My mum recently gave me her old iPod, a 2nd gen. My sister tried to upgrade it up to iOS 5 but couldn't.
Every time I plug my iPod into charge it pops up in iTunes saying, "This iPod cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 10.1 or later. Go to www.itunes.com to download the latest vesion of iTunes."
Alls well saying that, but my problem is I'm running on version 10.4.11 Snow Tiger on a MacBook Pro.
When I go to download the iTunes it states that I need version 10.6.11 Snow Leopard.
My mother and sister both have Snow Leopard and Snow Lion but they will not let me use their iTunes.
What I need to know if there is anyway that I can get music onto my iPod without purchseing songs from the iTunes store.
Can anyone help?

I remember at one time haveing iBooks on my ipod but i had no use for it at that time so i deleted it from both my computer and ipod and now i need it but i cant install it because its requires 5.0.1 and i want to know if there is a way for me to download the older version of it or is there another way for me to be able to save a pdf file on my ipod without iBooks

There are countless apps besides to read pdf, most probably better than ibooks, just search on that term in the app store. GoodReader is a popular one. -
I've done an update on 7/25/11 as requested by Itunes. Since I've done the update I've lost all my music, videos and icons. I also can't connect to any PC via the USB port. What can I do to restore my 2nd Generation Ipod Touch back to factory?
I also have a 2nd generation iPod and when the new version was being advertised on the home page, I clicked on it. And I saw that the update was compatible with iPod touch 3rd and 4th generation, iPad 1 and 2, and all the iPhones. But it wasn't compatible with iPod touch 2nd generation. So you downloaded an update which wasn't compatible with your iPod. I'm sorry.

Triple click the home button and try going to Settings>General>Accessibility and turn VoiceOver off. You may have to use three fingers to scroll the screen to get there. If problems see:

I am very reluctantly considering upgrading to Lion and going ahead and migrating MobileMe to iCloud before June 2012. If I upgrade and migrate, will I still be able to sync my 2nd generation iPod Touch via USB cable? Or will these changes force me to get a new iPod that can run iOS 5 because syncing will be nightmarish?

You can download purchases from itunes as long as they still carry them. they may not be available forever.
All of your music and everything esle should be on your computer and backed up with your regular backup copy of your computer.
You can download most itunes purchases on ipad, ipod touch and iphone.
I see no reason to have an ipod and an iphone.
If your ipad/iphone/ipod crash you would have to restore using itunes on your computer.
I would not reccommend using an iphone ipod/ipad without a computer. -

My niece sold me her second generation ipod touch so I could give it to my five-year old for christmas. I was so excited to give it to him, until I tried to start loading apps.
