if i sync with ipad using pc will i lose my photos in the ipad phot library?

You won't lose photos that you've taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit or saved from emails/websites - those photos aren't affected by syncing.
If they are photos that were originally synced from a computer and this isn't the same computer, then you should be prompted as to whether you want them replacing - but there is a risk that they will be removed.

  • HT201302 When I travel with my SLR I like to transfer all photos to the iPad so that they are more easily edited and viewed by others, using the camera kit.  Occasionally I would like to export photos - I have not found a way to do this.  Can you help?

I occasionally have the need to export photos from the iPad to an SD card (photos that were imported using the camera kit). This is useful for e.g. to print photos while travelling.  So far I have not found this functionality anywhere, including in any apps available on iTunes.  Can anyone help?

The camera connection kit can only be used to import photo/video files from a camera, SD card or USB flash drive. You can't import other types of files. You can't export any type of files using the camera connection kit.

  • Yes you can use a USB drive to transfer photos to the iPad, this is how...

To transfer photos from a USB thumb drive to the iPad you need to:
    1. Plug the USB device into a Mac.
    2. Open the Disk Utility app.
    3. Pick the USB device in the left hand window.
    4. Click on the Erase tab
    5. Pick MS-DOS (FAT) and hit Erase.
    6. After the formatting is done. Click on the USB device to open it up.
    7. Make a new folder a name it DCIM (that an eye i)
    8. Drag your photos to that folder.
    9. Connect the USB kit to the iPad and plug the USB device into it...done.
Now you can on the fly transfer photos to the iPad using a USB thumb drive. No syncing to iTunes. For Windows computers use FAT-16
I've written up on how to play Flip videos on the iPad without converting the video.  Yes it can be done. I will post this later today. (I'm getting old and tend to leave out nouns, adjectives and verbs when writing. I hope you understand the above.)

I made a mistake. The one USB drive that did not work was a 4GB not 2 GB. It is formated in FAT 32. The FAT 32 format is not the issue since II have successfully connected both FAT 16 and FAT 32 formated USB drives. I think it is just too big (too many chips inside) and draws too much power.
Doing a Google search it appears that the maximum drive size with FAT 16 is 2GB (one place hinted it was 4 GB). Since many SD cards are bigger that 4 GB today they can't be FAT 16 and thus FAT 32 has to be acceptable with the CCK and the iPad..

I did this with a two year old 4 gig USB thumb drive. Did you format the drive on a Mac using the DOS format? If your on windows you need to use fat-16. If you use fat 32 or the wrong Mac format you will get an error that this device draws to much power.
I know somebody else that made this work. If you can't get it to work then it's the drive or you didn't format the drive right. You know this is a work around and work around don't always work. I posted this for the people who come into these forums looking for a fix.

  • If I restore my iPad using iTunes, will I be able to save the data on my iPad that had not been backed up?

If I restore my iPad using iTunes, will I be able to save data on my iPad that I had not backed up?

No. There will be nothing to restore without a backup. If you can  backup - meaning if the iPad is not disabled and it is still working - backup first and then restore the iPad.
Is there some reasons why you can't backup first?

  • Can I download itunes to my new mini ipad with out it automatically syncing with my windows computer. I only want it on the ipad

Can I download iTunes to my new mini ipad without it automatically syncing over to my Window vista computer. I only want tunes on my ipad I want to keep my computer separate

iTunes cannot be downloaded to an iPad.  iTunes on an iPad is already preinatalled so there's no need to download it, and on the iPad its the store access. The icon looks like this:
Why do you want to download iTunes to your iPad?
What are you aiming to accomplish?

  • I have the original ipad. I can't delete my photos from the ipad, and the new itunes update does not give me the option to sync photos. What do I do?

I have the orignal ipad. I synced all my photos from my computer onto. Now I don't have enough storage on my ipad so I want to delete these photos. When I try from my ipad it only gives me the option to share or copy, NOT DELETE. I went to resync my ipad to itunes, after I downloaded the new version and now it doesn't give me an option to sync photos. How do I get rid of them?

    Wow.  That's weird.
Is your iPad jailbroke?  If it is, all bets are off.  If it is not jailbroke, keep reading.
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

  • Tried to sync with previously used computer/itunes and lost new photos

I just synced my Iphone 4 but used my old iphone's setting (already on my computer) Now I have lost my photos from my 4... I'm not sure how to restore to how it was before I tried syncing it with my computer...

    Sue,
I recommend an external drive to maintain your music.  All your purchases are held in iCloud...so redownloading should be easy.  Also, Home sharing is a great way to transfer to a new computer, but in the case of hard drive failure your options are limited.  Home sharing is specifically for transferring to another pc.  Good luck!

  • I created a password to my iPad as a parental restriction, but my daughter played with it and pushed the wrong password 10 times my ipad was disabled, what should i do, since it wont sync with itunes becoz it will just say, cannot sync files becoz the dev

i created a password to my iPad as a parental restriction, but my daughter played with it and pushed the wrong password 10 times my ipad was disabled, what should i do, since it wont sync with itunes becoz it will just say, cannot sync files becoz the device is password enabled, Please somebody helpme

If you are talking about the passcode that gains access to the iPad - you will have to restore your iPad in order to unlock it. You will want to use the last computer that you synced with so that you can recover all of your app data, settings, etc. this explains how to restore the iPad. At the end of the process restore from your backup as described.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
If iTunes will not let you restore that way, you may need to use recovery mode to restore, and you can read about that process here.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4097
IF - you are talking about a restrictions pass code that you put on the device to restrict content or downloading apps or something like that - you do not want to restore from the backup - because that backup will contain the passcode that you cannot remember and you will end up where you started.

So what I have gleemed from this thread - is that Apple will not help me if an iPad mini is dropped and the screen breaks.  I would have lived without the insurance if I could have simply bought a new screen and then had it replaced by Apple.
On something so fragile I would have expected a piece of glass to be a replacement part. But I am glad I made this post because now I no for sure if I break the screen there is no way to have it fixed by Apple and keep it in Warranty.
Yup, kind of like anything else you accidentally break that is more cost effective to replace than to repair. Keep that iPad away from the toddler

    Hi,
You cannot manually manage music with match turned on on your iOS device. If you want to manage music manually, you will need to turn off match on your iPhone.

You should have signed in with that address in the first place, but there is a workaround: go to System preferences>Mail, Contacts@ Calendars and add your @me.com address as an account there.

I have recently begun to use Pages and want to transfer a document between the iPad and my PC. I can transfer to the iPad, but not the other way, and am told I do not have sufficient 'privileges'. What does this mean? Also I can't use iCloud with Pages between the iPad and PC,  although I purchased extra storage in order to do this.

If you have a PC, you don't have Pages on it. You can transfer Pages presentations to/from iCloud via http://www.icloud.com , however -- you just won't have an app on your PC to deal with Pages documents. Make sure that you have your iCloud account properly configured on your iPad.
