferences to 'turn it off' so that it remains off upon normal restart. All of these machines are running OS 10.4.x.
At Mac OS X Hints, I found Enable and disable Airport from the command line which would be perfect - however when I use this command (sudo ifconfig en1 down), the result is "interface en1 does not exist".
In safe mode, System Preferences, I CAN delete the Airport configuration - but that's an 'undoable' action & I'm not sure it's wise. Any suggestions?

Thanks, twtwtw. I know that at least some of these machines were not cloned, because some of the system versions predate the first image I used for that purpose. Some probably were cloned, but they operated for a couple of years before this began.
    The (safe mode) output is:
    admin$ ifconfig

  • How to disable Zooming utility, smoothview, etc.?

I have a Toshiba Satellite M105-S3084 running XP. I would like to disable some of the unnecessary utilities that start at startup and take up ram like Toshiba Zooming utility, CEEkey, etc.
How do I do this? and still have them available for manual starting?

There are lots of programs, that are delaying the startup of windows. Many of them are useless, some are necessary.
The easiest way to "stop" them from starting on their own, is through Microsoft's program: msiconfig.exe
In order to start it, do this:
    1) Click on [START]
    2) Select "Run..."
    3) type into the box where it says OPEN: ---> msiconfig
A new program will pop up on your screen, in the top bar you can see the menu-option "Startup" <--- click on it ;)
Now you will see a list of applications, that start when your computer boots into Windows.
You can deselect the programs, that you don't want to startup on their own, but remember to leave the necessary ones.
If you are asking yourself now, "How do I know which ones are the safe ones to disable?",... then you should use Google
to investigate for you about the specific "Startup item" that is listed on your Laptop. Just search for it... (example: KHALMNPR.exe)
and some webpages will pop up telling you, that this is the mouse driver of Logitech bla bla bla...
One last note from me: If you want to disable Programs, that have settings inside of them "Enable during Startup on Windows" (like SKYPE),
then you will have to deselect this option within that application. If you just disable it from msiconfig, it will re-appear whenever you
    manualy start that application.
    Good luck

  • How to disable Airport Status using Apple Remote Desktop?

I am in a school and students have began using the "Create Network" item in the Airport Status menu to send inappropriate messages to each other. I can uncheck the "Show Airport Status in menubar" which will eliminate this but I'd rather not have to go around to 200 computers. Is there a Unix command that I can send in ARD that will disable this menu from even showing up? Thanks.

I see that you are also using AD and OD together. You can use OD to push out a computer MCX preference, that will disable the student's ability to do just what you want.
Select the computer list, click preferences at the top, choose Network, Sharing & Interfaces, set it to Always and check Disable Internet Sharing.
    It works well.
I know this is not what you asked for, but hopefully it solves your problem.

  • How do you upload firmware to Airport extreme with the following message: This version of AirPort Utility requires this AirPort Extreme use firmware version 7.3.1 or later. Use AirPort Utility 5.6 to update this base station. I'm using airport utility 6.0

The airport extreme at my parent's house has not had its firmware update in some time and it keeps dropping the internet connection and needing to be reset.
I went to update firmware and opened up airport utilities (I'm running airport 6.0 on Mountain Lion, 10.7.4).  Everytime I open the airport utility I get the following message: "
This version of AirPort Utility requires this AirPort Extreme use firmware version 7.3.1 or later. Use AirPort Utility 5.6 to update this base station. AirPort Utility 5.6 is available at AirPort Service and Support.
I've followed the link and tried to update firmwares but none are available and the print says that airport utility will look to see if firmware are available and load them as necessary when prompted by user.
One link said the only way to solve this problem is open up Airport Utility 5.6. I tried to do this, but 5.6 is not supported on Mountain Lion and couldn't be opened up.
I'm getting the exact same message on my other computer, a Mac Air.
So basically, can't download new firmware and am stuck with a ****** airport extreme that needs to keep being reset, a factory reset, in order to use the internet, but then continues to give me the same message.
    Thanks!

  • AirPort Express not recognized by AirPort Utility, but connected to WiFi network

    Hi all,
This problem with AirPort Express is driving me nuts. I purchased AX to use it mainly for AirPlay, but I never managed to get it fully working.
It seems to be working fine for some time after initial boot, but then the AirPlay play option disappears from iTunes, and AirPort Utility (5.6.1) no longer finds any AirPort device.
I'm using a Planet WNRT-625G router as a base station (connected to my modem box), and I'm joining this WiFi network as a client (I understand extending the network does not work if it's not an AirPort Extreme station?). The WiFi is protected by a WPA2 pre-shared key, and I have tried using different channels. I have assigned a fixed IP to my AX... all to no avail.
In the status details of my router, I can see that the AX is connected, and I am able to ping my AX... but all Apple software cannot find its own device. Any clue what may be going wrong? How does the AirPort Utility find AirPort devices?
Thanks to all in advance for your help and ideas! Appreciate it.
    jfk-007

by design the AX will create a separate network when it starts up for the first time.
click on the airport icon in your menu bar. you should see something like Apple network XXXXXXXX. in order to set up the express, you will have to temporarily join its network !
you will get a message asking "do you really want to switch networks ?" and you do want to do that.  now you should see the AX in AU. click on the icon of the AX once to highlight it, then click continue.
follow onscreen instructions to either have the AX create a new or join an existing network.

  • In Yosemite, Airport Utility Fails

When I open Airport Utility 6.3.4  in OS 10.10.1, I get a green light on Internet, but never see the Basestation. Thus I cannot update or configure it.
Anyone have a clue how to get Airport Utility to work in Yosemite?

    Do a backup.
    Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.airport.airportutility.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.
Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.

  • Airport Utility cant connect to Airport Extreme Base Station, Error code -4

I am unable to use my Apple-product. Earlier it worked, with these settings: The Airport Extreme Base Station worked as a Gigabit switch and an Access Point. It was not supposed to work as a router, since I have a server "on the far side" of the AEBS.
In any case, it worked for a while. Then it started to act strangely, so I tried to check its settings. I was unable, so I did a factory reset. And haven´t been able to connect (for configuring) since. (It still works as a router and access point, but with the default settings, and with a blinking yellow led.)
When I use the Airport Utility (5.5.1) connected with a cable it finds nothing. Should I be able to configure it wired? When I connect wireless to the default "Apple Network XXXXXX" it finds the Airport Extreme "with default settings". I click "continue" or "Manual setting", and it says "Detecting wireless Apple Devices" (bear in mind that I translate the messages from swedish, It might get wrong), and then after a minute:
An error occurred while trying to access the base station. Make sure your network connection is valid and try again. Error Code: -4
I have shut off the firewall in both Windows and Panda Cloud Office Protection. I have tried to make lots of factory resets.

  • Older model Airport Express won't work with Mountain Lion Airport Utility

just upgraded to Mountain Lion and noticed that of my network of three airport expresses connected to various stereo speaker systems throughout the house, one of the older models won't work with the supplied version of Airport Utility (v 6.1). Here is the message it gives in the utility when I attempt to select this particular Airport Express:
"This version of AirPort Utility doesn't support this base station. Use AirPort Utility 5.6 to configure or manage this base station. AirPort Utility 5.6 is available at AirPort Service and Support."
Well, I go to download v 5.6 and none of the versions available will install on Mountain Lion! (even the version for Lion) Catch 22.
Any resolution to this (other than having to go out and buy a newer version Airport Express)?
