HT4356 AirPrint issue

I have a HP LaserJet Pro 100 color MFP M175nw that worked fine for over a year.  Now when I try to print from an iPhone or iPad I get a message 'No AirPrint printer found'. I can print wirelessly from my iMac and email to the printer through HP.

  • Intermittent AirPrint Issues

I am trying to figure out why an iPad, iPhone and a Mac Desktop sometimes prints and then the devices are not able to find the printer again. The printer is an Epson WF-3620 which is AirPrint ready and has the latest firmware per manufacturer. The printer is connected to the same WiFi as all the devices. All Apple devices have the latest iOS and OS versions (yosemite 10.10.2, etc..).
The WiFi is configure as follows:
4 Access points using the same SSID each on its own channel with a 3-4 channel separation between each channel. The reason for this type of configuration is to provide WiFi coverage through a large area and allow devices to connect to the access point with the strongest signal (for WiFi roaming). However this issue was pre-existing even when the built WiFi from the ISP modem was being used. The AP are connected to a dumb switch and the switch is connected to a Motorola Surfboard.
At first I thought the printer may have an issue with the wireless config so I created a new SSID on the closest AP to the printer (about 2 feet away) and connected the printer to that new SSID with a lower security type (went from WPA2 to WPA). Still Airprint issues, worked for a bit, allowed to sit for 10 minutes, then tried to print and now the devices are not able to find the printer (sleep setting on printer is set for 4 hours). Restart the AP and then we can print again but then the issue appears again. I installed a Lantronix xPrintserver Home device (it works like AirPort) so that we could connect the printer to the USB port then I connected the xPrinterserver to the LAN (cable) and disabled the WiFi on the printer.
Bingo, all devices were able to print but again, after waiting a few minutes of no activity the devices could no longer find the printer or if it found it when you click on print it would hang on connecting to printer. So I concluded, with AirPrint same issue over WiFi, same issue wired (LAN) and a different AirPrint capable device still the same issue. I did forget to add the same exact issue also occurred with a Canon printer that was AirPrint ready.
I did notice on the Mac Desktop that has Yosemite 10.10.2 when you open the printer queue to see the print job you can click on the settings gear. Once you do this there is a button that says open printer web settings or something like that, can't remember right now. When you click on this button it opens up safari and tries to connect to the printers webpage but I noticed it is using the hostname.local name as opposed to the IP. I also noticed the printer page would not load but if I typed the IP instead the page opens with no issues. I have contacted Apple support and no one really has any idea of the actual workings of AirPrint (technical level) to let me know if the AirPrint feature uses name resolution to find the printer or does it use "specifically" just the IP or a combination of both. The reason I ask this question is because on the Mac Desktop if you try to ping hostname.local it is not able to ping the printer, however, if I use the IP of the printer it responds with no issues. If I do an nslookup of hostname.local it shows it is trying to resolve to an IP that is not part of the internal network but an IP from the ISP's DNS server that is not routable. For example, the internal network is 192.168.0.x but the nslookup shows 198.150.x.x for hostname.local. This of course means the desktop is using the ISP DNS servers for name resolution. So I added the printer IP and hostname.local to the Mac desktop hosts file and now we are able to ping hostname.local with the correct IP but of course I am assuming the OS will use the hosts file first before the DNS servers for name resolution. This seem to work for the Mac Desktop for a little but then the issue appeared again. I  know, I know, this is turning into a novel with suspense and thriller.
At the end of all this I decided to wait until the Mac Desktop started having the printer issue again. This time I decided to turn off WiFi and turn it back on and presto the desktop can now print. I did the same to the iOS device (iPad, etc..) and presto they started to print with no issues. I waited until the issue started again and turned off/on WiFi on the iOs and OS X devices and presto, we can print again. I did this a few times and every single time the printer was not found I turned off/on the WiFi on the devices and printing worked with no issues. I am not able to figure, explain or conclude why doing this would cause the printing to function correctly. This is currently the workaround we have for this issue but of course it is a band aid. I did forget to add that although the printer is not found the devices still have internet access and connected to the WiFi; just in case that question comes up.
I was able to find another discussion where the user stated they turned off/on their WiFi and they were able to print.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what can be causing these intermittent issues?
If you fell asleep I understand.

The hostname.local is relying on a component of the discovery daemon process known as mDNSResponder - aka Bonjour. This is a broadcasting protocol that allows your iOS and OS X to find the printer on the network.

So with AirPrint using Bonjour to locate the printer on the local network, it uses a name resolve to determine the IP address. If there is an issue with Bonjour, which btw many users of Yosemite have experienced, then you won't be able to resolve the name to IP. And thus you cannot ping the printer by name but you can by entering its direct IP. Note that if Bonjour is working, then you can ping by hostname.local.

This is normal. The name server lookup queries the DNS addresses entered in the Network > DNS page. This will typically be the local router and the ISP.
You can use arp hostname.local to check the IP address being used by the device.

Up till now I have only read about users who upgraded to Yosemite having this issue with printer connections via Bonjour. So with you also having the issue with iOS I wonder if there is a bigger issue with Bonjour. Are you using iOS 8.x on these devices?

My thought is that the cycling of the wifi setting on the device causes a refresh of the local Bonjour reference table. I'm no expert on this but I'm trying to learn why Yosemite users who were printing fine on a previous version of OS X are now having this issue. If you would like to read some of the info I've been using, such as how Bonjour works, here is a link to the Apple Developer site.

  • HT4356 HP LaserJet Pro M1217nfw MFP.  AirPrint issues.

My printer, the HP LaserJet Pro M1217nfw MFP, is listed above as an AirPrint-enabled printer model, but I am still receiving the “No AirPrint Printers Found” message.  Since I have successfully printed from three PCs connected to the WiFi, I know the HP M1217 wireless printer is working.
    Not a Apple network.
2 PCs running Windows 7 and one XP.
    iPhone 5.1.1
Can anyone help my iPad and iPhone 4s find the printer OR explain why these devices do not work and my three PC do?

Hi Scott, ensure that you have the latest firmware installed that enables this function.
    Hope this helps!

  • HT4356 Ios6 issue with airprint

Prior to os6 upgrade, AirPrint from ipad2 worked sporadically.  After upgrade, printer is no longer recognized.  Have cycled power on iPad, printer, router.  I can't print from ipad2 via AirPrint after upgrading to ios6.

Install an app for iOS called "Bonjour Browser".  https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/discovery-bonjour-browser/id305441017?mt=8
It's free and VERY useful.  I'd recommend you install it on your iOS devices. It's a tool that browses for Bonjour services on the network

  • AirPrint Issues

    Hi,
Desk jet 3520, Belkin router, iPads.
Worked fine after initial setup but if you leave the printer alone for a while, the ipad will no longer 'see it'. I need to reboot the printer or router to make it available again and even then, it may not work.
Tried a static IP. (Informed router not to use this particular IP for DHCP. DNS, gateway etc are all set correctly; the same as the were in auto). I can print to the print with eprint- so the Internet connection is fine. The iPads can 'see' the printer, but when you select it, the loading spinning wheel just stays next to the printer name and it never allows you to begin printing.
Not sure how to resolve this?

    Hi @RASB89,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums.  I see that you are having connectivity issues when trying to print from an iPad to your Deskjet 3520 printer.
If the spinning circle icon will not stop this indicates that the connection does not provide internet access.  This is expected behavior if you are trying to connect the printer’s wireless direct network.  This information can be found in the Printing from an Apple or Android Mobile Device with HP Wireless Direct document.
I’ve also included the Printing Over a Wireless Network with Apple's AirPrint FAQs document.  It has a section dedicated to the question “What if a 'No AirPrint Printers Found' message displays on my Apple device?” and a section titled “What if I experience problems when I try to use AirPrint?”.  Please check those sections to see if there is any of the troubleshooting steps that you haven’t tried.
Lastly I have included the Apple AirPrint: The Apple Mobile Device Shows the Job is Printing but the Printer Does Not Print document.  It has many of the steps that are mentioned in the previous documents but it never hurts to be thorough.
Please let me know how it goes.

  • HT4356 AirPrint Support in the Printer Side (Request for Official Procedure/Steps)

*I selected the iPhone community (but this is for Apple's AirPrint Support in general)
We are currently considering to add support for AirPrint
    in our printer-side development.
Does anyone know how can receive official information from Apple regarding
the required procedure/steps to correctly support
    AirPrint in the printer side?
We are expecting that such steps would also contain details
on how our printers can become listed later on
in the following Apple page containing the official AirPrint printers:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4356
We understand that Apple may need to conduct
some conformance tests in order to consider
that our printer has already officially supported AirPrint,
so we may need to consider such also in our schedule.

The round button at the bottom of the iPad's front is your Home button.  The Sleep button is on the top edge near the right corner.
Normally the Sleep button just puts the iPad to sleep but does not acgtually turn it off.  If you used the "Slide to power off" arrow and turned it off, you will need to hold the Sleep button for several seconds until the Apple logo appears, in order to turn the iPad back on.
I wonder if you did the reset the right way, but just did not hold both buttons long enough for the Apple logo to appear?  I just tried it on my iPad 2, and it took 17 seconds before the Apple logo appeared.  It took another couple of minutes for it to restart to the "slide to unlock" screen.

  • HT4356 Airprinting on epson xp600

This printer is supposed to be AirPrint ready but neither my iPad or iPhone recognize it as an AirPrint option.  What's the trick to getting it to work?

There are some troubleshooting steps here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4356?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Check using the panel on your computer to be sure you have the latest firmware on your printer and update it if necesssary.
Make sure the printer and iPad are connected to the same network.
Reset the iPad (hold down the home and sleep buttons, wait for the Apple logo, let go of the buttons), the printer and your router.

  • HT4356 AirPrint

Can I use my Iphone hotspot as a router for Airprint to support printing from my Macbook Pro and Ipad?

I don't think Airprint acts as a print server, but it would be interesting to know the results if you try.
However, as a hotspot, I think it is just a router, so as mentioned, it may work if you can connect the printer to the hotspot network.

  • AirPrint issues with one phone, not others

My iPhone says it is sending the page to my HP airprinter but then nothing prints. My husbands IPhone and IPad and even our Dell laptop AirPrint fine. I have the 4S, he has the 3. Thank you.

  • Lasejet 1102w plus airprinter issues plus home networking config

I have printer HP Laserjet 1102w in my wireless network as follows:
192.168.1.1 ADSL Modem in my bedroom --> 192.168.1.2 TPLINK TL-WR941ND in my bedroom --> 192.168.1.3 TPLINK TL-WR1043ND (AS A REPEATER) in my office in another floor of my house. The printer is in my office.
The printer works just fine using my notebook. I can print everywhere.
But when trying to print from an Ipad or Iphone, I cannot print from my bedroom. No printer is shown in airprinter (ipad/iphone).
When both ipad or iphone gets repeater signal (far away from 192.168.1.2 TPLink Router) the printer shows in airprinter
So I cannot print from my bedroom when using ipad/iphone.
    What am I doing wrong?
I would like to print everywhere using my ipad/iphone. Is there any config to make in 192.168.1.2 router?
The printer has static IP 192.168.1.11
    Thanks in advance.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

This is because the printer and the iOS devices have to be on the same network, if one is on the primary and one is on the repeater it will likely not work. As I mentioned above that AirPrint often does not work on repeaters or on hotspots due to how they interact on the network.

  • HT4356 AirPrint on 3G

I am using my new iPad on a 3G network (Verizon).  Do I need to be on a "wifi" network to use AirPrint?  Can I link to my Epson printer on the 3G network?
    Thanks!

unless your network setup allow you to expose your printer freely on the internet for all to print to then it's only
    on wifi
getting it on the internet requrie a lot of setup in terms of ports being opened in your router and in some cases from your internet service provider too some providers charge for the whole static ip setup too

  • HT4356 Airprint Compatible Printers

I see this article was updated January 7th 2013 is the list of printers current & up to date?

It's as up to date as Apple had information as of that date. That's not to say that printer manufacturers may not have announced new models or released updates to existing printers and not informed Apple, so I would not consider that list as being completely all-encompassing and authoritative, no.
    Regards.

My 4th gen wifi/cellular ipad doesn't see my Lexmark Pro915 printer. They both connect to my network just fine. Any suggestions for a solution?

    Hi, Gangusb.
You may find these articles helpful in troubleshooting your AirPrint issue.  As you Lexmark print is an AirPrint compatible printer, some AirPrint printers will require a firmware update out of the box to become AirPrint-enabled. See the manufacturer's documentation or website for details.

  • AirPrint and the D-Link DIR-655 solution

After much messing around I have finally achieved the ability to airprint using a DLink DIR-655 router.
In my own search for a solution it became apparent this is bothering a lot of you. So here is my solution.
    Basic equipment we were using:
iPhone 4s / iPad2 / iPad3 / MacBookPro Retina / Mac mini / Apple TV (the new one - forget its model) / some random android devices / Win 7 PC
    HP photosmart 5510 (B111a) Firmware ver. EPL2CN1239AR
DLink DIR-655 router (ver. B1) Firmware ver. 2.05
Set up HP printer over USB cable as per normal.
Remove USB cable and finalise connection to wireless network as per normal (follow the HP setup).
Log into your router via your browser.
    In your router settings:
under SETUP / NETWORKSETTINGS / ADD DHCP Reservation (all my other devices are dynamic - this step is not essential but saves you time if you want to use your browser to log into the printer and scan or whatever - you can bookmark the address). Put in the appropriate details. You should be able to see the IP address, mac address, device name for the printer listed in Dynamic DHCP Clients section directly below.
Save settings then log back into router.
under ADVANCED / FIREWALL SETTINGS / Enable SPI - make sure SPI is disabled. That is to say, the box is not ticked. This is important.
under the same menu (ADVANCED / FIREWALL SETTINGS the next options down are NAT ENDPOINT FILTERING. For UDP Endpoint Filtering select "Endpoint Independent". For TCP Endpoint Filtering select "Endpoint Independent".
Save settings then log back into router.
under ADVANCED / ADVANCED NETWORK / MULTICAST STREAMS - check the box to enable Multicast Streams.
    Save your settings.
    Enjoy!

    Hi Noel
I am currently changing out my entire network.
I am trying to avoid apple routers for both configurability and price.
The bonjour issues I had been having really bugged me and lately despite HP replacing my printer, D-Link sending me an unreleased firmware I can print now from iPhones but not iPads.
    This is crazy.
Using cunning software I was able to see the original HP printer was not broadcasting on bonjour.
Got the new one, now it is. They were very kind at HP and gave me a free upgrade to a printer worth about 150 more. I have a lot of respect for their customer service.
However, now I can see it is broadcasting on bonjour as mentioned above I can only print from the iPhones, not the iPads. (?????)
I am looking into some routers compatible with DD-WRT (a nice firmware created by some people much smarter than I am) http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/index
At another location with similar devices we have had no trouble getting everything to work including all the bridging etc.
This still has not resolved my iPad no airprint issue but I intend to check this out at the other location tomorrow.
Unfortunately the DIR-655 uses a cpu that is not compatible with DD-WRT.
I am also wanting to integrate one apple airport express to airstream music (I don't like the compression of bluetooth).
In the next 2 weeks I am going to finalise all of this and will let you know how I go.
Please keep me posted on any advancements you have too.
Edit: Oh and by the way, I, like you am using many different OS. I have about 9 iOS and osX devices, several windows PC's, 2 android devices, samsung wireless TV, dvico media player, aTV, gaming devices, HP printer etc etc... Networking used to be something I enjoyed. I have in the past had long range wireless links, linux boxes set up as routers etc but in an effort to simplify have reduced all of this (and the long range wifi link was highly illegal in terms of wattage but meant I had a 6kM link betwween two properties - probably effecting everyone in the ways own wifi ).
