Just go to MS Office, download a free trial, enter the product key from the MS Office software that you purchased, and voila!  So easy!
Does this solution work on different versions of software (in this case MS Office)?  I don't keep up with all the releases so the dates are probably wrong in the following examples.  Lets assume I owned MS Office 07 and I wanted to use your solution.  I assume the MS website DOESN'T offer free trials of outdated software.  So, I go on their website, download MS Office 2011 and then enter my product key from MS Office 2007.  Are you saying that will work?
Personally for me, I don't give two hoots about getting the latest MS Office. So, if I have a working copy of an earlier edition, that's the one I want to install.  And yes, for you NO-NO people, I do remove the software from my previous computers when I do this before I sell them.
Even if I could upgrade my previous version, I wouldn't want to as it would be a waste of my time during the learning curve.  In fact I'm paying this penalty now in that I'm using MS Office 08 that my wife bought (3 computer version) and insisted I put on my computer to help her on her's.  I was using MS Office 03 and hate the 08 pull down menus.  Since I use the program infrequently, I find myself staggering around trying to find this and that when with the '03 version, it would be simply click and done.

Because there is no disc drive to install the program with, how do I go about installing the program?

    I assume you never read my reply;
Download the Office trial copy at www.mactopia.com and run the installer. Enter your license code when prompted to activate the trial version.

  • Microsoft Office and MacBook Air

    Hello everyone,
I have just bought a MacBook Air 13 inches (4GB) and I am about to install Microsoft Office. The problem is I remember that when I installed it on my MacBook Pro, the softwares would run very slowly and would always have bugs. Should I avoid installing Microsoft Office on my new MacBook Air ??
    Thanks for your help

I do agree but was only mentioning Pages since that offers "some" sort of compatibility...this has always been a problem with word processors.  When I was actually using WordPerfect heavily, there was conversion capability for Word documents...well, that was a major overstatement...the conversion actaully only worked on plain text.  And that was sometimes garbbled.  Tables and equations, which I use heavily as an engineer, forget it.  Not possible.  And Excel and Quattro Pro conversion was a disaster.
So I agree, before buying into a package, underestand the true capability of conversion to other formats.  And honestly assess your goals for compatibility with other products and your needs for those other products.  If you really want the features of a particular product, just buy that product and avoid conversion frustrations.
Never tried LibreOffice, may have to try it just to see what it is like.

  • Microsoft Office on Macbook Air

How am I supposed to install Microsoft Office on my Macbook Air? I heard that it was in CD form but Macbook Airs dont have the CD slot... please help!!!

It might be a good idea to learn a bit more about your new computer - like how to share the optical drive of another computer. If you don't have another computer handy you might consider buying an inexpensive external optical drive. Or, become familiar with software vendors' download sites. Go to Microsoft's Mac page and download the appropriate package. If you've already bought the DVD be sure to download the file that matches what you bought. You can then use the serial number that came with the box. Another option is to put the DVD into another computer and drag the installer onto a flash drive (this is my favorite solution since it is usually faster than downloading a large program.)

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
If you have another Mac or PC, you can use Remote Disc to install Office > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5287?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
If you haven't got any other computer, then you have to buy an optical drive. You can buy the external optical drive you want, without having to buy the official SuperDrive

  • Installing Microsoft Office on MacBook Pro

    Hello,
I recently purchased a late 2011 15' MacBook Pro with 4 gb of ram and would like to purchase the 2011 Microsoft Office Suite for Mac, which is 3 gb.  If i download the suite, will my MacBook Pro slow down significantly as a result, or just occupy most of the free space?  Thanks much.

If you got a late 2011 MBP then it came with either a 500GB or 750GB hard drive.
Hard drive space is not Memory. It is Storage space. Memory is the amount of RAM installed in your system, which is 4GBs of RAM.
So if you download MS Office 2011 for Mac that download will take up 3GBs of Storage Space.
Then you need to install that group of programs. Installing iot will again use more Storage Space. About 3-4GBs.
It will not use any memory, RAM, until you open, or run, one of those programs so can use it to view edit and create documents with them.
You have plenty of hard drive space and enough Memory, RAM, to use any of those programs any time you like.

  • Microsoft Office for Macbook Air

    Hi
I purchased microsoft office for my iMac last year.  I have now bought my daughter a Macbook Air.  Can I put the same version on her Macbook?  If so, how do I do it? Or do I have to purchase it all again?
Thanks in advance for your help.

I believe that Migration Assistant will allow you to copy all your apps from the iMac to the new MBA. Try it - that's the best way to ensure your license information transfers properly so that Office won't complain.
You should also consider that there are alternatives to Office. Most are better and some are free. OpenOffice and LibreOffice are but two.

  • How to install for free Microsoft Office on macbook air when already installed it on iMac ?

I installed on my iMac at home Microsoft-Word for Mac (v. 14.3.6) and would like to also install it for free on my matchbook air. How do I do ? I also subscribed yesterday to Microsoft 365 subscription to use the new Office for iPad; will this help ?

Since you subscribed to Office365 just log into your account at Microsoft and in the upper right hand corner select My Account. There you'll be able to download Office for your computer. You'll also want to go to Apple's App Store and download the OneDrive app to sync your documents to OneDrive so you can view/edit them on your iPad and keep your two computers synced.

  • TS1388 I'm trying to install Microsoft Office for Mac 2011. Halfway through the installation process, the MacBook Air tells me that I must quit Safari before the installation can continue. As far as I can tell, Safari is closed but I still get the same me

I'm trying to install Microsoft Office for Mac 2011. Halfway through the installation, the MacBook Air tells me that I must close Safari for the installation to continue. As far as I can tell, Safari IS closed. I can't discover any process that will close it any more than it is now. Installer won't let me shut down or re-start the computer because it (Installer) is still running.
    What am I missing?

The MS installer seems to think Safari is active so try the following...
Right-click on the Safari icon in the Dock and if applicable, select Quit.
    or
Try Utilities > Activity Monitor and look for Safari in the Process Name column.  If present, highlight Safari and then click the Quit Process icon.

  • Will installing Microsoft office on my mac air 2gb 64mb slow my system down, I don't have music or big files currently on my device?

If I install Microsoft office on my mac air 2gb 64mb, will it slow my system down?  I also have a macbook pro that i dont take out the house with Microsoft office already installed.  Am I best to install Pages on the mac air or will it cause compatibility issues when working on files between the two devices?
    Any help appreciated

The big question I have is this: is it your intention to work on the same documents on both the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro? If so, I strongly suggest that you pick one program and use it on both. Pages and Word are both good word processors but they really are not compatible - rather Pages can read Word files and be forced to create Word files. But the reading and writing isn't perfect and sometimes the amount of work required to re-edit a translated file is substantial.
Installing Office on the MacBook Air isn't going to slow it down unless your hard drive is already very full and Word should run okay on it (though you might not be able to run Word at the same time as you run other programs).

  • HT5287 install office in Macbook air

hi i want to buy one product key for microsoft office 2011 from ebay for my Macbook air. (the office has three cd keys, seller used two already) is it legal to purchase it? how can i install it in my macbook air without a cd room? can i use the cd key to download the software from Microsoft.com? thanks!

You may want to visit the Mactopia web site and research the licensing requirements. As far as I know, there aren't three CD keys. The product comes with one key that can be used by three users in the same family.
So, no, it doesn't sound like a legal purchase.

  • I have Microsoft Office 2011 Student Edition installed on MacBook Pro; Can I install Microsoft Office Windows 2008 onto Mac without deleting Microsoft Office 2011?

I have previously installed Microsoft Office Student Edition 2011 on my MacBook Pro.  While installing Microsoft Office 2008 Windows; message prompts to delete Microsoft Office 2011.  Is there a way around this issue?

Office 2008 was a Mac version. The equvalent Win version is 2007. So there is no "Office 2008 Windows." Which version are your trying to install?
Are you using Boot Camp to run Win on your MBP and want to install Office for Win there? I can't see that being a problem..
I do know that the regular version of Office Mac won't run properly if the trial version is present. The installer is set up to look for other versions, resumably to keep the trial version and the regualr from clashing.
Office Mac 2011 is equiv to Office for Win 2010
    Office Mac 2008   "    "     " Office for Win 2007
    Office Mac 2004   "    "     " Office for Win 2003

Just to be clear, Office 2010 is for Windows.  Office 2011 is for Mac.  If you actually are trying to install Office 2010, you'll need to have installed Windows on your Mac either through Boot Camp or in a virtual machine.
