As laverne's mom said, Norton's should never be installed on any Mac - period. I would not let it within 10 feet of my machines. It creates so many problems, it should be considered malware. If you must install AV software, try ClamXAV; it is free. However, there are no viruses for Mac; the current problem is a trojan and if due diligence is observed, there is no problem. -
I have old MacBook running OS 10.6.8 I was told in Apple Genius Bar that I need a code from apple support to upgrade to 10.7. Apple support will not help because I am have their support plan. Can some one help?

Yes the idea is to backup the laptop - I thought I would just move it all now, new - and then keep saving/dragging physically across to the new drive myself each day or two...
Would this be the sizeof the internal hard drive = c.500 gb ? = under the HD icon on desktop is written :

I can erase and start agin on the new external drive - so this plan is to make two partititions, rather than the one at present, and make one of them 500 gb ?
I have found CCC [carbon copy cloner] googling - looks good.
When CCC site says it backs up the hard drive - would this mean all my files [over 100 gb] that are mostly in folders on the desktop, plus the others in itunes, iphotos etc found in the HD icon, would all copy across successfully [wherever they are in the computer ] ?

I recently migrated my MacBook from 10.5.8 to 10.6.8, using the Snow Leopard CD I purchased from Apple. Since then I have noticed a strange ozone smell coming from the MacBook in the area where the hinges are to open and close the unit. I was told by Apple that it probably is not serious and is coming from the fans in the MacBook. It is true that the smell/odor is more intense when the fans are working. Apple said I should take the MacBook to an Apple Store to have the hardware checked out. Everything seems to be working correctly. I am backing up automatically wirelessly to a Time Capsule, which I had not done until recently, although I had purchased the Time Capsule in 2009. I have not noticed this odor before. Does anyone suspect something more serious that may be going on?
You may be smelling it because with the new OS the processor is having to work harder causing it to get hotter then it would with the other OS. I can't say there is nothing wrong, but what could be happening is just that, it's getting hotter so the fan is spinning faster and moving more air so you are getting more of the smell then you would before. I would still continue to back it up, and take it to the Apple Store at a Genius Bar and have them look at it to make sure. Was the computer ever in a smoky environment??

I can't get to computer help menus, get error not available at this time. I was told by apple that the problem is with Hughesnet Gen 4. I called them and they have no answers. No other problems accessing the net.I have lots of questions as I am new to Mac and this is very frustrating. Can anyone help?

When I bought my Iphone 5, (Not 5S or 5C) from apple store, I was told by apple customer service that it is 4G compatible. I have always been with Vodaphone and I tried to upgrade my sim only contract to 4G. I have been told last week by Vodaphone that original Iphone 5 is not 4G compatible. Does anybody please tell me if it is or it isn't 4G compatible?

Why are you disappointed? Apple was 100% correct, the iPhone 5 is a "4G" LTE device. Whether it is compatibable with your carriers 4G/LTE network is something that you, as the user, must confirm prior to purchase. If EE is the only supported LTE carrier in the UK, that is unfortunate but something that could have easily been found out at/before purchase.
When asking about 4G compatibility, did you simply ask if it was a 4G/LTE device or did you specifically ask it if would work with your carrier on their 4G/LTE network? -
I cannot find my iPhoto upgrader in Finder...I was told to go to the Go menu and click on Utilities...this is not an offered option...and nothing comes up in the search box...I have upgraded to OS X Yosemite, downloaded the iPhoto app to go with it, and the iPhoto upgrader...just can't find the upgrader...
In the finder applications folder ==> Utilities -- double click the iphoto library upgrader and then launch iphoto 9.6.1

I changed my apple id, but my ipad does not allow me to change it for Icloud, so I can't edit my account so I can access Icloud. I was told at Apple store that I could use both Apple ids, but my old one is no longer recognized on the appleid website, so my password for my old apple id won't work.
Any suggestions?If you only changed the name of your ID rather than creating a new ID, just go to Settins>iCloud and tap Delete Account then sign back in with the new name. (Deleting the account from your phone does not delete it from iCloud. Your data will be synced back to your phone when you sign back in.)
If you created a new ID, you'll have to go to Settings>iCloud on your phone and turn all data you are syncing with iCloud (contacts, calendars, etc.) to Off. When prompted choose to keep the data on your iPhone. (If you are syncing iWork documents with iCloud, also open your iWork apps and turn off iCloud syncing and choose to keep the documents on your phone.) After everything is turned off, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account. Next, set up a new iCloud account using your other ID, then turn syncing for your data (contacts, etc.) back to On. When prompted, choose Merge. This will upload the data to your new account.
You won't lose any photos in your camera roll or photo library. If you have any photos in your photo stream that are over 30 days old that are not in your camera roll or saved on your computer, be sure to save these to the camera roll before deleting the account. To do so, open the photo stream album on your iPhone in the thumbnail view, tap Edit, tap all the photos you need to save to select them, tap Share, then tap Save to Camera Roll. -
I recently purchased a MacBook Air and was told by Apple that Keynote and Pages were compatible with MS Applications.. I have since tried to open a Powerpoint Presentation but it comes up with an error message and is not right. Help!
If there are fonts, transitions, builds, video or audio in the PowerPoint file that are not compatible with Keynote, it will either prevent the presentation opening or Keynote will substitute the settings causing playback changes.
I use Open Office to play and open any PowerPoint files sent to me, they play exactly as in PowerPoint.

I want to update or upgrade my iphone 4 to 5.0 or 6 higher how can I do this ? I my unable to sign into Itunes I was told to reset all the settings to "factory" If I reset evevything ,will I loose all my contacts, emails, notes, or any other information that I have saved into my phone (photos, apps, emails, ) Just as if I had a brand new phone ? Don't reset anything, just connect it to iTunes. If you don't have iTunes on a computer, then find someone who does, turn off auto sync, then connect your iphone and click 'check for updates'. iTunes will download the update, then update that software to your phone. Before you update though, I'd make a backup, just to be on the safe side.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

Why would Apple replace or repair the phone for free? Will a car manufacturer replace or repair the car you drove into a wall for free? If you sit on your spectacles, will the optician give you another pair for free?
