HT4407 How many GB's Does BootCamp take?

I Have got a MacBook Air from late 2011, and it's "only" got 128GB's discspace, then i wanted to hear about how many GB's does BootCamp Take?

Windows 7 specs out at a *minimum* free drive space of 20GB for the 64 bit version and that would likely be very tight for a working Windows machine.  Given the limited drive space on an SSD (especially if you have the 128GB rather than 256GB drive) I opt for virtualization largely so I can retain one single drive partition rather than having to partition between Windows and OSX.  That is, you can have a small Windows virtual drive and then share folders from OSX that will allow using the space as needed by each operating system.
Of course that requires buying Parallels or VMWare Fusion in addition to Windows, but I figure it's more than than worth it just for the flexibility it gives.
That said, on this 13" Air with a 256GB drive I have an "inherited" 80GB Windows 7 virtual machine (came over from the old MacBook Pro).  On my 11" Air with a 128GB drive I opted to install a new virtual machine on an external SSD, but I don't often need Windows on that machine.
The main downside to virtualization is a slight loss of speed, especially on high end video intensive applications (meaning things like gaming).  However the Intel video chipset in the Air is hardly optimal for that sort of thing to begin with, so I wouldn't have gone for an Air for a machine that was going to be dedicated to doing a lot of that sort of thing.

  • How many BT cooks does it take to spoil a working ...

First of all, this is not a rant but a chronicle of organisational chaos, misinformation and total incompetance!
As of 30th October 2013 I contacted BT three weeks ago to request a working line transfer (BT's terminology). I asked if it was easy to do and BT said "yes, no problem, it's really straight forward".
I was advised to get in touch with BT a minimum of 7 days before the transfer was required. I got in touch 8 days before we needed the transfer (18th October 2013). I had to request a "STOP" for the services on the line we want to take over. Fine.
BT said they had to carry out an "offline transfer" because I had another line at my address and I said okay - would they get in touch to confirm this? Oh yes they said, you will get an email to confirm this but call us if you don't. I didn't get an email so I called. It's all fine and they said "why were you told to request a "STOP"?" I replied that's what I was told to do. They said, "no, you don't need a "STOP"". Okay I said, will it all be fine? "Oh yes, no problem, don't worry".
On or around 21st October 2013, my father-in-law was contacted by BT (at the house we have moved to) and asked if it was okay for the account to be transferred to me. "Yes" he said and BT confirmed with me in another call that this had been done. I thought all was fine.
The top and bottom is that the original advice to request the "STOP" was correct. The advice I was given NOT to ask for a "STOP" was incorrect and has subsequently caused havoc! "You don't need to aks for a "STOP" and I can't understand why you've been advised to do this" BT said.
I was reassured that our working line transfer was on track for 29th October and would be completed by midnight at the latest - I was asked to phone and check if this was the case on our moving day. It wasn't done!
I called on 30th October to report that it hadn't been done and was told not to worry, it would be done by 20:00 GMT. It wasn't done!
I thought I would check on the progress once more and was told that it wouldn't be done after all. The order had not been processed and that my father-in-law had requested a transfer date of 1st November 2013. I checked with my father-in-law and he confirmed that he never gave BT this date. So where did BT get this date from? Did they just make it up to cover their tracks and incompetence? I suspect this was the case. My father-in-law even spoke to them whilst I was on a support call and confirmed this fact. The customer services representative was totally stumped on this information. Make waht you will of this.
I then received a text message to say that the working line transfer could not be processed until 4th November 2013. What? Why? How?
I was then told that it would be completed on 1st November for the telephone line and 6th November 2013 for broadband. What? Why? How?
I phoned at 20:07 GMT this evening and received an automated message to say that our number would be "changed" on 1st November 2013 and the broadband would be reconnected on 6th November. What? Why? How? Are BT disconnecting our telephone line? Are they changing the number? Are they disconnecting the broadband?
I then phoned BT at about 20:15 GMT and got through to the broadband team with difficulty after being cut off twice. I was reassured that it was being dealt with and that the line and broadband was not being disconnected. The supervisor said he would leave a note for another supervisor to follow it up "in the morning". What are the chances of that?
I won't go into why this line "had" to be transfered by 29th October but let's just say that it was a no fail scenario.
The top and bottom of this is that I will be seeking major compensation from BT and looking for an explanation from a senior member of their team. Of course I expect our telephone line and broadband to be disconnected before I can make this call or send an email. We will be moving to a different supplier after being loyal customers for nearly 30 years.
Come on BT, serve your customers and remove the incompetence. After speaking to many different people about this they confirmed that BT would get it all wrong - they have been proven correct.

    Hi Stuart,
Many thanks for responding to my post.
It turns out that BT have made such a major error that we may now have no broadband for 6 days! The issue has been expedited to try and get it sorted.
They have admitted that it is their error and that it is a grave on at that.
I will of course send them an invoice for every day I cannot use broadband for my temporary business set up at the new address. This will be accompanied with a small claims court action. BT cannot be allowed to do this to their customers.
Suffice to say that we will be moving away from BT in the near future to a provider that can get a job done properly.
When I get a moment I'll PM you with the VOL number - I eventually received this yesterday, 30th October 2013.
    All the best,
    Rees.

  • HT204350 How many hours (maximum) does it take to migrate 400  GB from one MacBook Pro to another MBP using Ethernet connection?

How long do I need for migrating data from old MBP to a new MBP?

The fastest way would be to connect the two computers over Firewire, start the new MBP in Target Mode, and either clone the whole hard drive from the old MBP or only copy across the things you need. Doing it that way would take about 1-2 hours depending on how much stuff you're copying.
Ethernet would be a lot slower.

  • How many OSPF Processes does a Cat6500 w/ Sup720 support?

    Hi,
we've to build many vrf's and have to run
    OSPF on each of these.
My question is, how many OSPF Processes does a Cat6500 w/ Sup720 can support?
    regards
    kf

    Harold,
Thanks for the clarification. I hope you don't mind one more question. I have looked it up..http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/software/ios123/123newft/123t/123t_4/gtospfvf.htm
but it is not clear whether multiple vrfs can share the same routing process through the routing context mechanism. If this is not supported yet, then I wonder how scalable this is, and in particular whether service providers will view this as a viable feature considering the demand on resources on a PE router to run multiple (according to the document, depending on platform, up to 10,000!) ospf processes?

  • How many DB space a load takes?

Hi, I would like to know how can I see in the system how many DB space a load takes. I have already monitored the requests and the statistics in the infocube. What I need to know is this for instance: a load of 1,234,567 record takes 3GB in the DB space.
    Hope you can help me.
    Regards.
    Miguel Campos

    Hi Miguel
Try to use tcode DB02 and press the button Detailed analysis. Here you can type a name of a table and get database info on that table, please notice that the correctness of the info depends on when the statistics on the table were updated. Talk to your basis guys about how to interpretate the DB02 figures. But remember that a load can be stored several places at the same time PSA, ODS, ODS change log and cube. So it's difficult to give an exact answer to your question.

  • How many CS Increments will it take to handle ProRes Correctly

Two Simpleton-tests with AE 5.5 revealing that AE still hasn't learned a darn thing in regards to the ProRes Codec
    Test 1:
    1) Import ANY Canon 5DMKII into AE CS5.5
    2) Add it to a new Comp
    3) Add that comp to the render queue
    4) Select ProRes 4444 as output codec
    5) Render and compare with your original Canon Footage
Expected Result in the Quicktime Player 7:
The ProRes File Should look somewhat like the original.
    It does NOT.
    Actual Result
    Gamma is WRONG
    Color is slighty shifted
And Noise/banding has been increased significantly.
    Test 2:
    1) Open Apple's Compressor
    2) Import the same Canon File
    3) Setup a 4444 Codec like in AE
    4) Render out
Expected Result in the Quicktime Player 7:
The ProRes File Should look somewhat like the original.
    It does.
    Actual Result
ProRes transcode looks 100% identical to the source
    Test 2 Expanded
Import the Compressor-created 4444 file into AE and repeat test 1
Expected Result in the Quicktime Player 7:
The ProRes File Should look somewhat like the Compressor-Created file.
    It does NOT.
    Actual Result
    Gamma is TOTALLY WRONG
Color is LESS shifted than when exporting the Canon file directly
Noise/banding is MORE than the compressor created file but LESS than when exporting the canon file directly...
I am more or less speechless. I have been reading about this problem on a million blogs. Including adobe's own.
Since at least since CS3. There have been several invain work-arounds. And now this. CS 5.5 - with the same problem.
Adobe, how many versions do you need to get it right.
Perhaps, you could look a little a Apple's technology, as it seems to be much more effective and advanced than yours.

    Hi Rick,
    first things FIRST ;-)
Thank you very much for taking the time to make that post.
My color settings in AE are correct. And I am using a color managed workflow -)
It plays NO PART whether I enable the "Use Legacy Gamma"....
Your example is correct in BUT it only applies to the realm in which you created it > RGB
and it does not exhibit temporal H264 artifacts stemming from a YUV 4:2:0 (609 Color Space) Matrix
You dont exaclty round-trip the way that I was describing a rountrip in my initial post.
I know that a ramp can reveal certain things but it is a highly virtual comparison and does not really apply to live-worl  footage.
At least in this case ;-)
You take RGB-generated grays and then output to ProRes
I took a YUV-color-realm movie entered into the realm of RGB (AE) and then exported to ProRes
And THAT is where the problem lies.
I am uploading the file in question. It is a movie from the 5DMKII.
That is the source I have been testing with all along.
It is great in that it has a dark area with quite a bit of noise. THAT noise after AE has encoded it to ProRes will look banded and become worse.
Not so when encoding with Compressor.
Besides, and this I cannot wrap my head around, when compressor is compressing the exact same file it is 295MB in size but when doing it with AE it is 413.
    Something wrong there ?
Anyway, here is the link to the file if you wanna try with that.
I am uploading a screen shot to show you which area you should look out for.
And rememeber this is NOT visible when looking at it in AE. you HAVE to rountrip and open the source and the rountripped file in the Quicktime Player.
Remember, most folks are WATCHING the movies in the quicktime player on OS X... So I would LIKE my files looking identical to the source when watched in the QT player. I dont believe that any consumer out there, just aiming to watch a movie has AE installed so that he can watch the movie in the way I (all AE users) intended it to look.
Adobe we NEED this to work.
When/if you do the test - make a real world comparison.
Open the Original source in AE and out-encode it to PR4444.
Then open the quicktime player and load up both (PR4444 and ORG source)
Put them on top of each other and flip back n forth. Huge difference in the area that I have hi-lighted in SS below.
The noise in the original is very present in the original file in that area...
When looking at adobes encode the noise has become large square fields(almost) looks a little like banding.
When using Apple's compressor to rountrip it looks exactly like original.
Might I add, taking the original file and opening it directly in AME (bypassing AE altogether) will have the same impact on the file
as when exported directly from AE. So it seems as if adobes Quicktime encoding framework has a bug altogether. I tried all of this with the
cineform codec as well. When using adobe to encode to cineform it displayed the same artifacts.

  • How many DMA Channels does my device have?

I would like to know how I can find out (progammatically) how many DMA channels my device has. I am using the DAQmx driver. Other than with the traditional DAQ I can't find out anything about my device but the "type" and the "serial number". Where can I get some more details about the device (not in the MAX - I want to know it in my program) with DAQmx?
My intention is to find out how many DMA Channels the device has and depending on how many Channels I need - I am using "interrupts" instead of DMA.
Somewhere in the KB of Ni was written that the NI-DAQ 6.9.... realizes automatically how many DMA Channels are available and how many I would need - and so he takes "interrupts" for the rest.
It seems that they did a "step bac
kwards" because with the NI-DAQ 7.2 it doesn't work automatically if I need DAQmx VI's.
Does somebody know anything that would help me to solve this problem?
    Thanks.

Sorry! I posted my first revision of the answer.
Here is what I meant to say:
    Hello,
According to this KnowledgeBase, DAQmx and Traditional DAQ behave the same. Are you seeing something different?
As far as a workaround goes, all you have to do is trap the No DMA error. This error should be -200251. So in software, if you receive error -200251, then you need to configure the board to use interrupts, and then start the task again.
How to configure the board for interrupts differs from the four different DAQmx APIs (C, C++, DotNET, and LabVIEW). If you are unclear about how to do this in your environment, please let us know, and we can find
    out.

  • How many route entries does 3945E or/and 3900 ISR G2 support

    hello guys:
I have a question concerning about how many ospf and bgp route entries does 3945E isr g2 router support?
    cheers
    tony xi

    Tony,
This question can't be answered in general. It depends foremost on the amount of available memory in the router. With 256MB of RAM, you can expect that the router can manage roughly tens of thousands of routes. The full BGP routing table (not the BGP database) consumes around 70MB, however, the full BGP RIB on one of the route-views project routers consumes over 1100 MB of RAM (this also depends on the number of BGP peers and the amount of data sent to it by individual BGP neighbors). The exact number is impossible to determine, as it depends on the amount of other control information that the router has to store in its RAM - for example, OSPF LSDB, BGP RIB, the CEF and adjacency tables, etc. etc. etc.
So you can assume that 256MB of RAM should be working for deployments up to the order of tens of thousands but this has to be taken with a very, very rough and unreliable estimate.
    Best regards,
    Peter

  • How many external displays does the 15 inch support?

I spend 90% of my time at a desk developing, using multiple monitors.  My current Windows system can support up to 4 displays, normally I run with 3.  I was wondering how many external displays one can hook up to the 2.3GHz Macbook Pro.  I need at least 3 displays while still having a thunderbold for external drives and eithernet.  Does the Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter allow splitting the single to two different monitors?  Other then the Thunderbolt display, is there a way to get multiple monitors out of one Thunderbolt port?

From http://support.apple.com/kb/SP690 -> "Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 2560 by 1600 pixels on up to two external displays, both at millions of colors".
But there may be ways of driving three monitors - maybe someone with a Retina Display model will jump in. I know that on my 15" 2011 model, I can only drive two Apple Thunderbolt Displays.
    Good luck,

  • How many apps can my iPad take?

Hello guys please I need to know how many pages of apps I can download my iPad is 32GB + 3G I downloaded ten pages of apps and now it doesn't want to download more is that the maximum point? Please someone help!

If you want to create folders - tap and hold down on an app icon until the icon begins to wiggle. Then drag that icon onto another app icon and it will create a folder. The iPad will suggest a name for the folder which you can keep or rename. A white horizontal bar will appear with the name of the folder. Just tap in the white bar to select the text, and delete and rename it. Tap any where on the screen outside of the folder and the folder will close. Tap the home button and the icons will stop wiggling and the screen is set.
You can add 20 apps to each folder. You can have more apps than your iPad can hold by keeping them in your iTunes library and syncing the apps back to the iPad as needed. You can download apps on your computer in iTunes - you don't have to download them directly to the iPad.

  • How many iPhone backups does iTunes keep?

I've found where you find the iTunes iPhone backup files (~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup). But I would like a list of how many backups I have. Those files are very cryptic and the dates are all over the place. I want to see if I have a week's worth, or month, etc...
    Thanks.

You can check in iTunes: Edit/Preferences/Devices, you should see a panel with a list of dated backups. For me there is only one. I haven't figured out yet if it's possible to make it do more than one.
The page sited in prior post says "Since iTunes only keeps one backup per device..." so maybe it's always one. Apple suggest that the directory where iTunes backups are kept should be backed up elsewhere (Timemachine, etc) to give access to multiple backups. Not so convenient.
This page (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414) implies there are multiple backups by showing a dropdown list where you can pick one. It's a bit misleading.
The dilemma I would like to solve is that, through some blunders on my part, I lost some app data that I would like to recover. I was upgrading OS on the iPhone, and in that process two backups were taken automatically. The second one did not have the data I want back. I was hoping there were several backups and that I could restore the data from one of them. Seems it's not so.

  • How many email accounts does the iphone4 support?

Wanted to know how many different e-mail accounts will the new iphone4 support?
    thanks

If there is an email account limit with the iPhone or with the current firmware version and with any previous firmware versions, I'm not aware of it. You shouldn't have any problem creating and accessing 6 email accounts.

  • How many devices (iPods) does Wi-Fi sync support simultaneously in iOS5?

I have 3 iPod Touch 3gen/4gen in my house.  They are setup and all work with WiFi sync individually but I can only get two to show up at any one time in iTunes and I'm not sure how it manages to decide which iPod to show and which one to not show.  Is two the maximum number of devices to show in iTunes 5 via Wi-Fi at once?  I want to make sure that they all sync at least once a day or so.  If you have multiple devices are they 'rotated' somehow by iTunes or am I gonna be stuck connected the 'odd iPod out'  (which varies from time to time) via cable to PC?.
I want to pick up two more touches which may make the issue even more confusing.  I'd like to get it settled for three before I buy my other two.
WIndows 7, latest iTunes.  IPod firmware all up to date and all are setup in iTunes and in the iPod's settings to sync via Wi-Fi.  Again, all work individually but only two show up on the left hand column in iTunes.
