HT4352 Home sharing keeps dropping out on my apple tv after a few minutes
I have just installed apple TV which I thought would enable me to watch my movies straight from itunes to my TV I suppose if you count up to 2 minutes at a time before the Turn on Home Sharing comes up. I am sure you do not have to reset it in itunes everytime this is really annoying any help would be very grateful.
I have this same problem, and apple said that it has to do with the router closing the ports so you have to call whoever makes your router and have them help you port forward. I did this and it helped for a couple months, then back to the same ol' same ol'.

Why Does Home Sharing keep dropping out?
Hi,
I recently got an apple TV and I'm very happy with it. However one irritating thing is that the Home Sharing in itunes keeps dropping out. So I sit down comfortably in my armchair, ready to watch one of my home movies that I have in itunes movies on the computer, and go to select it and 'nothing'. I have to drag myself upstairs, open itunes, disconnect home sharing and then reconnect home sharing and then everything is fine.
It's not a huge deal but rather irritating. Can anyone tell me how I can prevent this disonnect of home sgaring from happening?
Thanks,
Steve.Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. -
I have AppleTV and Ipad2 running VJay app to my TV over a private cisco router disabled firewall but I keep loosing the video on my TV after a few minutes what can I do?
I also get this problem on my iPad, so probably not related to the AppleTV. On the iPad I restarted Airport Extreme this time, and then the iPad saw my Home Sharing.
So to recap, restarting the router or Airport Express allowed the iPad and AppleTV to see Home Sharing. Restarting AppleTV also allows AppleTV to see Home Sharing.
So does anyone have any idea?
Thanks -
Home sharing constantly dropping out
I have two apple TVs (2 gen) streaming from a single mac using home sharing over a private wifi network. I have a problem with the Apple TV constantly losing the home sharing link. It can be part way through a movie playing and then suddenly the movie stops and the home sharing prompt comes up on the Apple TV. I restart itunes (the latest version) on the Mac and the Apple TV immediately picks up hte home sharing library again. Sometimes it will play a whole movie, sometimes just ten minutes, sometimes when the Apple TV wakes up it finds the home sharing link sometimes it doesn't. I can not seem to find a common cause - I stop the computer sleeping, no difference. When it drops out the Apple TV still has wifi, I can access Youtube for example - no problems. This is driving me bananas. Anyone got any suggestions?
I have owned Apple TV for a year and half and dropping home sharing has been a problem from day one. I have spoken to Apple many times and tried all their suggestions, Macbook Pro, Airport Extreme, Reboot, Reload, Etc..... Nothing has solved the problem. The problem may be as frequent as every 5 minutes or once in 3 hours. Logging out of home sharing and logging back in gets home sharing back running but does not solve the problem.
I am convinced Apple TV is garbage. Everything I own made by Apple "just works" I cannot say the same about Apple TV. It is an expensive paperweight. I cannot recommended anyone to purchase this product and during my year and a half relationship with Apple TV, it is obvious that this problem is widespread and Apple has no resolution to fix it. This piece of junk just sits there collecting dust since it is too frustrating to use it.
I have spent many, many thousands on Apple products and everything works fine, but Apple TV is garbage. -
does anyone have a solution regarding the constant fading out of home sharing with i tunes - I have reinstalled my remote app on my I Touch as well as in I tunes and I still have to constantly tun home sharing off and then re log back in - as soom as I go to another app on my touch and then go back to remote I have lost the home sharing connection - any suggestions?

I have updated Itunes and quicktime and it still does this. I have taken my laptop to get checked, but it seems to be just iTunes that is messing up.

Why does my apple tv keep dropping out of home sharing.
why does my apple tv keep dropping out of home sharing.
I use homeplug powerline adapters to create my home Lan. I've never had any problem with my ATV 2.
This isn't ideal either, I would rather have shielded CAT7 cables reach all the way to my modem.
Either way, wired solutions are more reliable and have a higher potential speed as wireless uses pulsed electromagnetic radiation as a means for transportation in stead of copper or fiber optic cables
The World Health Organization's IARC has recently classified radio frequency electromagnetic fields as possibly level 2 carcinogenic to humans, concluding:
"the evidence, while still accumulating, is strong enough to support a conclusion and the 2B classification. The conclusion means that there could be some risk, and therefore we need to keep a close watch for a link between cell phones and cancer risk." -
iPhoto constantly keeps dropping out. Other programs do at times but iPhoto drops out constantly. Does anyone know what causes this?
Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

3G connection keeps dropping out after 4.2.1 update
Hi, I'm wondering if anyone could help me.
I have the iPhone 4, and it was working perfectly... until I upgraded to iOS 4.2.1.
Ever since then, my 3G connection keeps dropping out, and I'm just left with vodafone UK (with usually 3-4 bar signal) but no 'o', 'E' or '3G' symbol.
After about 20 minutes of no cellular data, I'd get the 'o' symbol, then 10 seconds later it would change to '3G'. But then after 5 seconds it would lose it. The cycle would continue in this way.
Strangely, when at home, the 3G would stay connected. But when I go anywhere, I lose 3G.
When I turn 3G off, I get constant 'o' connection where ever I go. It doesn't drop out.
I've tried resetting the phone, and resetting network settings.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks.I'm having a similar issue with my new iPhone 4 (w/ 4.2.1)... It continually cycles through the following sequence:
AT&T / 3G
AT&T / No Data
Searching…
Searching… 3G
AT&T / 3G
(loops…)
Here is a video of the cycling. Note the iPhone 4 is just sitting on a coffee table in my house.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7186070/ip4fw421searching.mov
Also worth noting, I just got the iPhone 4 and I updated it to 4.2.1 right away. Previously, I had a 3GS which did not exhibit any of this behavior in the same location in my house. Also, my girlfriend still has a 3GS and has FW 4.2.1 without these issues. I have a video of her phone in the exact same location taken just after the clip above and her phone maintains 3-bars / AT&T / 3G the entire time.
I picked up the iPhone 4 while out of state over the holiday weekend and did not observe any of these connectivity issues, in fact the 3G throughput of the iPhone 4 was significantly better (consistently got >4 Mbps down / >800 Kbps up) than what my family members were seeing with their 3GS models.
I believe it is a baseband issue introduced with the 4.2.1 update for iPhone 4, but I also strongly believe there is some tower component to this problem (ie, software revision at the tower or configuration).
Like others here, I also performed a restore to 4.2.1 through iTunes and setup my phone as "New" and I continue to see the behavior. The phone is unusable in my house unless I manually disable 3G. As a final data point, when I'm able to maintain a 3G connection long enough in my house I get the following throughput from Speedtest.net: 1863 Kbps down / 543 Kbps up. -
After updating to IOS7 I have lost a years worth of pictures and my wi-fi keeps dropping out. Anyone have any similar problems or suggestions?
Re wifi:
Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at
http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
• Launch Settings app
• Tap on Wi-Fi
• Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

Hi, my iPad 2 keeps dropping out and going back to a blank screen. I have to again enter my password and go back to what I was doing and then it happens again, I have tried resetting and nothing has changed.
Thanks
RonFirst, try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. It could take well over an hour! Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod. As before, say "yes." Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time. If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device. Corrective action is simple - choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here. You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without be charged again. Also, if you have IOS-7, read this. -
Has anyone upgraded to iOS 8 and have found that the service provider keeps dropping out? I have to restart my iPad to get my service back. Only happened after upgrading! Would love A fix for this.
I'm not going to say that you won't find an easier solution than the one below, but I would recommend it as the "ultimate" solution.

Re: IPAD2 very slow after IOS 8 upgradein response to pacoKAS
SOLVED: IOS 8 Issues on iPad 2:
I just returned home from a visit to the Genius Bar. Like you and many others, when I upgraded my iPad 2 to IOS 8, it became practically unusable. It was VERY slow, lagged whenever trying to to do anything. Lots of screen freezes and apps spontaneously crashing. I was convinced that the processor on the iPad 2 just couldn't handle the new IOS and I went in to see about restoring to IOS 7.
Thankfully, I was hooked up with a very sharp guy at the bar. The problem is not with the OS, it is with it being an *upgraded* OS. He used the analogy of when you had an older Windows computer and how over time (and over upgrades), they just tended to get slower and slower because of all of the garbage that was carried forward in the upgrades. At those times (and if you've ever had a Windows computer, you get this), the only thing that would speed it up would be to wipe the machine and do a fresh install of the current OS and then reload your apps, and the viola, everything would be fast again. Well, it turns out that IOS can suffer the same problems.
THE FIX: FIRST, be sure you have a current iCloud backup of your device. Connect your iPad to a computer that has a clean fresh copy of IOS 8 on iTunes (this is best done with a computer other than the one that you sync your device to because you DO NOT want to restore it from a back up just yet). Ideally, if you do this at an Apple store you'll be assured of the right version there and someone to answer any questions you might have along the way. You then hold the power and home button down to hard-reset the device and continue to hold them down until it reboots into recovery mode. You then follow the instructions on the computer to reinstall the OS on the device (which wipes everything from it and then reinstalls a clean copy of it). Once this is done (which only takes about 15 minutes), your device will reboot and ask you to set it up. Answer the questions about language, location, etc. and continue until it asks you to log into your iTunes account. Once you do that, it will ask if you want to either 1) Set it up as a new device, 2) Restore from iCloud, or 3) Restore from iTunes. Choose (2), restore from iCloud. This will ensure that it brings down "clean" copies of all of your apps and preferences rather than the potentially corrupted ones that might reside in your iTunes backup. That's it! It will take a few hours depending on how much data and apps you have, but I am happy to report that my iPad 2 is now running IOS 8 and it's running as fast as it ever did when it was brand new!
To sum it up, this process 1) Wipes your device and the garbage causing your problems, 2) Loads a clean and bug-free version of IOS 8 to your device, and 3) restores your apps and data so that it looks just like it did before the wipe, with the exception that it works now! :-)
Note also that by following this process you don't have to go through the painful and laborious process of reloading all of your apps, data and/or settings. iCloud takes care of all of that for you. -
