HT4260 Airport in Bridge Mode - can you use its ethernet to connect other devices?

If I buy a 2nd Airport Extreme to set up in bridge mode via ethernet, can I then connect other devices, such as a Roku or Apple TV via ethernet to that 2nd Airport? I prefer using a wired connection for Roku as wireless is very wonky most of the time. Will that work?

Yes you can ofourse but dont be in idea that logging will be mininal. Loggign will be as per recovery model full. Every thing will be logged. If you are going to use bulk insert task you can consider switching recovery model to Bulk logged but you will not
have option to do point in time recovery.

If you read first Note section in below link it clearly states that yes logging will be full and you can use

More than likely this is NOT possible since most Belkin routers are NOT compatible with Apple's WDS.
However if you are using a Belkin F5D7230-4 or F5D7231 you might be able to get it to work. You need to configure the Belkin and the AirPort Express (AX) to connect wirelessly using WDS. Only then is the AX's Ethernet port enabled.

A: You bet. Attached find a text file with some code from the example I showed
today, a version of the multipleSayHiTo() method that has a parameter of an Array
of Person objects rather than a parameter of an Array of Strings. The code within
the text file comes from the Greeting.jws file (the Greeting Web Service).

So you are saying that the recovery discs I made do include the copy of windows that was originally installed?
Absolutely! They will restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents. Follow the instructions in the section Restoring from recovery DVDs/media, which begins on p. 73 of the User's Guide.

maybe i can make a deal with wd to have them swap this drive out for the BEKT instead...
That would be a good idea in any case.
As I said, the 10-fc12-045d error would not be due to the drive's being AFT, but more likely the discs are not being read properly. New discs can be obtained from Toshiba. Scroll down to Get Recovery Media here

  • I have an old airport that still works, can you use it the same way that one uses an airport express to extend the range of an airport extreme base station?

It would save me a few bucks if I could use an old airport that I have to extend the range of a new airport extreme.  My concept would simply be to use the old Airport the same way I would use a newer Airport Express as a slave repeater.  Is this doable?

Both the new AirPort Extreme and older AirPort Express will have to be configured using Apple's WDS settings to provide more wireless coverage.
    Here are the downsides:
WDS operates only at "g" wireless speeds, so you will lose all of the faster "n" wireless capability of the new AirPort Extreme
WDS cuts the bandwidth on the entire network in half, so you will have a "g" wireless network running at half speed.
WDS is difficult for most users to configure because it is easy to make a mistake and hard to recover without starting all over again
Bottom line......Saving a few bucks will be very costly in terms of performance on your network.

  • IPS Inline Interface Mode - Can you use a port-channel?

    Hi,
I'm trying to determine if you can have a 2-gig Layer-3 Port-channel going thru an IPS 4260 appliance. See attached diagram. Is this possible?
The client I'm working with would prefer not to break this Port-channel into equal-cost 1-gig links (I don't think there will be any performance difference...) However I'm thinking if they want the appliance inline like the diagram shows - they will need to break the port-channel. Is that a correct assumption?
    Thanks,
    Brad

    Yes this is possible.
It will require 2 InLine Interface Pairs on the sensor and both pairs should be added into the same Virtual Sensor.
The 4260 will not be aware that etherchannels are used on both sides, and does not need to be aware.
This may, however, require manual enablement of the etherchannels.
Also keep in mind that the performance in this setup will be limited to what the IPS-4260 is able to perform with that traffic.
If the IPS is only able to monitor 1 Gbps (which is its rating for Transactional traffic tests), then having the 2 InLine Interface Pairs will not give them any more performance than a single pair would.
If the IPS is able to monitor more than 1Gbps of their traffic (it is rated at 2Gbps for Media Rich tests), then the additional pair will allow the sensor to get to the above 1 Gbps monitoring.
If the 4260 is not able to keep with the traffic, then an upgrade to a 4270 using the same deployment setup may be necessary.
NOTE: This also assumes that only the left or right path are actively passing traffic at any one time. If both paths are passing traffic, then asymmetric traffic patterns can result. if asymmetric traffic is seen, then another deployment should be considered, or specifial configuration be placed on the sensors.
NOTE: This setup only works when a single sensor is used within the etherchannel. (1 sensor on each etherchannel, 2 sensors in your diagram because you have 2 etherchannels).
You can not place 2 sensors in the same etherchannel (would mean 4 sensors in your diagram).
This is because the balancing being done from the lower switch can not be guaranteed to match that being done from the top switch. A mismatch in balancing could lead to asymmetric patterns.
With a single sensor, the same virtual sensor sees all traffic regardless of which interface the packet comes in on, so a single sensor is fine. But with 2 sensors, the client traffic might get sent to a different sensor than the server traffic.

  • Can you use aircards on more than one device?

I'm asking for a friend of mine who has a Verizon aircard for his laptop.  His wife now has a netbook and they want to know if they can us his aircard in her netbook?  I tried to tell them how to setup a wireless hotspot, but neither of these people are that knowledge of computers much less setting up wireless networks.  So when he isn't using the card, she wants to be able to plug it in her netbook and go online.
    Thanks!

I hope you are using the correct terminology in your question.  To clarify, an aircard could be a USB modem which can only connect to one computer at a time.  There are no restrictions on the number of computers you connect to the USB modem, but only one can connect at a time by design.  A netbook is a special computer designed in partnership with Verizon to have a wireless modem built into it.  There should be no need to use an additional USB modem with a netbook.
    Verizon Netbooks:
    http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/controller?&item=phoneFirst&action=viewPhoneOverviewByDevice&deviceCategoryId=7
If you want to be able to connect multiple computers to a single USB modem then you will need a special router such as those provided by CradlePoint.  CradlePoint routers have a special USB port on them which allows them to connect directly to the USB modem and rebroadcast that signal to multiple computers.  Check the statistics on the router before you purchase to make sure your USB modem is supported.
Here is a link to display many of the possible CradlePoint routers:

She installed it, created an apple id, but it tells her that she needs an os device to use icloud. Is this correct? Does she need to have an os device?
And if not, what might be the potential problem? I know that I can send her a url of my calendar but it is read-only. I would like her to have full access to the calendar thru icloud.

what if i have an account already, but i forgot my password and reset it?? it tells me the same message that i should use an IOS device.

  • Can you transfer your game status to other devices

we have an ipod touch generation 4 and want to transfer game levels to the ipad mini.  Is that possible or do we have to start over?

It's possible if you restore the Mini from a backup of the Touch. Remember that if you do this, you restore everything in the Touch backup to the iPad Mini. You cannot just restore app data, or camera roll photos - its all or nothing.

  • Port forwarding for Mac that shares internet to Airport in bridge mode?

I use Air Video server, which allows me to stream movies from my Mac to my iPhone or iPad. It sits on port 45631 and that's closed.
I recently moved from NYC to CO, and because of my cable modem not being compatible with my older Airport router, I must use my Mac Pro to forward my Internet service from one Ethernet port to another - so that my older Airport Extreme can then broadcast wirelessly.
Since I use the AirPort in bridge mode, and the Mac is forwarding the connection - how do I forward the port so Air Video can send through to the internet?
thanks for ANY help, I'm a bit lost here

  • Can you use airport extreme as a bridge to netgear wdnr4500 wireless router

can you use airport extreme as a bridge with a netgear  wndr4500 router.I need to extend my wireless connections to the other side of the house

can you use airport extreme as a bridge with a netgear  wndr4500 router.
This is extremely unlikely. The AirPort Extreme can provide this function with other Apple routers, but as far we know, it is not compatible with products from other manufacturers for this purpose.
Suggest that you use a Netgear product for the best chance of compatibility.

  • Airport in Bridge mode "not a supported format." Are you F'n kidding me?

Forgive me if I'm freakin' a bit but I am at my wits end with Apple. Here's the breakdown.
Fiber DSL into a standard wired 4 port D-Link router. Router is connected to HP 24 port switch because the D-Link does not have enough ports for my house. Switch feeds cat5 to all rooms in the house. Airport Extreme (newest version) is in living room and set to Bridge mode. I use it to connect multiple items in my entertainment area and wireless access for the Macbooks and iPhones.
Up to a few weeks ago I was connecting my iMac via wireless but got sick of the connection dropping (pings would be unresponsive for minutes on end). I ended up moving my desk and plugging into a cat5 port on the wall. Well guess what... it's still dropping. OK, I removed everything from the network and started adding things one at a time over the past few days. Everything was running better than ever until I plugged the Airport back into the network. Mind you, I'm not running my iMac into the Airport, it is simply on the same network.
After shaking my head for a while I called Apple. Well I just got off the phone w/ Tier 3 tech support for the Airport Extremes. I tell them that I have no idea why, but I'm only dropping connections when the Airport is on the network and I'm just curious if there is something in the settings that I'm missing. This is where it gets good... The brilliant Tier 3 "Technician" tells me that I am running an unsupported configuration because the Airport is running in bridge mode and it's attached to a wired router across the house. He says that if the D-Link router was also wireless he could help me. I asked what the difference was if it was wired or wireless but all he could say was he couldn't help me because it was a unsupported configuration.
So - I'm ready to send all my CrApple gear to some poor kids on the other side of the world. Anyone have any ideas here?

I'm reading the original post with the understanding that the AirPort Extreme is connected by ethernet to the network and the replies indicate that as well.
Are you saying that if the Extreme is in bridge mode connected by ethernet that the ports are not active?
Not at all. What I was trying to say was that the connection from the Extreme to the internet must go through the WAN port, not a LAN port. In a large network, this can happen unintentionally. For instance, suppose a client has Internet sharing enabled and is connected wirelessly to the Extreme and by Ethernet to another router. Then the internet connection from the other router would be shared with the entire subnet, including the Extreme through its LAN port. This could cause problems with the network.
However, with the network setup Jerastan describes, this does not seem to be the cause.
