HT4208 IBooks on Windows PC

How do I read a book that I purchased thru Apple store without using the Itunes features that will not open the purchased book on my Windows PC?
[email protected]

"So, I will never be able to open the book that I purchased in Itunes from my PC? "
I have no idea what the future holds.  Currently, you cannot open an ibook on anything other than an ipod touch/iphone/ipad.
"Books that I purchased from other stores and use BAM reader on the IPad, I am able to read in Adobe Digital Reader on the Windows PC."
OK.
Still cannot do this with ibooks.
Sorry

I need to get a bunch of files from my friends laptop. I figure using an ethernet connection would be easiest I just don't know how. What would be the best way of doing this?
    ibook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Hi Kelsey, if you need nay more help.
This is how I set it up, Making sure my location on the iBook was on automatic I connected the ethernet cable to the PC first and then to the mac. Opened command prompt on the Win machine and typed ipconfig This gave me the network interfaces and the IP addresses it was using. Then on the mac Apple+K and typed in smb://IPaddress_ofPC and hit enter. Should get the SMB/CIFS login window.Enter a username and password from the PC and it should go through. If you have any issues with errors try PC_name\username and password. Once it resolved the IP address I could use the Netbios Name of my PC. I use this almost everyday to access my files and print off my PC and access the Internet through it's DSL connection.
    Cheers.
BTW- You G4 shouldn't need a crossover cable, so any ethernet cable should do.You may have to renew you DHCP lease a few times initially in network settings TCP/IP.Also a little app called BwanaDik lets you know if you have a live network link.

  • Cannot access shared music from iBook on Windows PC; both updated to 7

I just updated both my PC and my iBook to the iTunes 7 and I can only access my PC music library from my iBook and not the other way around. It was working perfectly both ways until I updated the iBook. The message appears on my PC: The shared music library "X" is not compatible with this version of iTunes. They are both updated and I tried temporarily turning off my personal firewall and it still doesn't work. Please help me

    Hi,
Based on my research, I would like to suggest the following:
    1.
Disable simple file sharing on the Windows XP computer:
How to disable simple file sharing and how to set
permissions on a shared folder in Windows XP
    2.
On the Windows 7 computer, go to “Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings” and ensure that the
    following items are turned ON:
    Network Discovery
    File and printer sharing
    And this one is OFF:
    Password protected sharing
    3.
Temporarily disable or remove all the security software (firewall, anti-virus, anti-spyware, etc.) on the computers and check if it works.
    In addition,
I would like to share the following with you for your reference:
    Troubleshoot file and printer

  • Print from iBook to Windows shared printer

    Hi
I would like to be able to print from my iBook through my airport extreme base station to my desktop which is running Windows (XP SP2).
The printer is connected to the desktop not via the USB port on the AEBS.
Is there a way for this to work? I have bonjour installed on my windows desktop but it only sees the printers i have installed on my ibook.
    Please help...
    Many thanks in advance

Hello -- Thanks for the post. I would like to know if you have tried this procedure to connect to a windows printer that is shared via a server on a subnet different from the macintosh's subnet?
    Thanks.
    Yes.
This is how I did it. There may be an easier way.
But Bonjour sure did not help.
Listen very closely - it is much harder than it
    should be.
    1) Make sure the Windows printer is shared. Use a
    sensible name with no spaces.
    2) Go to System Preferences and click on "Print and
    Fax"
    3) Press on the + button to add a printer. The
    printer browser panel will appear
    4) Hold down the OPTION button. (no really - this is
how you do it) and click on the MORE PRINTERS button
at the botton of the browser pane
    5) A sheet appears - in the top-most pull down select
    ADVANCED
    6) In the next pull-down (called Device) select
    Windows Printer via Samba.
    7) Type something into Device name.- whatever you
    want to call it.
    8) In the devide URL type this.....
    smb://username:password@workgroup/computername/printer
    name
The user and password have to apply to the windows
    machine.
The workgroup is the name of the Windows workgroup
The computer name is the name of the windows machine
and the printer name is..er.. the name of the shared
    printer.
If your username has spaces - it could all go
    horribly wrong.
    9) Then use the Printer Model - to select the printer
manufacturer and model. If your printer is not
    there... you may be skrood.
    10) Finally press ADD!!!!!
At this point you can select your default paper size.
Remember to select A4 if you are in Europe.
    Then try printing something.
Not exactly typically Apple "just works" - but it
    does work!

  • Can I read ibook on windows

Can I read books that I purchased through iPad iBook on my Windows 7 laptop?

On every purchase page for Apple's iBookstore, it tells you in the Requirements section what devices can be used.  Windows PC's are never among them.
It is still possible to read some such books on a PC if they are in .epub format and do not have DRM to prevent piracy.  Books published by O'Reilly, for example, fall in that category, as do most free books.  You would just have to download and install a Windows epub reader app (iTunes does not read books).
To read books on a Windows PC, you should buy them from a store which provides an ereader for that platform, such as possibly Kindle, Nook, Kobo, Googlebooks, or Sony.

  • How do I browse the whole list of Made with iBooks Author?

As I remember, before major update of iTunes for mac, I could browse the whole list of "Made with iBooks Author".
However, I can't find the way to browse the whole list of "Made with iBooks Author".
Is the way of browsing disappeared, or changed?
The link of the whole list used to be right above the "New & Coming Soon" in the "Made with iBooks Author" Window.
After the major update of iTunes for mac, It just disappeared
I really want to browse the whole list of it so I can buy the books which was made with iBooks Author.

Pull down View > Show Sidebar.

  • TS1702 help!!!!  I cannot open books in ibooks,  says "failed to load book because the requested resource is missing"  how do i reopen purchased books?

I cannot open open purchased books fro ibooks,  a window pops up saying "failed to load book because the requested resource is missing"  not sure what has happened, extremely frustrating.....does it have something to o with icloud?

Quit the iBooks app completely and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logou appears and let go of the button.
Or try deleting the book and download it again. You can download it again for free as long as you use the same Apple ID.
If that doesn't work either, sometimes deleting the iBooks app and reinstalling it may work. But art with the first two suggestions.

  • IBook G4 won't load after latest security update, repair doesn't work?

Hi I had the same problem as someone else in this forum:
"Last night I saw that my ibook G4 wanted to do a security update. I told it to do it, and the ibook has not started since. It reset itself after downloaded, but it just stays on the booting up screen, never actually booting up so I can use it. After about two hours of trying to boot up, I turned it off, and on again, and it still wont boot.
I really need suggestions as how I can fix it. Thanks

    HI,
Ok... you need to boot from your install disk.
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger and later) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
If you cannot boot from your install disk, try booting in Safe Mode
Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck
If you have the original hard drive in this iBook, it was probably a 60GB drive? When you can do this, check to see how much available disk space there is.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop, then click: Get Info. In the Get Info window, click the discovery triangle so it's facing down. You will see; Capacity and Available Make sure you have 10% available disk space, 15% is better. Not enough available drive space can cause issues like you are experiencing.
    Carolyn "
I tried restarting it after the repair (there were some things to repair and I tried to repair twice just to make sure it didn't miss anything) but it still won't load. It says its starting the OX system, but when the blue bar reaches the end, it doesn't do anything from there. I also left it on for hours and it did nothing. My mousepad still lets me move around the mouse, the caps lock key still lights up, as the num lock key. I tried safe mode but that won't load either...any other suggestions?

*" I also left it on for hours and it did nothing. "*
Your iBook needs to go in for repairs.

  • IPad 2 iBooks unresponsive after iOS 8.1.1 update

After updating to iOS 8.1.1 on my iPad 2 this morning, iBooks fails to launch properly. It seems to freeze with a blank screen (no Library), then the iPad goes back to my home screen. Double-pressing the Home button shows my iBooks Library window, but when I switch to it iBooks is completely unresponsive.  I have shut down and restarted my iPad, but the same thing happens.
    Any suggestions?

Owner of an iPad 2 here with iOS 8.1.1. It sounds like the iBooks app has been corrupted somehow, as it works fine on my tablet.
Did you upgrade from iOS 7 to iOS 8 on the iPad over the air? The reason I ask, and this applies to ANY operating system, is that garbage from an older version can be carried through into the newer version giving exactly the kind of problems you describe. I would recommend that for any new major release of an OS to scrub the device and set it up as a new machine. This is a short-term P.I.T.A. but it does help preempt these kinds of niggles.
In your case let's try the non-drastic approach first: if you can, uninstall the iBook app and then reinstall it via the App store. This usually fixes minor annoyances, but if the iPad persistently misbehaves, nuking it via iTunes might be your best bet. Backup your stuff before you do that, though.

  • Apparently can't authorize for iBooks

Hoping this is a transient problem, but just in case:
I have several purchased iBooks that I'm trying to read on my Mac (Mavericks).
I go to open a book from the iBooks Library window.  I get an authorization dialog, and enter my info - then nothing happens.
If I try it again, I get the same thing, an authorization prompt.  Same result.
The Store menu in iBooks shows both the "Authorize this computer" and "Deauthorize this computer" options available.  Attempting authorize from here - same result.
I've checked id, rebooted, etc.  The only interesting thing I can contribute is this error from the log:
12Dec13 11:36:05.927 AM iBooks[512]: [CKMachineAuthorization authorizeMachineWithAppleID:]; error="The server gave an error during download: 500 Internal Server Error."
Which makes me hope it's a transient error... anyone else see this?

    Simon hello,
    Quit iTunes...
Download Cocktail and start the program... click on the 'interface' Icon and tick 'Show Invisible Items' then click the Restart button...
In a finder window click on the Icon that is your Boot Volume in the Side Bar ... select users ... select shared folder ... select the folder named 'SC info' and put it in the trash and empty it ... Do Not touch any other file.
Pathway looks like this HD > users > shared > SC info > SC Info.sidb
Go back to the Cocktail 'interface' window and untick Show Invisible Items and click restart .. quit Cocktail.
Start iTunes after deletinng this folder and it will prompt you to enter your authorization information again ... see now if your problem still exists...

can i read a book using windows 7

Depends on the type of book.  an unprotected PDF Ebook or a a protected book for a reader that work on Windows yes.  (like A Kindle book in Kindle for Windows)
A book bought from iBooks with DRM protection, no.  It can only be read within the iBooks application on an iDevice or Mac computer.
    No iBooks for Windows.

Adobe Indesign can do this.  I'm sure a simple google search would find various Windows apps.
You cannot submit books directly to Apple using a Windows machine, you would have to use an Aggregator like Smashwords. So you might want to see what format the Aggregator prefers.

  • Can't connect iBook (802.11b) to Time Capsule wirelessly

    Hey:
Just got my new Time Capsule--so far it's very cool; set-up was easy, my backup is progressing, and network set-up went well.
Only problem is connecting my iBook to it wirelessly. I've had no problems connecting my MacBook or Windows laptop; both use 802.11g.
I can see the network in the menu bar and in Network control panel; the authentication is set to WPA Personal by default. I'm entering the same password I used on my MacBook and Windows laptop, but I get the error:
"There was an error joining the AirPort network "<network name>."
I've tried setting it to WPA Personal and WPA 2 Personal, but no luck.
    Any clues?
    Thx!
    -m-

Okay this is where I am at so far.
Time Capsule - wpa personal - sharing IP address:
Working - PowerBook, daughters old iBook, hubby windows xp laptop, wii, ps3, iPod touch
    Not working - iMac, xbox360
The iMac doesn't bother me that much because its the first generation flat panel and its slow but I use it for an animal rescue I volunteer for and my banking, so its kind of a good excuse to finally get a new iMac.
The xbox360 however is annoying me BIG TIME. And I don't think its time capsule. I googled high and low all afternoon and night and from what I can figure out it will only take succesful wpa or wep settings from a router other than anthing not apple. And I am not going back to a non secure hidden network like I was before.
So tonight the next step is moving my cable modem and time capsule downstairs to the xbox and plugging the xbox directly into an Ethernet port.
I will post tomorrow if that worked.

  • IBooks and DV6 Mess Displaying

For some odd reason, whenever I now go into iBooks (latest version and all my software is up to date on my iPad 2nd gen) the very bottom line is a mess of words.  There are still the icons of the book, star, persons, and purchased, but there are also words like footer bar table bar etc., over top of the normal text under the icons.  You can't even read the text properly for the amount of words.  It's like the software is screwed up.
In my search tab at the top of the iBooks Store window it displays DV6.Search which never showed up before.
I have searched these forums for answers, but can't find solutions.
I have done a hard reset of my iPad, synced with my MacBook Air again, logged in and out of my iTunes Store account, deleted the iBooks app, reinstalled it, checked my Settings, but nothing clears the mess in the Store view of my iBooks app.
    Any idea AT ALL???

    Seems I've solved it.
I wasn't syncing with a new(er) cable - was syncing with an old one that did a sync, but it obviously didn't do the right job.
I deliberately plugged in my iPad 2's original USB cable, synced with iTunes, and voila, iBooks is back to normal.
This happened before in another app, if I remember correctly, and I was using an older Apple USB cable.  If that hadn't happened, I wouldn't have thought to try the iPad 2's cable this time.
Guess different generations of cables are as important as software updates...
    Solved.

  • IBooks Chaos

I'm trying to get help on this one. I have no idea what category if fits in here on this website.
    Is iBooks just bugged?
I have all the iBooks collections synced through iCloud I suppose. Frankly i'm not sure how it works. But after I upgraded to Yosemite, none of the actual PDFs and books appear in the iBooks app on the computer. Do I have to re-add them?
Also when I do re-add them:
I drop a series of PDFs in my ibooks collections window, and they do not add into the window.
    This is very annoying.
    Why isn’t it working right?
    ><

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this test is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The "Guest User" login created by "Find My Mac" is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
