HT4236 Organize photos by name

Before itunes was updated I had my pictures in perfect order by name but when it was updated everything was mixed up and moved and I'm very upset, it should not have been bothered in the first place>:( HOW DO I GET MY PICTURES BACK INORDER????

To find your pics for uploading, select them in iPhoto. Then do File > Export > File Export to a folder on your desktop. From that folder, you can upload your pics or create a CD. Trash the folder when finished, since those pics are only copies.
To locate a photo, you can right-click its thumbnail in iPhoto and choose "Show File" from the menu. A finder window will open with the file selected.
To display your photos in iPhoto, try exploring the various view options in iPhoto. You can display your entire library chronologically by photo date. Or use the calendar icon at the bottom of the iPhoto window. You can locate photos from a specific year, month, or day with a single click inside the calendar pane.
No, you cannot change the way iPhoto 6 organizes your photos inside its library structure in Finder. It is recommended that you do not tamper with the files inside your iPhoto library folder, as you can cause iPhoto to fail or even corrupt the database.
Rolls in your library do not have to be numbered. Try View > Sort Photos > by Film Rolls to see your library displayed by film rolls. Open the info pane in the iphoto window. When you select a roll (click on the roll name) you can then edit its info in the info pane. You can move photos among rolls, combine, create, and rename your rolls. The organizing you do to your rolls will be reflected in the Finder. Just be sure to do it from within iPhoto.

  • Adding link to the photo and Name in the outlook contact card -Enterprise wide

How can I make the name and photo in the outlook contact card link to my profile page? I read articles where it is mentoined that the URL is set in Registry, currently my organization does not have any link associated with photo and name in contact card.
I want to implement this across the organization , any deployment or changes that I need to do to implement this across?
Appreciate if you can provide details on how this is done. The url will look like this:
    https://www.produrl.com/userid={userid}
How can I dynamically add respective userid in the link?Appreciate your response on this.

So you want to redesign the contact card in Outlook? Are you using SharePoint? If signed into sharepoint via the social connect, there is a link to the mysharepoint page under View source. I don't think you can change the link or customize the card,
    beyond what is listed here:

  • Mine, her's & ours – how to organize photos in a multi-Mac family?

    Hi folks,
from a quick search at Apple discussions I realize that my following problem is a very common, but essentially an unsolved one. So rather than a final solution, I'm looking for ideas and discussion on how to organize photos in a family setting…
The problem started when my wife got her own MacBook a few weeks ago, and when we started having two iPhoto libraries instead of one. We do have some photos that can be definitely labeled as 'mine' or 'hers'. But how should we organize family photos? What if one of us wanted to just grab their MacBook and show off the kids' pictures to a friend?
Duplicating photos involves a lot of manual extra work, and labels and keywords will inevitably run out of sync. If we keep photos on a network drive we can't just take them away from home. It seems like the problem is not just related to iPhoto, but to digital photography in general. Or is there another photo organizer – Aperture? Lightroom? Whatever else? – that serves families well?
If you've faced this problem, I'd like to hear how you approached it.
    cheers
    Hendrik

You could put an external HD connected to the TC. Then each time one of you take new photos upload them to a folder on your Desktop. Name the folder with the date of the shoot (this assumes that each of your delete the memory card in the camera after each shoot and upload) and a brief description like: 01/16/10-Aidan's 4th Bday Party. You can also rename the photos in the folder. I use the international date and a brief description: 2010-01-16-Aidans 4th-001.JPG, -002.JPG, etc. You an use a file renaming application likeRenamer4Mac orName Mangler to do the job.
Next import the folder into your iPhoto. This will create an Event with the same name as the folder. Then drag the folder to the hard drive on the Time Capsule. Then each of you can view the folders on the external HD and import those folders which you don't have - or not.
This will also act as a backup of the original files. I'm not sure what format the external HD needs to be to work in this manner but it shouldn't matter as long as you're only storing files. You can't run a iPhoto library from it if it isn't formatted OS X Extended (journaled). Also running a library wirelessly is fraught with problems like dropouts which can damage the database file.
That way you will have 3 backup copies of your photos - actually 2 as the two libraries on the TC really only count as one since they are on the same drive.

  • Photo file names Deleted by iPad

Asked this 3 months ago, but got no response. Can't understand what iPad does to photo file names. 1. Can't see photo file name in albums/events. 2. when iPad emails photo, the file that is received is called only La Foto (the photo, my wife uses spanish). If I send her a photo with a name I assigned (date, camera-assigned number, file size), and she saves it to an album and sends it back, the file name I sent her is gone, and photo is simply La Foto. How can you organize or keep track of photos, w/o info such as name, date, camera number, etc.? And why does iPad remove specifically created names? Nothing in Manual or Settings on this.
We've an iPad, and also a MB Air and iMac.

Thanks for your time doing the check.
I'm sorry that currently I don't have the similiar resource to do the same.
I guess that it might be the difference caused by different iOS / idevice.
I think that I'll check and modify the app after I got iOS 6 devices.
Thanks for your comments and your time.
Thanks for your reply, and I hope you get a more recent device soon for Father's/Mother's Day or whatever!  I'm a little confused as to what the situation is.  According to w'pedia the iOS 5 that you have does have photostream, but I don't know if it supports multiple streams (which you create by touching the + when in photostream).  Is the problem that your version does not support multiple streams so you can't test the issue I raised, or is it that it does support multiple streams and works correctly with iOS 5 but not with iOS 6?
PS: I've checked, and find my iPod has the same limitation as I mentioned above with the iPad.

iMessage on MacBook Pro shows i'm my friend. My friend's photo and name shows in every conversation instead of mine. How do I fix this?

I am using my own Apple ID.  (My father doesn't even have one).  I seem to recall having to select a contact or something to assign to my iMessage app when I used it the first time on my iPad.  I checked the settings and it is set to my apple ID and correct email address.  Any other ideas?

  • Best way to organize photos and home video

Looking for the optimum way to organize photos and home videos. Goal is to have all devices have equal access to all the media. Just as important is for this to be as easy as possible to maintain and use.
Have an iMac with iTunes and iPhoto
Have multiple iOS devices with different family members each of whom take photos and videos with their devices
    Have multiple Apple TVs
iMac will be the hub with wifi synching
Right now about 30,000 files probably 1000 are videos (and growing)
I don't do any editing of photos or videos
Current set up is through iPhoto. I am importing all images not using the reference option. This worked fine until we started taking more videos which made for a large 200gb iPhoto library which barely loads even with 16gb ram.
I want to use iPhoto not iTunes because I keep everything organized by event, that includes photos and videos. And I don't want 2 separate organizing options to keep track of.
Most of my library is also available outside of iPhoto, I have a back up so I could use the reference feature of iPhoto which would mean a smaller library. However we use photostream on all iOS devices which has the feature that automatically imports into iPhoto. So I don't have to worry about those photos - it's easy. But then i would have some media copied into the library and some referenced. This doesn't work for videos so I will need to copy them.
I have a copy of iPhoto library manager software which could solve the excessive library size. That's cumbersome because I have to sync the correct library with the iOS devices and also make sure photostream is In the right library. I have only used this software a little so I could be wrong about this solution.
I appreciate any ideas that might work. Of course let me know if I am missing something, I am sure I am.
Would Aperture be a better solution? Some other software?

1 - do not change to a referenced library with iPhoto - it has many problems and should not be done - if you switch to Aperture it is ok - Aperture handles referenced libraries fine
2 - iPhoto does not load your entire library and while 200 GB is large it is not giant and is not causing you an problems - if you ave problems please describe them and  will try to help with thme -it is not libary size - My library is 263 GB and I have 8GB of RAM and there are no issues
3 - not sure what your constraints are but for me having all IOS devices logged into iCoud using the same Apple ID work best - the downside is that we all see the same things - which is our desire and I think yours

  • How do I change a photo file name, e.g. DSC001, etc.?

When I either import or download digital images into IPhoto, I need to change the filename in some instances.  Using the Information feature in IPhoto, I give the photo a name or identifier and add other information.  However, when I then burn the photo to a CD, the original filename, e.g. DSC001, etc. shows up.  How can I change it?

    Aaron Marquez wrote:
    This isn't true.
Select the photo, then Press Command + I or go to View > Info and double click the photo filename to rename it.
    Best,
    Aaron
That does NOT change the file name and does not help (Unless you use the option to use the title for the file name during export) - You can not change the file name while the photo is in iPhoto (unless you do so using the finder awhick will corrupt your library and cause data loss)

Which Icons are these?  Are you talking about the thumbnails?  If so then you need to do this:
    View >> Media Types
Now look for something like in this picture (click on on it to get a bigger picture) make sure there are ticks next to all of them except the Video unless you want videos to show up as well.
Good luck and post back if this did not solve the problem.

You edit the name in the Corkboard view.

  • Sort photos by name

Not sure what I'm missing here.
Basically I had a project full of photos imported from a camera, and also some others added from photostream from my iPhone.
I have now added the photostream in iyts entirity, thinking I would be able to order the photos by name and go through and remove duplicates from the project.
By default, Aperture has added the recently added photos from photostream after all the photos that were already there.
I thought to reorder I just had to Right Click the project name, then select Keep Arranged By > Name.
    Bu this isn't doing anything.
I've tried selecting all the photos I want to sort, then trying.
I've tried creating an Album in the Project, but still no joy.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

The Keep arranged by that you get when you right click a project actually has to do with how folders and albums in that project are arranged when you look at them in the Library tab of the inspector. It doe not apply to the images in the project.
To sort the images in the project open a browser on the project and use the  sort pulldown.

  • How do I sort photos by name after newest update?

I downloaded the newest iTunes update last week and now al my photos on my iPad are in chronological order. I prefer my photos in name order because I have specific order I want to view them in. Is there anyway to fix this? It's so frustrating!

I think that this is an issue for a lot of people.  This is the third thread I have seen on this topic today. It appears that the latest update to iTunes "Broke" this option and we are stuck with chronologicl order rather then alpha order.
This is why I bought Photo Manager Pro.  Well worth the couple of bucks I spent on it.  It allows you to create folders, import pictures into the folders and then sort them however you want to and they seem to stay sorted that way even when iTunes or iOS changes.
You might submit a feedback report, http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html to let the software engineers know that this has become a problem for you.

  • Cannot sort photos by name

I just upgraded to OS X 10.10.3 with the new Photos app. It seems that Apple left out the ability to sort photos by name. I have thousands of scanned photos -- some going back to the 1800s -- so sorting by date (which essentially is the scan date) does not make any sense. Using iPhoto, I named the photos with the date in yyyy-mm-dd format and sorted on name to get the photos in the proper sequence. On some of the photos, I could only determine the year, so that's all that was used in the naming. Sorting should be available on a variety for fields in the photos -- both ascending and descending.

It's easier to use 3rd party apps like Photo Manager Pro. You can drag the photos around like the way you do with apps.

  • Organize Photos

    Hello everybody,
My Macbook Pro is a little bit slow (since I updated to Mavericks....) so I searched what I can do to make it a bit faster...
And while searching I thought I could also tidy up my Mac, even though this won't help a lot..
So I started deleting photos (76 GB photos -> 48000 photos!) and I noticed that iPhoto saves my photos after importing too, so I have the orginals and the iPhoto version. That's not a very big problem when you have 400 photos... but I have like 20000?! so... I thought about deleting the photos I don't need in iPhoto and delete all the Orignials..
After deleting all the photos I didn't need in iPhoto, I started to figure out that I have more photos, photos which aren't in iPhoto.. even THAT is not a big big problem... I could just put them in and sort them... not a big deal...
but then, I looked in the folder of iPhoto (iPhoto Media Centre-> Masters, that's where it saves my photos) and all the photos I deleted in iPhoto are still there...
Does anybody know this situation and knows what I could do!?
I can't just delete the Orginals because that's very much work for deleting all the photos I don't need out of the folders and sort all the iPhoto photos complete new....
and I can't delete the iPhoto Media Centre too, because all the photos of my iPhone are there and nowhere else...
Does anybody have an idea for me!?

Organizing Your iPad Photos Using A PC
If you are a PC user then you do not have iPhoto and it is very confusing to people who see commercials or watch the Apple tutorials because these are all based on using a Mac and iPhoto to organize photos.  So, for the PC users out there, here are some tips to help you better organize your photos before you sync them with the iPad. For Windows PC’s Photo albums of photos already on the PC:
Create a master sync folder on your PC with no photo files at the root level of the folder.
Create sub-folders within the master sync folder with the sub-folders named what you want the iPad’s photo albums to be named. This can be an event, a place, a vacation, or anything else that identifies this group of photos.
Place the photo files you want to sync in the appropriate sub-folder within the master sync folder.
In iTunes on the photos tab, select the master folder as the sync folder.
After syncing, each subfolder will be an album on the ipad with the proper photos contained therein
