Help
If you did not backup your "data" then you have no options.
You have to have the data in order to move the data. -
I have recently transferred data from my old PC to my new Mac Book Pro (Mavericks OS). Each transfer creates a new User account (titled 'Owner', 'Owner 1', etc). I want to merge / consolidate the files from these newly created User accounts into my main user account. Is there a tutorial for this process, or any tips? Anyone?
Four transfers. After the initial attempt with Migration Assistant failed (after hours and hours of wifi transfer) I did "mini-transfers" of more manageable, smaller bits of files -- my music in one, photos in another, etc. Since posting my question in this forum, i contacted Apple support, chatted with Angela, and she suggested getting an ethernet-USB adapter for my mac, connecting my external drive with ethernet and transferring files manually -- that is, NOT using the Migration Assistant at all. She sent me this link to help: Switch Basics: Migrate your Windows files to your Mac. I appreciate your response, tho', Csound1!

How do I get my data from my old iphone to a new iphone?
Hi
I backed-up the data from my old iphone via itunes onto my computer. Now, I have "restored" the replacement iphone- or so I thought. There is none of my old info onto this new phone. Help. I am at a loss. Where do I go to get all of my old data- contacts, apps, music, etc...
Thanks,
CatNope.
Something went wrong.
I've done it twice now and followed the directions on http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Doesn't work. I have no contacts indicated and no notes, etc... from my old iphone.
I have an iphone 4 - so there is no SIM card. Maybe I didn't back up the data properly from the old iphone. I haven't deleted anything yet so I guess I could do the whole process over...
No clue. -

I was transferring data from my old iMac to my new iMac via Time Machine. After about 4 hours, the electrical power fluctuated and turned off my wi-fi. Now most of my necessary programs are useless. How do I erase that mess and start over?
Hello there, LynnS.
The following Knowledge Base article and it's referenced link should get you started with the Erase and Install of Mavericks:
OS X Mavericks: Erase and reinstall OS X

Once you've gone through those 2 articles, this article should help you with restoring from your Time Machine Backup:

My mac and I rely HEAVILY on the use of alias files and folders. The simple version of my question is: When transferring data from an old hard drive to a new one, is there a way to keep alias files and folders in tact? These are not symlinks or symbolic links, they're all alias files and folders.
Is there any software out there that might help me with a solution? Are there any tricks or tips you can give me to try?Use either Setup Assistant at first start, or Migration Assistant on subsequent occasions and all will be transferred intact. Given your wording I presume you are Unix savvy and will appreciate the problems that duplicate userids would cause, so of you use MA for the migration, make sure the target Mac has no userid equal to that on the source and you will be fine.
SA does not have these issues since it runs before any user account is created, so it can simply copy over everything. But MA runs after the fact and only solves the issue partially by changing the UID in the user directory, leading to permission problems. -
okay. when i connected my iphone 5 to itunes it replaced all of the data from my old iphone 3gs (contacts, apps, notes, bookmarks, photos, music, everything you can possibly think of) with my new iphone 5's data. I am so frustrated with this. Why? and it did it by itself, i didnt touch anything, or clicked anything. please help me this is urgent! I am a businessman and need my contacts.
You're iPhone was probably set to automatically sync with your iTunes upon plugging it in. Best option is to restore from a backup, either on iCloud or your computer.

I need to transfer data from my old iphone to my new iphone and I cannot turn off Find my iphone
I need to transfer data from my old iphone to my new iphone and I cannot turn off Find my iphone as my icloud password is incorrect. I have reset this several times and also cleared cookies history etc. none of the above makes a difference. Any ideas?
The ONLY thing you can do to turn off Find My iPhone is to have the correct password. There is no way around it. You can get help with the password: If you forgot your Apple ID password
If none of those methods are possible: Apple ID: Contacting Apple for help with Apple ID account security -
I have forgotten my password for icloud, have an invalid email address and do not know my security answers. How can I transfer all my data from my old iphone to the new one?
In this case you won't be able to do that?

I have recently transferred data from my old Mac to my new one. The result was good, but I have 2 users now, whose data I want to merge into 1 single user, so to avoid having to switch from one user to the other to view and use certain files. How to do it?
Here's an easy way:
Pick the user that you want to eliminate (making sure that the remaining user has administrator privileges) and move all of the data that you want to keep into the Shared folder. Reboot or log out and login to the user you want to keep. Copy all the data from the Shared folder into your account - placing it neatly in folders (Documents, Music, Movies, etc.).
Once the data is moved, log into the account you want to delete just once more to make certain that you've grabbed all the data you want to keep. Log out and log back into your admin account and go to System Preferences>Users & Groups and delete the 'old' user.
That should do it.

i just bought a new macbook w/ mtn lion. when i transferred data from my old macbook over, it created another user name (i called it "old computer"). That's actually good--I'm not going to be accessing old files frequently--except for music, which i want on my new user name. How do i move files from my "old comp" account to my new one? Is there a way to easily move large #'s of files, or just one by one? I've googled extensively but can only find instructions for OSX 10.6 and previous, which talks about the "Shared folder," which I can't seem to find.

That's actually bad. Peruse Pondini's Setup New Mac guide and seriously consider starting over. -
