You may well be simply able to redownload them depending on your location, otherwise you will have to transfer them to iTunes on a computer and then to the phone from iTunes.

But in terms of my initial query; thanks for responding. But no, this is NOT the cause of the problem. I have auto sync and sync over wifi activated, but have also selected manually manage music and videos. Plus, all of my music and videos are on my macbook, absolutely all of it, so if it my phone was syncing with my macbook everything would still be on the phone. Life would be peachy if my phone jsut copied everything that was on my macbook, but unfortuantely it keeps deleting tracks for no apparent reason.
Any thoughts greatly welcomed, because at the moment i can only conclude that my iphone is crap.

I am not sure, which answer you found - so just in case:
If you sync your iPhone with the iPhoto library, the photos will only stay on the iPhone until the next sync and they are not in the Camera Roll. If you transfer using the Photo Stream, they will only be vidsible in the stream, until they are replaced in iCloud by newer content.
So, if you want to transfer the photos permanently, save them to the Camera Roll.

However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. If your iPod is set to update automatically you need to take care connecting to an empty iTunes. You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7 installed hold down the Control and Alt keys (or Shift + Ctrl keys in older versions). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

Hi, I know this question has been asked a lot but for some reason I could not get a clear understanding of what everyone was talking about and my situation might be a tad different.
So I already had an iPhone that was synced to my dell PC. I just got a new macbook pro retina and now I'm trying to transfer my contacts, movies, and music to my mac from my iPhone. However I keep getting a message that says if I sync to this mac then all of my stuff will be deleted from my iPhone. (I am now aware that they mean only iTunes content, but those are still important to me). I still own my PC but there is no way I can connect my PC and Mac together. Is there a way possible that I could "unsync" my iPhone to my PC and sync it to the Mac without erasing the stuff from my iPhone? Are there other methods of syncing my iPhone to my new mac? My last question is that is it possible to transfer purchases from my mac to my iPhone even if it is or isn't synced to the PC or erased of content?
Hopefully this sounds coherent, and thank you all in advance for your help. I'm new to all of this and I really appreciate your time.

It is designed so syncing is one way only (with the exception of iTunes Store purchases) computer to phone. You need to transfer the library from the old computer to the new one so the phone is syncing back to the same library it used to or else it will request you erase the phone.
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its sub-folders and files) intact to the other drive. Hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) and open iTunes. At the prompt to create or choose a library choose the copied iTunes folder.
You can use flash drive for copying, breaking it down into chunks if necessary but making sure they get re-assembled correctly again.
If this is to a new computer and you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there. (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)

You can delete photo stream photos from iCloud by just deleting them on your iPod. My photo stream photos are automatically deleted from iCloud after 30 days anyway. Just so you are aware, deleting photo stream photos doesn't free up any space in your account as they don't use your personal iCloud account storage.
You can't delete music from iCloud because the music isn't stored in your account; it's stored in the iTunes store. What you are seeing are links to your previously purchased music in the iTuens store, allowing you to redownload them if you want to. You can't remove anything from your list of previous purchases. If you don't want to see these "iTunes in the Cloud" purchases in your song list, go to Settings>iTunes & App Store and turn off Music under Show All. LIke photo stream photos, this music doesn't use any of your personal iCloud account storage.
