I can't seem to get my iMac (late 2009 model) into automatic sleep mode. If I manually put it into sleep I don't have any issues.
I used to solve the issue by running "PleaseSleep" application but that doesn't work anymore since Lion. I now want to fix the underlying problem.
I'm not running any weird background processes and in my energy saver settings I've tagged "put the hard disk to sleep when possible:, "allow power button to put computer to sleep" and "automatically reduce brigthness". All pretty standard.
Is there anyone who can give me some pointers ?Today I solved the same problem for my iMac running Snow Leopard. See https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3008791#15947706. The method may help you, too.
For me it was the DynDNS Updater preventing my iMac from automatically entering sleep mode.
To my knowledge the cause of this sleep problem can only be a peripheral device or a process. So I suggest to first unplug all peripherals and test whether that's the cause. If not, I suggest to terminate one process after another and to test automatic entering of sleep mode after each. Start with user processes; continue with system process if necessary.
At least that's the way I found the offending process. Fortunately, I was able to change the configuration of that process to allow again automatic entering of sleep mode.

I don't have a wireless printer, and want to print things off of my iPad. I know that I can use the iPad Camera Connection kit to connect USB devices like keyboards and I am wondering if I could do the same with a USB printer.
I don't think you can connect a printer since you won't have the printer drivers. I use FingerPrint from collobos.com to print to my non-AirPrint printers.

Very minor problem: Software update keeps wanting to update my HP printer drivers; I don't have an HP printer any more, and I don't want to waste either the time or the space. How do I tell the software update program I'm not interested in this particular item?

I can't print wirelessly using Airport Express. I have my HP printer connected to a USB hub, and the hub to the Airport Express, but when I select the HP from the printer list, my MacBook says the printer is "off-line" - even when it is not. I've tried several USB connectors, and several different ports on my USB hub; same result. I need to have the HP connected to the hub 'cause from there it's connected to our desktop Mac.

I have changed my DSL router and my Airport express device doesn' work anymore
Hello, After I changed my DSL router (from my internet provider, it's a netgear), my Airport Express doesn't work anymore. It shows a yellow light.
I have tried to unplug several times with no success. The Airport utility on my Mac (running MacOS 10.6.8) doesn't discover it.

Hold in the reset button on the Express and keep holding it in for an additional 7-8 seconds while you simultaneously plug the Express back in to power
Release the reset button after the hold period and allow 40-45 seconds for the Express to restart and come back up to a slow blinking amber light.
Now the Express is back to factory settings
Look for a wireless network with a name like Apple Network xxxxxxx. You have to log on to that network first....no password is required.....then open AirPort Utility -

You may never find it again and you can't if the iPhone remains offline or out of service which means the iPhone is powered off or doesn't have cellular reception. -
I can't print from my iPad2 to my air-print enabled printer (HP Premium e-all-in-one C310). They're on the same network, but have differed IP addresses! The iPad IP is 192-168-1.126 and the printer is 192-168.1.133. That's the only difference I can see. Is there a way to fix this?

you put periods between the numbers.
Each device needs a unique number.
for the 192.168.1 the right must number should vary. 192.168.1.x
the numbers you have look ok.
Power off all devices: wifi router, printer, ipad.. wait 10 minutes. poweron router ... wait power on printer wait then power on ipad.

If you are still having trouble printing after following those steps, I recommend these steps:
Wi-Fi disconnects, or signal strength is less than expected
Move closer to the Wi-Fi router (access point).
Check for sources of potential interference.
Remove any case, stand, or other accessories from your iOS device and see if signal strength improves.
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Note: This will reset all network settings including: previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords, recently used Bluetooth accessories, VPN and APN settings.

Users who don't have the "update user" capability can update users!
Version: Sun IdM 7.0 on Glassfish on Sparc
We have hit a problem/bug whereby a help desk user (which doesn't have the "update user" capability in either their user account or the help desk role) was able to select the campus from the "List Users" tab, and then click "Update Users" from the dropdown, and kickoff a FULL push of data from our HR system to AD. We haven't fully migrated to IdM to provision the accounts (we have another piece of software that does this for now), so needless to say this was not expecting or desired. Some of the users (student workers, mostly) had their email addresses changed from their exchange email to their student email, and other users had their display names changed (which seems like a small thing, but there are a lot of vocal users out there...). We are working on restoring the users that changed.
Does anyone know of a quick and dirty way to disable the "list users" tab until we can figure out how to prevent this from happening again?bump
Has anyone seen this problem besides us?
Also, is there a way to only show this control for administrative users, and not for "help desk" users?

I have to reboot my BTinfinity router to enable me to link my ipod or my iphone to Airport express. When it is connected it works perfectly, I use it to play music through my BOSE soundwave, but it is getting a bind to have to keep switching the router power off. Any one help???
