HT4356 Help. I recently bought a Brother MFC-J4410DW + printer

Help. I recently bought a Brother MFC-J4410DW + printer/scanner/copier and I cannot figure out how to make it wirelessly print from my Mac desktop. I have OSX 10.8.3. I have tried downloading so many drivers and still nothing. Any advice?
If this is the wrong place for this then I am sorry. I have tried the brother help site and still nothing.
Thanks in advance... or even just pointing me in the right direction.

Is your printer connected to your network? LAN / WLAN. If you can connect it to LAN for testing. do so! If you have configured the printer in the LAN access the printer through your browser (type in ip-adress). Normally printers have a webapplication to configure them. Check in their if you can do any settings --> Wireless. If possible give printer (WLAN)- IP, diconnect LAN and try to access webapplication through wireless. If that is possible it should be possible to print by manually configuring your printer in your operating system --> Preferences-->printe&scan--> add(+)-->IP --> put in your settings!

  • CUPS Driver for Brother MFC-J270w Printer

    Howdy, y'all.
Just wondering if anybody could help me find a .ppd version of the Brother MFC-J270w printer driver? Not available through the default packages (didn't show up in the CUPS interface) and the versions of the drivers on the Brother website are .rpm and .deb versions.
I bought this printer because there was a great deal at Best Buy, and now I am sadfacin'.

Where on the Wiki does it say you can't use the CD-ROM?  Just would like to read it myself for reference.
I'm taking another look at what else comes with the .ppd file.  There appears to be a shell script you can run in the PARTS directory that acts as the install tool (not very well named if nothing else).  Looks like it also expects you to have made the brcupsconf-whatever file that is in the third directory in the tar file.  Unfortunately, I think it's expecting the printer to be hooked up via USB, could be wrong though.
I don't know if you've already configured this printer before or if it's out-of-the-box never-been-touched and you're trying to install it to work wirelessly.  Duh alert: the first time you install/configure the printer you HAVE to do it via USB, at least that was my experience.  I did it through Windows, however, and it readily acquired all the wireless network information it needed that way.  I'm guessing if this is really a new printer that hasn't been configured before, and you can't configure its wireless any other way, that might be what you have to do.
Short version: I'd say reconsider the tar file where you got the ppd file from, check the other two directories.  Also, you may have to have the printer hooked up via USB if it's the first time you're setting it up.

  • Can't print to Networked Brother MFC-7420 Printer after installing 10.6

A few days ago my dad decided to finally take the plunge and let me upgrade his operating system from 10.5 to Snow Leopard 10.6.6 on his Imac.
Ever since then I have been unable to print to his Brother MFC-7420 printer.
The printer is connected to his Imac via USB and I connect to his printer through our Linksys Router on my laptop MacBook Pro. The downside about this setup is that his computer has to be physically on for me to be able to see and/or print to the printer.
When he was running 10.5 I was able to print to his printer with no problems but now that he is running 10.6 I can "see" the printer but when I sent a print job to it the Print Queue for the Brother on my screen says "Connecting to Printer" and never gets any further.
Printer Sharing is turned on as usual allowing "Everyone" on the network to print. I've tried removing and reinstalling the driver on my computer to no avail, I haven't tried doing the same to his computer.
A side note to make though, when my dad is running 10.5 on his machine and I try to add the Printer via my Print&Fax the system will automatically set the "Print Using" to the correct Brother MFC-7420 Cups" driver. However, if he is running 10.6 my system just comes up with the "Generic PostScript Printer".
Is there something I should do on his end or my end so that "my" computer can print again to his printer?
Any suggestions are appreciated, if any of you need more info feel free to post and I'll try to help. Thanks!

A couple of suggestions for you.
Ensure you have installed the MFC-7420 OS X 10.6 CUPS driver on both Mac's.
Open Print & Fax and select the Default view and select the shared printer. When your Print Using menu selects Generic Postscript, change this menu to 'Select printer software' and then search for the 7420 driver. According to Brother support the driver name will be listed as "MFC-7420 + CUPS".

  • How do I set the FireFox browser to be compatible with my Brother MFC-8840D printer so it will translate color into grayscale when printing from a webpage?

Hi, I have a question about setting the FireFox browser so it is compatible with my Brother MFC-8840D printer to print in grayscale. Currently, if I print anything in color, like a Google Map, the colored parts of the map show up blank, whereas the color should change to grayscale in a black/white laser printer. Brother tech support told me to contact Mozilla about this issue.
In comparison, when I print a Google Map on my dad's HP printer (also using FireFox browser), the color map prints perfectly in grayscale, so I can see all of the street lines.

  • I recently bought an Epson Artisan 837 printer. I installed the driver and now Photoshop from CS3 will not open. It quits when the Twain portion of the program starts loading. Does anyone know how to fix this so my printer will work with Photoshop??

I recently bought an Epson Artisan 837 printer. I installed the driver and now Photoshop from CS3 will not open. It closes every time it gets to the point where it is loading the Twain portion. Does anyone know how to fix this so my printer and Photoshop will work together? Thanks for any help I can get!

    You're welcome.
But, no, don't look to  Epson for fixes to their  driver in newer versions, and Adobe has deprecated the TWAIN plug-in.  Hoping for a solution there is futile.  That has not happened and it's never going to happen.  The consensus is that it's pretty foolish to tie up Photoshop to scan.  Honestly.
Any improvement in the behavior of newer versions of the Epson drivers in that regard would be pure coincidence.
You need to understand that you never, ever scan "within" Photoshop, as Photoshop has no scanning capabilities whatsoever.  When you use the Import > Twain plug-in all you are doing is blocking Photoshop while you call up the stand-alone Epson scanning software.  If you think about it, its most inefficient.
VueScan has a pretty powerful scanning plug-in that can be called from the Impost menu—if you insist.  VueScan is not free, but it's a pretty good value, IMO.
As for the Epson CD printing software, I have no clue.  Sorry.

  • Difficulty installing Brother MFC-J825 printer driver

    Hi
I'm trying to install a Brother MFC-J825DW printer to my MacBook Air running OSX 10.8.5.
I have downloaded and successfully installed the driver from the Brother website.   However when I connect the printer via a USB port:
-- I can see the printer in 'Print and Scan' preferences
-- but I can't find the driver downloaded from Brother
-- instead I get prompted to dowload te driver from Apple
-- After clicking 'Install' - a few moments later, I get a message saying: The software is currently unavailable.
How can I use the drivers as downloaded directly from Apple?
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks
    Krish

... However when I connect the printer via a USB port:
The MFC-J825DW is a wireless printer. Assuming you have a wireless network, it's best to not use its USB connection at all.
Make sure the printer is connected to your wireless network. You can use its front panel control for configuration: Menu > Network > WLAN. Refer to its manual, page 34:
    http://download.brother.com/welcome/doc002847/cv_mfc825dw_eng_net_b.pdf
Once you get it working, check Brother's website for firmware updates. An update was released for it about a month ago. Don't update its firmware until you get it working reliably.

  • Why can't I connect to my brother MFC-J4510DW printer wirelessly? The printer is connected to the router and I can surf the web. I wonder if some security setting may be keeping it from connecting to my MacBook Pro.

Why can't I connect to my brother MFC-J4510DW printer wirelessly? The printer is connected to the router.
I can surf the web. My wife can print from her PC wirelessly on it.
I wonder if some security setting may be keeping it from connecting to my MacBook Pro. I've installed the software, firmware and driver updates but
    it still shows "off line"
with the printer power on. Any suggestions?

All I can suggest right now is back up first the try to reset the printing system, (all printers in the list will be removed).
Then connect directly to the printer via ethernet or to the Mac using USB and restart the efforts you have made up until now.
As for router settings, it's possible but not likely that your router only allows a small number of clients. It's also posible that you have MAC address filtering on, lastly are you using the correct wireless protocol, (802.11a/b/g WEP or WPA etc)?

  • When I try to install my Brother MFC-8810DW printer through a wireless network I get error:-30886

When I try to install my Brother MFC-8810DW printer through a wireless network I get error:-30886.  The computer recognizes the printer, and asks me to identify the software, but I get the same error message repeatedly.

That file might have moved to a different location on the server. I think you'll need to check with RefWorks support or your local IT department on why the install page links do not work.

  • I want to fax from my mac using a Brother MFC-7220 Printer/fax

I'm currently using a Brother MFC-7220 Printer/Fax machine with my Mac Mini, attached via USB.
It works great as a printer, but I want to fax from within Mac Applications using the 7220.
I tried going "File/Print, then selecting the PDF pull down menu in the lower left corner of the print management window. I selected "Fax PDF..." but the system comes back with a "No Fax Modems Found.." message.
    Any suggestions/solutions ?
    Thanks

You may need to install the Brother drivers.
By default, Mac OS X only installs the printer drivers, ignoring other features of multi-function devices. By installing the vendor's driver you gain access to the other features.
In this case you should find that installing the driver enables a new printer option - Brother MFC-7220 (Fax) - which can be used to send your fax. So now faxing is as simple as choosing 'Print' and selecting the 'Fax' option from the list of available printers.

  • Brother MFC-7420 Prints from iMac, not from Macbook Pro using Airport Extreme

I have a Brother MFC-7420 printer.  Up ntil a few days ago, I coiuld print from my Macbook Pro, as the Systems Pref. in the iMac allowed for everyone to print. Now I get the message "Printer Off Line," when the printer icon pops out of the dock in my attempt to print from the MacBook Pro. I use wired with the iMac, wireless with MBP, but it printed fine with the Extreme. Any answers, appreciated.

Have you already completed the troubleshooting basics, like powering off the entire network, and then powering up modem first, then each network device one at a time?

  • IMac OSX 10.9.5 Shows Brother MFC 8710DW Printer Is "Offline" and "Not Connected T

I have a Brother MFC 8710 DW that I've had for the past 4 months. It works perfectly fine with my other devices (iPad, iPhone, Windows PC and Macbook Pro) but it doesn't work with my iMac OSX 10.9.5. I did the things listed below but it keeps on telling me that the printer is not connected to my computer and whenever I check its status, it keeps on saying "offline." I've tried to contact Apple and they said that it's Brother's problem and that I should speak with them. However, when I called Brother, they said that it's Apple's problem. I'm at lost on what I need to do. As much as I love my iMac, I am tempted to return it back. Please help.
Things I've done so far but did not fix the problem:
    1. Unplugged the printer, iMac and router and plugged it back in after a few minutes.
    2. Removed the printer from my iMac and added it back.
    3. Reinstalled the software from Brother.
    4. Repaired the disk.
    5. Plugged the printer and router directly to the wall.
    6. Turned off and restarted my iMac and printer.
    7. Downloaded the most recent OSX software.

It sounds unusual that you have been able to remove the Brother from Printers & Scanners on the iMac and add it back again, yet get a printer offline message.
Since you mention a router, is the Brother connected to it via a physical cable, such as USB? Or do you have a wireless router and the printer is connected to it via WiFi?
On the iMac, could you also open System Information (located in Applications > Utilities) and select Printers in the left column. If the Brother is the only printer on the iMac then its information will appear in the right pane. If you have more than one printer, then you will have a list of those printers in the top right pane. Select the Brother to see its information in the bottom right pane. Can you copy this information and paste back here. And since the MacBook Pro is printing okay, can you perform the same action on it so I can compare the setup for the same printer.

  • Brother MFC-9700 Printer via USB keeps disconnecting

I recently upgraded from an older MacBook Pro running 10.6 to a new Macbook Pro with 10.9.1. I used Migration Assistant and everything went smoothly, but I had to reinstall the printers.
No problem. When I was at my in-laws, I got their wireless printer set up in about 2 seconds, and printed a bunch of shipping labels via stamps.com.
When I got home, I plugged in my Brother MFC-9700 via USB. My computer downloaded some drivers and I got the printer running.
But when I print from Stamps.com via Firefox, I might get it to print once, then for the next label, it says "The Printer is not connected" and the document just sits in the queue.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling all of the printer, resetting the printer system, restarting the computer (several times), restarting the printer, unplugging and replugging the USB cable, downloading the print drivers from the Brother website, installing the printer as a generic PCL printer instead of with the Brother drivers, etc. None of these have provided a permanent fix to the problem.
Once it stops recognizing the printer, if I unplug the USB, restart the printer, plug in the printer again, and reinstall the printer, it might work for a print or two. I can get it to work longer if I have two printers installed, tell it to print to the "wrong" printer, then manually drag the file to the right queue, but that maybe gets me 3-4 prints before it stop working.
I looked at the console, and the errors that come up consistently when trying to print are:
    1/5/14 11:12:49.801 PM cups-exec[4693]: sandbox cache error 3850
    and
1/5/14 11:12:51.645 PM Brother_MFC_9700[4693]: The function `CGContextErase' is obsolete and will be removed in an upcoming update. Unfortunately, this application, or a library it uses, is using this obsolete function, and is thereby contributing to an overall degradation of system performance.
I ship a lot for my business, and of course this is driving me up the wall. Some of my print jobs just diappear into thin air, and with Stamps.com you can only reprint labels immediately after the first printing, so I can't let them all queue up and then deal with the printer, I have to do everything one.by.one.
Any suggestions? The only thing I can think of that I have not tried yet is printing via Safari. I also haven't had the time to see if this is just a problem from stamps.com or Firefox. I did one test print from TextEdit when a printer was being recognized and it worked OK, but I haven't tried anything else yet.
Everything worked fine on my old MacBook pro with 10.6, I am certain there is no problem with the USB cable, and I did disconnect and reconnect it from the printer just in case.
    Help!!

I don't want to return my computer unless I know for sure there is a hardware problem.
Someone in the other thread had the EXACT same problem as me:
"Here's another post-Maverics Brother printing issue:
I have a Brother MFC-8500 connected via USB directly to MacBook Air and the printer shows offline in Printers & Scanners. If I remove the printer from the list of printers and re-add, it will show green and idle. After the first print job, which works fine, the printer will again go red and offline.
Pre-Mavericks, I have used this printer this way for years on my previous MBP. Latest Brother driver was installed 2 days ago.
I just got off a very frustrating call with AppleCare. Laura did not even bother to ask what brand or model, she just told me to call the printer manufacturer. Spoke with next level, Ryan. Told me it was a Brothers issue. Told him that it had worked prior to Mavericks  and he told me to use Time Capsule to go back to Mountain Lion. Informed me that this is 10.9 and no updates were issued yet. This is very frustrating and the service at AppleCare seems to have dramatically gone down hill. They just want to pass the buck."
Someone suggested he play with printer sharing, that the printer falling asleep could be the problem. It looks like printer sharing was already turned on, but I will play with turning it off and on and see if that helps somehow.
I tested this yesterday, and unfortunately, the printer falling asleep does not seem to be the problem. I saved several files as PDFs instead of sending them straight to the printer. Then I sent them all to the printer at the same time. The first file printed, then the computer stopped recognizing the printer. If I played with pausing and unpausing the printer, and dragging the files between two different printer queues, I was able to print them all.
This is extremely frustrating. This is a printer that both Apple and Brother say should work with Mavericks. I had ZERO problems until I upgraded to Mavericks.
