HT4431 I'm updating from iPhoto 8.1.2 to 9.4.1 (Good luck!)

I'm updating from iPhoto 8.1.2. I have 9.4.1 and the other intermediary updates. What I am missing is 9.0.1. It does not seem to exist, though APple points to it on this page. When you click on the link, it takes you to 9.1. What now?

Gosh, Terence, if I knew that I needed to make a purchase, I'd not be posing a question here. I did already make a purchase, though it may not have been the correct one.
Before you read on, by all means, let me know what I need to purchase. I say that because the rest of my post is partly a rant, though a reasoned one.
So I've worked this issue both backwards and forwards. I bought the latest version of iPhoto, version 9.4.1. But when I booted it, i was told that I needed version 9.x.x. The older version kept asking for the next oldest version. OK. So I went the other way. I started with my own version: 8.1.2. I added updates 'til I arrived at this impasse: both the 8 series needed the very first 9 series and the oldest 9 series needed the very first 9 series. That version, acc to Apple, is called version 9.0.1. It doesn't exist on Apple's update/upload pages. I used Google to find a discussion of it. Great! Not only did I find a discussion, the writer was kind enough to hotlink "9.0.1" to the web page on which it, supposedly, was available. No such luck: Both times I tried, I got the same Apple page which did not offer 9.0.1, but only 9.1.
The goal: use iPhoto and Preview to edit my RAW files. I have downloaded the (free) latest update to do so. Now all I have to do is to get iPhoto (and Preview) to work.
If, when starting from 8.1.2, a purchase was needed, it sure would have been great had Apple made a note of it. If there was no way to get from 8.x.x to 9.x.x without a purchase, it sure would have been great had Apple made a note of it somewhere.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
    1. If I update from iPhoto 4.0.3 to iLife 08 am I going to lose all my Albums?
No. But always back up prior to an update. However your library will be fine and exactly as you expect.
    2. When I export an album to a desktop file to burn it to a disk readable by TVs etc, the photos don't appear in the order that they are in the album. What have I done wrong?
How did you layout the album? Drag the pics into order, for instance? The Finder, which decides the order when you export works on a strictly alpha-numeric basis. The trick is to title the pics in iPhoto and use those titles as filenames on export. I iPhoto 08 this is done in the File -> Export dialogue. I'm not sure how this is done in v4.

  • HT5037 Unable to initiate updater from iPhoto 7 to iPhoto '11.

After downloading and installing the iPhoto Updater (to update from iPhoto 7.1), the system will not allow updating to the new iPhoto despite having upgrading to Mavericks and downloading iPhoto '11.
I installed OS X Mavericks. Then I downloaded iPhoto '11. When trying to open iPhoto '11 I get a message "To prepare the library, use the iPhoto Library Upgrader available from Apple."
I go to the link, install the updater (the system confirms the updater was installed successfully), but now I am stuck...When I try to open iPhoto '11 again (NB: the old iPhoto icon is gone), I get the message "To prepare the library, use the iPhoto Library Upgrader available from Apple." again...even though I just installed the updater.
    Any suggestions for troubleshooting?
After speaking with Tech Support the updater can be found in the utilities folder.

Does the contents of the disk look like this in the Finder?
That's a disk created via the Share ➙ Burn menu in iPhoto.

I just updated from my lion 10.7.5 to maverick 10.9.1 and was told that my iPhoto 8.1.2 would be a free upgrade to the new iPhoto version?? but I cannot find an update ??

    Bad information
Updates from previous ov iPhoto '11 are free - upgrades from older versions like iPhoto '08 are purchases - you can run your current version under Mavericks if you do not wish to upgrade

  • Tip for Updating from iPhoto 5 to iPhoto 6

A number of users have reported problems with updating iPhoto 5 to iPhoto 6. With that in mind I'd like to post these tips to help you achieve a smooth transition.
1 - rebuild the library by launching iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options.
2 - download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, putting your administartive name in the owner and group sections. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
3 - make a temporary backup copy of the iPhoto Library folder.
4 - install iPhoto 6, update to the latest version with Software Updates.
5 - download an manually run the iPhoto 6.0.5 updater (it will only run on iPhoto 6.0.4).
6 - update Quicktime to 7.1.3 if you already haven't.
7 - repair disk permissions with Disk Utility.
You are now ready to launch iPhoto 6 for the first time and update your library. Hopefully these pre-update "shenanigans" will help in a smooth transition. Good luck.

No you do not need to worry about that but if want to be one hundred percent sure you should back it up with itunes that way you can be sure nothing will be lost ...
    Heres How to back up
Connect your iOS device to a computer with the latest version of iTunes installed.
Open the iOS device's Summary tab. There are two ways to access this:
Click the device button in the upper right corner. (If viewing the iTunes Store, click the Library button in the upper right corner. The device button will then be visible.)
From any view in iTunes, click the View menu and select Show Sidebar. Select your iOS device in iTunes under Devices.
Click the Back Up Now button.
To verify that the backup finished successfully, open iTunes Preferences and select the Devices tab. The name of the device will appear along with the date and time the backup was created.
    i hope this helped

  • I updated from iPhoto 09 to 11 and lost pictures

I also checked and can't find them in my pictures folder on my computer. Thanks for the help!

    Please explain more.
Are all photos missing or only some?
Are you seeing a completely empty iPhoto Library, or are some events showing?
I also checked and can't find them in my pictures folder on my computer.
Did you keep the iPhoto library in the default location in the Pictures folder?
And how did you upgrade from iPhoto '09 to '11? Did you perhaps uninstall iPhoto '09 before updating? If yes, how?

  • Updating from iPhoto 4.0.3 to iPhoto 6

I recently had a new hard drive installed in my 2005 iBook, and the HD came with iPhoto 4.0.3. I've just updated the OS to 10.4.9, and now I need to update iPhoto, so that I can access photos that I uploaded to my old HD, which had iPhoto 6.0. In order to do so I need interim updates (5.0, 6.0) to get to 6.6.
None of these updates appears to be available on the downloads page. Is there somewhere else I can get them?

    Alan:
Is there no third party application or freeware that can read 04 libraries?
Yes, there is. One is iView MediaPro which you can run in demo mode for 30 days. See Tutorial #1 for directions to catalog your library folder with it. Another is QPict which can read the albums and rolls.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Time to update from iPhoto

Just a minor anoyance which for which I'm hoping there is a quick fix.
When I put new photos into iPhoto on my iMac, it always seems to take a few days before they appear on the Apple TV.
They always do get there, but not till after everyone has lost the interest in seeing them on the big screen.
Is there a setting for how often the Apple TV checks for up dates that I may have wrong, is there a way of forcing an update, or could the problem lie in my iPhoto?
    Thanks,
    David.

Apps can only be updated by the Apple ID that originally bought them. Apple does not merge Apple ID accounts and Apple does not transfer apps from one ID to another. To update these apps you will need to recover the old Apple ID.

  • Updating from iPhoto does not happen automatically

The update just stops after 30 % and I get an error message.

This is from an iPhoto help file:
By default, iPhoto copies photos imported from your hard disk, leaving the originals in their original location and making duplicates for use in the iPhoto library.
However, if you already have an extensive collection of photos saved on your computer and you prefer to leave your photos in their current file structure, you can choose to have iPhoto point to your original photo files instead of copying them in iPhoto. Either way, you can still make full use of iPhoto.
To set advanced options for photos imported from your hard disk:
    Choose iPhoto > Preferences
    Click Advanced.
Select or deselect “Copy items to the iPhoto Library.”
Deselecting this option means that iPhoto will not duplicate photos when importing them into the application, but will leave them in their original files on your computer. When you edit these images in iPhoto, however, the edited versions will be saved in the iPhoto library, not your original files. Your original files remain untouched.
As you can see from the above, iPhoto offers an option to save disk space by not copying the files into the iPhoto Library. Also, when importing from a camera, iPhoto offers to delete the original file after importing it. However I do not see the solution you are looking for, which is to indicate where on your disk the original photo files came from if you have the default option on to simply copy the photos into your iPhoto Library.

  • How do I update from iPhoto 7.1.5 to the newest version?

I don't have much memory on my computer.  I have TONS of photos.  Many are large format and Photoshop files.  I'm trying to get all my photos saved onto iCloud and off my computer, however I need to update my outdated iphoto '08 to the latest version first. Help!

I don't use iCloud so someone here may be able to help you regarding Cloud backups and space limitations. What is the total  GB that your photo collections take?
However, it is very critical if you have precious data on your computer to have AT LEAST one external backup system. It could be a Time Machine or a regular and updated clone of your drive, and ideally both. I use a Time Machine and TWO clones.
Also it might be a good idea to post the specs of your computer. If it dates back to 2008 then today's new hard drives are at least 4 times larger than those shipped then. I know because I started with a 250GB drive, upgraded to a 750GB drive and have just ordered a 1 TB drive this week! But the most important thing is to have a backup of all your data, and ideally a backup of your backup!

  • Will Snow Leopard update from iPhoto '09 to '011?

On my iMac I use iLife '09 and was going to upgrade iPhoto to '011 but it looks from the App Store as though I need OS v10.7.5 whereas I am on 10.6.8.  I know somebody who has the same OS as mine and also runs iPhoto '011 but on v9.2.3.   Will the latest version of v9.4.2 work with Snow Leopard?

What scanner is it? Have you checked the developer's website to see if they offer drivers for Lion or Mt. Lion?
