    iPad Air AV Adaptor
I used to be able to connect my iPad 3 to any TV using either the 30 pin to AV adaptor or HDMI adaptor. I could mirror, watch Netflix or Hulu, and Videos. Now I have an iPad Air and nothing works. I tried a 30 pin to lightning adaptor and the first thing I noticed was that Apples own adaptor does not work with their own Smart Cover, the end is too fat. So, I popped the cover off and connected the adaptor. I first tried it with my Apple AV adaptor, no output. The I tried the HDMI adaptor, no output. When traveling, I like to connect my iPad to the hotel TV, using either option. What a step backwards for Apple. Accessories not working together, accessories not working! Any body else having this problem?

I see that chart, and yes, it does say that. I guess I will try that $49 item. Still, it does not fit with Apples own Smart Cover on. Still a bad on Apples part.

You only need a plug adapter, your Apple charger works internationally. You can buy most plug adapter from airport store or electronic store.

  • Charging an iPad Air in the US via a plug adapter

    Hello everyone,
I have a question about charging my European-bought iPad Air in the US.
I am using the original iPad Cable and a socket adapter from SKROOS to charge my iPad and I've noticed that it takes much longer to charge the device compared to Europe. To illustrate I left it completely discharge and then plugged it in in airplane mode and after 4 hours the battery is only 50% full. I do not have another cable to try charging it with, but I've tried two different sockets (at home and at work) and in both cases it takes longer than usual. Hence, I was wondering if taking longer to charge is normal given that I'm using a socket adapter.
Any advice on how to improve the battery charging? Would it be OK if I bought a US charger from Apple? From what I understand my EU-device should hadle the voltage?!
    Great many thanks!
    Robert

All Apple chargers work from 100-240VAC, 50-60Hz power. All you will need is a plug adapter for the country you are in.
See the various plug configurations for different countries at http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4341
Using US power vs European power shouldn't make a difference.
Try this first -  Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. In rare instances when using the Camera Connection Kit, you may notice that iPad does not charge after using the Camera Connection Kit. Disconnecting and reconnecting the iPad from the charger will resolve this issue.

  • IPad Air Charger Question

Hello! I just bought an iPad Air and it came with a 10W Power Brick. It charges pretty slowly. From what I've read I thought they came with a 12W brick. What do I need t odo?

From the online Apple store's iPad Air item page Frequently Asked Questions section:
Which power adapter should I use to charge my iPad?
iPad Air 2 and iPad Air come with a 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad mini 3 and iPad mini 2 come with a 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad mini comes with a 5W USB Power Adapter. If you need to purchase an additional adapter, choose the 12W adapter because it can charge all iPad models.
    http://store.apple.com/us/buy-ipad/ipad-air
You can choose to buy a 12 watt adapter if you want.
But as it stands, the 10 watt charger is the correct charger to be included with an iPad Air.

For accessories that use the 30-pin connection, you will need the Lightning to 30-pin Adapter to connect to them.

I have an iPad air and have downloaded the microsoft app excel.  I have an email with an excel attacment.  When I "tap to download" the attachment, it automatically converts to a PDF file and opens as a "view only" document.  I want it to open with the excel app so I can see and update the spreadsheet.  Please help.  Thanks!

If Excel works as do other apps, you should be able to tap and hold on the attachment and then select "Open in Excel" in the window that will open. Note that you need to be subscribed to and signed into Office 365 to be able to edit documents in Microsoft's apps.

  • Hi - Will Ipad Air word apps convert to .doc or .docx?

    Hi,
I have been a microsoft user most of my life.  I have decided to buy an ipad air and I need to know whether its word programme will convert to both .doc and docx
Also, on my laptop at the moment I save files on microsoft skydrive - will I still be able to save files on this cloud from an ipad air?
    Thanks

There is no Word program for the iPad.  Microsoft hasn't made one.  But Pages can read and write most Word files:

  • Will Quicktime Pro convert movies in other formats for use with IPad Air 2

ITunes 12 will let me import movies with no problem. However I cannot export these movies out to my IPhone 6 or IPad Air 2. Will Quicktime Pro allow me to convert these movies so they can be exported? I don't want to spend the $30 for it if the software will not do it.
Or if anyone else knows of another solution, I'm open to other options. I use to have an Samsung Galaxy 2 tablet and I just switched over to an IPad Air 2. Been using an IPhone for years.
    Thanks!

Nearly all "all-in-one" or multifunction devices will work with a Mac, but I recommend purchasing one from a company that visibly supports OS X. Brother, Canon, and Epson are all good choices. At present, no other common printer manufacturers are worth considering.
Wireless all-in-one devices are convenient and cost about the same as USB-only ones. Consider AirPrint compatibility for future needs.
Recently I have grown to favor Brother printers over the others. I recommend AirPrint compatible Brother printers and multifunction devices over those of other manufacturers. They are inexpensive, their OS X integration is well-implemented, their consumables are reasonably priced, and their technical support is free forever. If you need to call them and explain that you have a Mac, you will immediately receive competent assistance.
I have grown to dislike HP printers, for all the above reasons.
Read user reviews from vendor websites - Amazon is a good place to start, since Amazon lets people write almost anything they want... right, wrong, or completely idiotic.
Read the reviews on the respective manufacturers' websites as well, but consider the likelihood of them deleting negative reviews.
Process all those user reviews employing your own common sense, and draw your own conclusions.

  • Converting MP4 video to download and play on ipad Air

I have a few MP4 videos that I want to download to my ipad Air and show as my video portfolio.
I have researched this and there are so many answers but none seem to work. (tried like 4 of them already and still choppy video!)
I can't seem to find the right format to convert the videos so they work!
My import settings on itunes are : AAC Encoder: iTunesPlus (128kbps (mono)/256kbps (stereo), 44.100 Khz VBR optimized for MMX/SSE2)
I have VLC to convert the videos to m4v format but when I load them into itunes and then into my ipad, they show but the playback is choppy and no audio.
If anyone out there can give me the right formula to use in my VLC converter I would appreciate it:
    Encapsulation- MP4/MOV
    Video-
    Codec: H.264
    Bitrate: ?
    Frame Rate: ?
    Resolution: Width: 1280 or 720?
    Height: ?
    Audio-
Codec: MPEG 4 Audio (AAC)? or  MPEG Audio?
    Bitrate: 128?
    Channels: 2?
    Samplerate: 44100 or 48000?

I am having the same issue using VLC 2.1.3 - video conversion from mpg to mp4 won't play in Quicktime and are choppy when played back on my iPad Air. I don't use iTunes to upload but access them directly with FileBrowser App.

  • Many questions...advice?  iPad 2 == iPad Air in France

I have a 16 GB iPad 2 WiFi and am planning to buy a 32 GB iPad Air WiFi + cellular
I'm in France, but will probably be moving to the US next year.
    Many questions, any answers appreciated!
-I don't have a computer...my laptop committed suicide, and I got the iPad to tide me over, and found that I really don't need anything more. Is there any problem transferring my apps and data over, or do I have to repurchase stuff? It's backed up on iCloud.
-related question...is there a good way to get music I've got on various iPods (I've got 3 of the old tiny ones) onto the iPad (again, no computer)?
-will I be able to buy an iPad Air in France and use it in the US with just an adaptor, or do I need to buy a completely different power cord?
-it looks like if I get the WiFi + cellular version in France, I need to sign a cellular contract. Does anyone know if this is actually the case, or if I can buy one contractless, use it WiFi, and worry about the cellular part later? Again, if I take it to the US, will I be able to add a US cellular contract later? Or am I stuck with whichever country I bought it in?
-is there a good way to easily  trade in or sell my old iPad?  French power cord, etc.  Earbuds died.  Has it got any value?
-if I buy a 16 GB iPad Air can I add memory later, or should I go for 32 GB right off the bat? I spent a bunch of money for extra iCloud storage, only to discover that it didn't mean I could keep more movies downloaded, and so it wasn't useful and I canceled it. Am I correct in assuming that I probably want the 32 GB this time around?
-I don't have a printer, but I'd like to get one. What I really want is cheap and nasty, good at printing black-and-white, easy set-up, no expensive supplies. Recommendations? Or what to definitely avoid?
-is there a good reason to buy from the Apple Store as opposed to a general electronics retailer?
-I currently use the SmartCase, but I'm thinking to change to a SmartCover because of the weight.
Except for not covering the back of the device, do they basically function the same?
-I don't like the available Apple case color options (they are the icky pastel colors of cheap Japanese blenders! Why?)...
Are there any cases from other manufacturers that are equally or even more functional but have other colors?
If anyone has any recommendations for indispensable accessories that you really love, please tell me!
Also, the 2 annoying points I've noticed are (1) a bunch of stuff is only available through FlashPlayer, and (2) can't attach multiple documents to emails. Are there any changes here, or am I missing an
    easy workaround?
    Merci beaucoup!

As long as you use the same Apple ID on both the devices you can share apps and content that's been downloaded from Apple.
If the music on your iPod came from iTunes you can redownload it. If you synced it onto your iPods as music ripped from cd's etc then I don't think you can get it off the iPod, or if you can the only way to do that is with a computer.
You will only need a plug adapter, the power brick should work on world wide power.
I don't have a cellular iPad but if you get one that's wifi only you can later look into something like a Mifi, a portable battery operated wifi hot spot.
Selling your old iPad should be relatively easy although you might need to knock off a few bucks for the french power plug. Just make sure that you erase all content and settings before you sell it so they can get int it and so that your data is removed.
THe memory isn't upgradable so buy the memory you'll need because what you buy is all you have.
Any wireless printer could work. If it's air print enabled then you're good to go. If not  you can look for apps by the printer manufacturer or there are plenty of third party printer apps that enable wireless printing.
You don't have to buy from Apple. In fact, places like Best Buy offer really great accidental damage protection that can be even better than waht Apple offers. In addition, third party places may have other perks, such as free covers or gift cards towards accessories, etc. So shop around.
The only thing to remember, if you choose to buy Apple Care Plus it's best to get it when you buy your device.
As far as I know there's no huge difference between the smart case or Smart Cover. If you're shopping for cases then I'd suggest Amazon. Widest and best selection out there, and even if you don't buy from amazon, you can see who's got what.
THe accessory I can't live without is my Zagg Folio, it's a case and wireless keyboard that turns my ipad into a mini computer.  A stylus can also be helpful if you find the screen hard to maneuver around but not necessary.
