HT4241 HDMI displayport

my hdmi display port was working just fine and then all of the sudden just stopped working. Has this happened to anyone else and if so what do i do to fix it?

I believe the 2010 and newer ones support audio through the HDMI cable. Earlier MBPs will require one to tap the audio output port and run separate wires to the RCA audio input connectors on the TV.  Also you might check your Sony user manual to make certain that you have it set up correctly as well as the MBP.
Ciao.

  • [SOLVED] Only HDMI/Displayport audio outputs; no sound from speakers

I have a Dell XPS14 running Arch, which has worked fine for a while, but now has suddenly stopped detecting the internal speakers and headphones, so it will not play sound.   I have tried a few things to narrow down the problem, but I've had no luck so far.  In GNOME shell, when I press the physical volume up/down buttons on my laptop, it displays a sound icon with "HDMI / DisplayPort" underneath . When I go into the gnome shell audio settings menu, everything is greyed out, and no output devices are listed.
If anyone has any suggestions as to what the problem might be or how I might go about troubleshooting it from here, I would appreciate it.
One thing that struck me was that I had installed a music player, Clementine, recently, and I'm not sure if I did or did not ever have sound after that. I installed Clementine and two optional gstreamer0.10 plugins (bad and ugly). Since this seemed like it would be possibly related, I've since removed Clementine, the new gstreamer plugins, and all of their dependencies not needed by any other package. So I now don't think that is likely to be the problem. Just to be thorough, though, here are the packages which were installed:

Thanks again for the info and suggestions.  I thought the same thing regarding the sparse output of alsamixer, but since I never had trouble with the sound before, I don't know how much would have shown up when everything was working well.
I still haven't really found a smoking gun here, unfortunately.  As far as I can tell, the power saving settings look about right, because the power saving settings for the HDMI audio (which works) looks to be the same as the others.
Thanks for the link with more information regarding the module options for the intel sound driver.  I'm going to dig into those when I have time next week.  The thing that makes me less optimistic that I'm going to fix it with module options is that I can't figure out how those module options would suddenly change.
I'm also going to try out the linux-lts kernel to see if it behaves any differently, and then maybe boot another distro with a usb key to see if it works, and if so, what looks different.
Here's what I get from the suggested tests. Let me know if anyone sees something strange that I missed.

  • 27" iMac, HDMI/DisplayPort adaptor, LCD TV as an output monitor

I'd like to know few things before I dive into the world of FCP/FCE.
Is it possible to set your Samsung 52" Hi-def LCD TV to act as your output monitor (or secondary screen however you call it) from the DisplayPort on the 27" iMac? If so, how do you set it up?
Basically I'd like to view what I'm working on the FCP out to the 52" TV as if I'm watching the HD cable TV.
I already bought the HDMI/DisplayPort adaptor (1080p) made by Kanex. It's also designed to carry digital audio through the USB.
I did manage to duplicate the Mac's desktop on the TV but the image quality wasn't what I'd expect from the 1080p HD. I am using the hackable Panasonic GH1 camera.
Anyway I did try to set it up for the iMovie but couldn't.
I went to a few Apple Stores nearby but no one could answer my question.
    I'd appreciate your expertise.
    Thanks.

The display port sends out a COMPUTER signal. Even if you convert it to HDMI, it is still a computer signal, and not a VIDEO signal. Different characteristics. And the computer image isn't the proper gamma, it doesn't show interlacing properly among other things.
For proper video monitoring, like you'd see it on your TV from the cable service, you need an HD Input/Output device, like Matrox, AJA, Decklink, MOTU. Unfortunately with an iMac, your choices are VERY limited, if they work at all. The MOTU V4HD is your only option, as it uses a firewire interface, and doesn't take over the FW bus (Unlike the AJA IO HD).
What you have might be fine just to see things bigger, but not good for any critical judging of your image.

  • [SOLVED] kms for intel does not recognize hdmi/displayport

    Hi,
I updated yesterday my laptop, which has a intel gpu coming with the Core-I5 chipset (not the HD one).
With the new kernel 3.6.10, it does not detect any hdmi/displayport ouput anymore. VGA and LVDS are just fine and also the modes which are detected are correct.
First difference is also, that when the external hdmi display is connected also during startup, usually the framebuffer is visible on both LVDS and HDMI but not anymore.
The log output does not look too bad:

  • HT4241 HDMI cables for Macbook 13" duo core 2006

    Hi,
Firstly apologies if this question has been previously answered.  However I have been trawlling the internet for ages trying to find out the correct cables to set up a macbook to an HD tv.  All I want to do is connect two devices but everything I read seems to be about macbook pro 2009 onwards - what about those of us you have older macs?
Sometime ago I was given as a present an iwires mini display to hdmi cable set.  On the box it said suitable for Macbook pre 2010.  My Macbook is a 13" duo core 2006 . Anyway the cable didn't fit and because the package had been opened couldn't get a refund.
Please can anyone in simple terms tell me which HDMI cables I need to connect to the tv so that I get both audio and video.
    many thanks.
    princesspeach

The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 model 6,1 and Mid 2010 model 7,1 White Unibody have a Mini DisplayPort. The Early 2006 model 1,1 through Early 2008 model 4,1s plus the Early and Mid 2009 model 5,2s have Mini-DVI ports. Each would take a different adapter to connect with the TV.
You'll need a Mini-DVI to HDMI adapter and a cable from that to your TV. Here's the various types of Mini-DVI adapters on Amazon.com  http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_2_16?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keyword s=mini+dvi+to+hdmi+adapter&sprefix=mini+dvi+to+hdmi%2Caps%2C264
You'll also need audio cables to the TV using a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack to RCA sound plugs or a 3.5mm stereo input plug for audio. You attach it from the headphone jack of your MacBook to the appropriate audio input plugs on your TV.
If you connect the MacBook using a Mini-DVI to HDMI adapter you will probably need to use external speakers or a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack to RCA sound plugs connected to a stereo system for audio if your TV doesn't have separate RCA input plugs or a 3.5mm stereo input plug for audio with the HDMI plug. The Mini-DVI to HDMI doesn't carry audio and there're no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with the HDMI. Check your TV manual though to see if it might have audio plugs that work with one of the HDMI ports.

  • HT4241 HDMI hooked in, picture great, but no sound?

I have an hdmi cable hooked up from my mac to the tv. I can get picture but I cannot get sound. Can someone tell me if there is a setting I need to change and where is it?

    Mary,
What year is your MBP? Prior to 2010 they didn't carry audio over HDMI. You can get around it by using a separate cable from your headphone jack to audio in on the TV.

  • [GTX770]No display output HDMI/Displayport when booting

I've recently upgraded to an Haswell setup with a MSI Z97 pc mate and MSI GTX770. The card seems to work fine when I use DVI output. However, when i try to use either hdmi or displayport I only get display output once i'm in windows. The bios and booting process give no output on either connection.
Is there something wrong with the GFX card, is there some bios setting i can try?

Thanks for the quick reply. Will this GOP UEFI bios make Displayport work on boot?
    don't know, maybe

I've never heard of GOP UEFI bios, so I don't have a clue what advantages I get with that.
its related to Win8 features, ultra fast boot and so on if you decide to use such

  • HT4241 HDMI adapter problem

i have an HDMI cable connected to my late 2011 macbook pro using a Rocketfish RF-AP305 mini display port adapter i plugged it all in to my 47 inch LG lcd tv but its not working i have searched all over the web but ihavnt found anything that helps so please help me

If you've an HDMI port on your television, you could always try that.
I've used this adapter from Monoprice successfully - not bad for under $7.
Give your TV a try - if no go, then you'll know that it's an adapter problem.
    Good luck,

  • VGA and HDMI DisplayPort Adapter stoped work on Mountain Lion

    Hardware: MBP early 2011
    With Mountain Lion 10.8.0
    My HDMI adapter stoped working.
    With Mountain Lion 10.8.1
Both HDMI and VGA adapter stoped working

I found a solution to this problem!
Download the driver that's mentioned at the link below and follow username "asabaraba's" instructions. It involves ditching the RaLink wireless utility and using a compatible DLink one.

  • HT4241 Hdmi flickering issues.

My HDMI adaptor is constantly flickering! Please help! My hdmi adaptor used to work fine, I have tried different adaptors, different displays different hdmi cables with no luck, my brothers macbook still works fine! please help thanks. I have searched for a firmware update but Im not good at navigating around this site. dont seem to be having any luck!

    Welcome to the forum.
I've got one question, regarding this statement,
But when the edited file is exported and viewd on TV screen, I notice flickering issues when we have fast movement camera or people.
How are you displaying the AV on the TV? Are you going to a DVD/BD, or is the TV hooked up to the computer?
There might be some Interlacing issues, and some improvement might be possible, but like John T. states, MPEG is not an ideal source to begin with, due to the heavy compression. If you then go to DVD, you are compressing yet again, and what you see is an artifact of the multiple compression used.
Good luck, and let us know more details about your display/delivery.

  • HT4241 HDMI sound problems?

I have a Macbook Pro and am trying to connect it to my tv. The video is there, but no sound is coming up. I go to the system preferences, then sound, and there is no option to choose my TV as the audio output. Any help? Thanks!

Did you select the TV as the sound output device (System Preferences > Sound > Output > {your TV})?
Sorry, can't help with YouTube versus VLCplayer.

  • DisplayPort to HDMI adapter NOT WORKING!!!!

I have tried and tried and can't get this working. I'm on a T500 and running Windows 7. The T500 just doesn't recognize the external monitor when I have the displayport to hdmi adapter plugged in and an hdmi cable running from that to the external monitor.
    HELP PLEASE???

I don't have the same ThinkPad as you (I have a T410 with discrete graphics), but I DO have the same Monoprice DisplayPort to DVI adapter, and I can confirm that it does work, when connected via a DVI cable to a Viewsonic LCD monitor.  I did notice that, when the monitor goes into power-saving/sleep mode, the laptop won't recognize it when the laptop resumes from sleep.  I had to toggle the monitor power swtich off/on, and then select it with the laptop's Fn-F7 hotkey (the laptop utility calls it a "projector").  So, you might have to fiddle with that.
By the way, my 19-inch Viewsonic LCD shows just how crummy the ThinkPad's LCD is, by comparison.  The image via DisplayPort/DVI is fantastic.  The NVIDIA control panel confirms that the ThinkPad<-->dongle<-->DVI cable<-->monitor connection supports HDCP, by the way, so it'll play protected content.
When I get around to it, I will also try plugging the ThinkPad into my TV via the similar MonoPrice HDMI / DisplayPort dongle.

  • How do i connect my hp 610-1130a to my tv as a second monitor. i only have hdmi inputs on my compute

How do I connect my computer to my TV as a second moniter. I have a HP 610-1130a touch screen running windows 7.
It has 2 HDMI in ports.

Here are the specs for your HP TouchSmart 610-1130a Desktop Computer. You are correct in stating that it has 2 HDMI inputs... these inputs are used for connecting devices like XBox, PS3, DVD payer, Blu-Ray player, etc., so that you can watch/play them on your computer screen. Your computer, in fact, doesn't have a video output of any kind (VGA, DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort, etc.). You will need to purchase a USB-to-video adapter such as the EVGA UV Plus+ UV39 to use your TV as a monitor.
Please note that if you wish to "extend" your Windows "desktop" to your TV, you will need to disable the touchscreen as issues controlling the cursor will occur. If you wish to "copy" or "duplicate" the image on your computer to the TV, the touchscreen should function as normal.
