    No, it is not.
EOL should end with iOS 4.2

  • So you cant update the 2nd Generation ipod touch anymore?

So you cant update the 2nd Generation ipod touch anymore?

I must voice my total dissatisfaction here.
My iPod touch 2nd gen is less than 3 years old - it can't run the latest iOS, My G5 tower at home can't run the latest OS. I am a .mac user (I have been since it started) but I can't migrate to iCloud and the .mac service is being deprecated. Everything is considered too old to update.
Well - I can update in fact - if I buy a new Mac and a new iPod. This means essentially throwing away my old Apple hardware (again - I have 8 old Macs in the basement). I'm pretty sick of finding myself in this situation. I run both Macs and PCs - one of my development PCs here is still running WIndows 98 very well!
So what I am likely to do is cancel all my Apple services and mothball all my Apple products, as I can't really afford the luxury of upgrading all my hardware (over £2500) just so my calendars and contacts will sync across my devices. I'm likely to migrate to Windows to do this. Painful.
Shameful behaviour from Apple in this age of concern over excess consumption and excess waste production. You've lost (another) long-term Apple devotee and evangelist.

  • How do you update the 2nd generation ipod touch to get IOS 4.3?

My niece sold me her second generation ipod touch so I could give it to my five-year old for christmas. I was so excited to give it to him, until I tried to start loading apps.  It kept saying that I needed IOS 4.3.  How do I get that on this ipod?  This was going to be his BIG gift because obviously I don't want to buy a five-year old a brand new ipod touch.  I will be so upset and disappointed if I can't use this...

Sorry, the 2nd generation iPod Touch can not be upgraded beyond iOS 4.2.1.

  • Do they still sell the 2nd generation ipod nanos ?

I was just wondering whether or not they still sell the 2nd generation ipod nanos. i live in Canada and ive been wanting a red ipod nano for ages...and my silver one is now starting to skip. i might as well get a new one seeing as my silver one has been through alot of rough times...
If they are still selling them, do they have the red ones in Canada? If so, where can i get one?

They have refurbs on the online store, but not the red. You might try stores in your area that sell iPods, ebay, or if you are near an Apple Store check the Black Friday sale.

  • ITunes is getting my brother's 2nd generation iPod mixed up with mine!

I got a 1st Generation iPod Nano for Christmas last year. It has been working great, and I've experienced few problems. For Christmas this year, my brother got the 2nd Generation iPod Nano. We both have seprate iTunes libraries in our seprate accounts on the computer. I was uploading songs from his library onto his iPod for him. As soon as iTunes said "Okay to disconnect" I did so, and then closed out of iTunes, logged off his account, and signed onto mine. I opened my iTunes, and plugged in my iPod, and where the summary of the iPod showed up, it said "Erich's iPod" instead of mine. I thought this was strange so I clicked it, and all of my brothers library was replacing mine on my iPod! I unplugged my iPod and checked it. It still had the name I had given it, but iTunes had it all mixed up. Is there anything I can do to make sure only my library is uploaded onto my iPod when i plug it in, and make sure that my iPod is recognized instead of my brother's?

  • HT1353 I have the 2nd generation IPOD touch.  I have always been able to use apps such as Facebook and Pinterest.  However now it says I must have IOS 4.3 update requirement bit when I check for updates on ITunes when hooked up to computer says updates co

My IPod touch 2nd generation always was fine with apps such as Facebook and Pinterest but now they say it needs updates IOS 4.3 but when hooked up says updates are complete and now I can't use some apps like Facebook.

To my knowledge the second gen iPod touch cannot update past 4.2.1.  App developers are probably requiring newer versions of iOS for their newest apps.  Sorry, but your device is becoming incompatible.

  • How can a 2nd generation iPod Touch access the Cloud?

I am a MobileMe user with a 2nd generation iPod Touch and a Macbook. I do not have an iPhone. I have upgraded iTunes to 10.5 and want to upgrade my iPod Touch to ios5 so I can be ready to switch to the cloud when MobileMe expires for my email, calendars, contacts, etc.—but nothing happens when I plug the iPod Touch into my computer. Can I download ios5 some other way? If not, how will I be able to access the Cloud when MobileMe quits?

You can only upgrade 3rd Generation and 4rth generation iPod touches to IOS-5, sorry, see this page on the compatability: http://www.apple.com/ios/features.html

  • Is there a reason why you cannot update further than a 4.2.1 on the 2nd generation ipod touch?

I have an iPod touch that is 2nd Generation. I have seen that you cannot update past a 4.2.1. I want to know why. Why can you not update further?
I feel many Apple users get very disappointed in the way the system works. They pay so much for the products and it only gets them so far. it is ridiculous.
I will NOT proceed to buy Apple products if I am going to continue to be disappointed when promised so much.

I understand where you're coming from. It's really frustrating, because without the latest iOS version its hard to get practically every app because Apple says that the iPod's version is incompatible or that we don't have the newest version. It hard because I feel like I'm not getting the most out of my iPod. But maybe Apple will be able to fix things later on down the road.

  • Can a 2nd Gen iPod Touch update to the 4.2 os?

I have been trying to update for two days now (not counting my various attempts over the past few months) and I'm getting absolutely nowhere.
iTunes tells me that I need to move stuff from my iPod to the library - which I can't seem to do, so I hit 'Continue.' I then get the 'Back-up' bar - which goes for a while, and then goes blank. No movement at all.
I stopped the back-up, because I was going home for the day. Today, Same thing. It says 'backing up' but doesn't actually do anything.
So, about 30 minutes ago, I tried to restore it. The bar at the top of iTunes says that it's 'Backing up iPod Touch' but the bar hasn't moved past an 8th of an inch since it started. Where it says 'Version' I have a message that states, iTunes is preparing to restore the software on this iPod.'
Should I even be bothering with this? Is my iPod just too old (almost 2 years) to be able to install this upgrade?
(All of this started when my Nike+ sensor stopped working. Bought a brand new one, and still nothing. I just didn't see a Nike+ forum in the area of iPod Touch usage.)
Thank you for any and all help!

Well, reinstalling didn't work. And what I found out this past weekend is that I cannot access the iTunes store through the device. I can use the apps I have just fine, but when I tried to update the 6 apps that have new versions (and hopefully download the apps I recently purchased), I can't get there. Am I just going to have to suck it up and send it out to be restored?

  • 2nd Generation ipod touch update question

I have a 2nd gen. ipod touch running software version 2.2.1. I would like to update to 4.2.1 but it won't let me. What can I do?

    Error 1 or -1
This may indicate a hardware issue with your device. Follow Troubleshooting security software issues, and restore your device on a different known-good computer. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
The "device may need service" means a hardware problem. in that case make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Will Apple someday make iOS5 available to the 2nd generation iPod Touch?

I know that iOS5 will only be available to 3rd and 4th generation iPod Touches. Is it possible that Apple can develop a slightly down-graded version that has some of the new features so that users with 1st and 2nd generations can enjoy them?

I believe the "slightly down-graded" version of iOS 5 would be iOS 3 or iOS 4.

  • 2nd Generation Ipod touch update to ios 4.3

Recently my ipod had frozen so i reset it.  After i finished i re downloaded the main apps that i use.  How ever when i tried to download the apps skype and kik a notification came up saying that this app requires ios 4.3.  I have been browsing the web and it says that 2nd g ipods cannot download ios 4.3 or higher.  When I try to download it it says that it is up to date (4.2.1).  This is making me really upset because i had purchased some other apps, (the apps requiew ios 4.3 also).  Since i cannot download these apps i have wasted around $50 on apps i can no longer use.  Any suggestions would be appreciated:)  Thanks

The 2nd gen can not download ios4.3. Ios 4.2.1 is as far as it goes. if you dont like that the developers of those app choose not to support it then email them
