suddenly my iphone will not show as a connected device in itunes even though my laptop recognzes that it is attached to my usb port
I have synced this phone before but now it is not recognized by itunes.

Yes it is done through iTunes. The iPhone will never show up in Finder as a device. Restart apple services. Disconnect iphone. On windows, go to start menu, search "services", select services, select Apple Mobile Devices, Stop it and then Start it. Connect iphone and try again.

Check in your Device manager under Universial Serial bus Controllers are there any items that have a ! next to it?

You can't have an iMac PPC (PowerPC) if you loaded Snow Leopard. iMac Intel are the only Macs that are compatible with 10.6. So the first thing wrong you are doing is posting in the wrong forum, or giving us misinformation.
Go to Apple menu -> About This Mac to find out exactly what you are running. A G5 is a PowerPC. Intel is Intel.
Also look at the operating system in that window and update your profile.
What version of iTunes do you have?

System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.

There is no way to consolidate iTunes accounts.
Setting up an iPhone has never required creation of a new Apple ID.
You've apparently purchased content with both Apple ID's. Sign into the device with the correct Apple ID and sync the content.

Do you have the latest version of iTunes for Windows installed? I would turn on the sidebar and the menu bar just to make sure you are seeing everything. If the iPhone is still not recognized in iTunes, follow these troubleshooting steps:

Start here. Is ti normal and expected for the computer to also see the iPod as a comera since that is how you get saved photos from the iPod to the computer.
