HT4437 airplay no longer works...

Hi
I have a bad wifi connection in the house so bought a powerline netgear booster- the signal is now much better but airplay no longer works. Airplay is set up with speakers throughout the house (wired in) with panels on the walls in different rooms to switch it on and off . After reading up on things I thought it may be because our devices playing the music are now on a different wifi network than the airplay. Can anyone confirm this for me and let me know if there is anything I can do to rectify the problem... PLEASE.
Thanks. x

They do need to be on the same network.

  • Airplay no longer working on iTunes 11.1.3 Windows 8.1

I have a PC connected by ethernet cable to a router, which is sending a wireless IPv4 signal to an airport express on my home network, which is in turn connected to some speakers. I also have an Apple TV connected to the same network. Airplay worked fine in the previous version of iTunes, but since 11.1.3 airplay no longer works properly.
On a fresh reboot of the PC & opening iTunes, the airplay icon appears, and airplay works as normal. However, after an arbitrary amount of time (usually between 3-10 minutes) the airplay feature becomes unresponsive, and the only way to remedy it is a fresh reboot of the PC.
However, I can play music from my iPhone through the Airport Express to the speakers, and I can mirror audio from my macbook through the AE to the speakers, but iTunes can't see anything with airplay (no speakers, no Apple TV) and the remote app on my iPhone iOS 7 can find the Apple TV, but can't find my shared library on the PC.  So it's not a proble with the AE, or with the router.
Other PC users with a similar issue who are connecting to their router by WiFi have reported a that turning off IPv6 appears to be a usable workaround, but I can report that it does not work for me when connecting to the router by ethernet cable.
Also, the Airport utility can see the AE after a fresh reboot, but again after a few minutes it can no longer see the AE.

yes this is happening to me....

  • Airplay no longer works with iTunes

Airplay no longer works with iTunes 10.6; try to stream to speakers connected to Airplay device--use to work fine. Now, in iTunes, the icon in the bottom corner actually says 2 speakers, as it should, but when I open it it only shows speakers connected to computer directly. I have tried re-installing the AirPort utility and configuring it in every which way. I have tried turning off IPV6 in the network. Nothing seems to work.

I noticed this too and think it's by design. The new master volume slider in the AirPlay window is set at the highest volume in your list of speakers. Drag either the master volume or your external speaker slider to max, and you should get normal volumes out of your Airport Express speakers.
Unfortunately, the volume slider on the iTunes window seems to be the master volume now, rather than just the volume for the computer. So if you mute the computer using that slider, you mute all speakers. To mute just the computer, you have to do it though the AirPlay speaker list now. Unless I'm missing a preference setting somewhere... thought there used to be something in iTunes or Airport Utility that let you toggle this behavior, but I don't see anything now...

  • AirPlay no longer working reliably on Snow Leopard

I'm on Mac OS X 10.6.8 with latest patches installed, including iTunes 10.6.3. Mac Mini with 8GB RAM. All components connected to home network via wired Ethernet (no wifi involved). Components use fixed IP addresses.
I've been using AirPlay with my AVR very reliably for couple months to play music using Home Sharing. I have also ATV as well as AE, which I've used for whole home audio setup. It's awesome and I've been very happy with this setup.
I've had the system unplugged from about middle of April 2012, and replugged in the middle of July. No changed components, and with no hardware changes in the home network. Since then however, AirPlay no longer works reliably.
    The symtoms are as follows:
    1. I start iTunes, get the AirPlay icon, select the AVR destination, playback works fine
    2. On the AVR, I switch to another audio input (like ATV, or PS3), which obviously makes iTunes to stop playing the music
    3. From this moment on, iTunes is no longer able to play music to _any_ of the AirPlay destinations, i.e. not to AVR, not to ATV and neither to AE - if I hit Play button in iTunes, no error is displayed, just the song position in iTunes doesn't advance, and no sounds comes out of the remote speakers; if I switch to local (computer) speakers, it works
If I Quit iTunes and start it again, it again works, until AVR source switch. For sure, this makes for mighty hassle to the extend it's barely usable at all.
The problem can be triggered any time, happens always - there is no difference, if the triggering sequence is run after several minutes or after several hours of playback.
I've tried several obvious steps to fix this, but none has made any difference:
    1. before switching audio source on AVR, stopped iTunes playback, either directly in iTunes or via Remote app
    2. networksetup -setv6off hint from forums, for WiFi and Ethernet
    3. tried downgrade of iTunes to 10.6.1 via Time Machine
    4. switched off firewall on Mac Mini
    5. connected Mac Mini with the AVR directly via known working cable (ruling out switches and any cable faults in between), also tried to connect them to the same network switch
I've also tried to run tcpdump on the ethernet interface when the iTunes is in the non-working state, and indeed there is no network traffic between mac mini and the AVR. Apparently iTunes doesn't even attempt to send the data to the AirPlay device. I see that there are several multicast packets sent by the AVR during this time, apparently some kind of Bonjour stuff.
Any hint what might be wrong, or another idea how to fix this? Was there any known-buggy AirPlay update to Mac OS X during the period?

Okay, so tried one more thing and found the culprit - the problem no longer appears after I switch off 'Allow iTunes audio control from remote speakers' preference in iTunes. Apparently this problem happens due to an interaction between the AVR (Denon AVR-1912) and iTunes.

  • Airplay no longer works for me from my iPhone 6 or iPad Air 2

Airplay is no longer working for me. I have three Apple TVs, and stream from my personal cloud. I can no longer select any of the Apple TVs from my iPhone 6 or iPad Air 2. This worked for months up until the last few days.  Does anyone know how to fix this?

    Hey philipfromcharlotte,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, you are having trouble using AirPlay from an iPhone and iPad to an Apple TV. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

  • Why does airplay no longer work using my ipad and apple TV

After the installation of the newest iOS for both my ipad and iPhone air play no longer displays video thru my Apple TV, it does give me the ability to listen to the sound, but does not display the video. All systems are using the latest software.

Hulu plus an Amazon block their content from being used with airplay. However the video app with either your own videos or iTunes video should work correctly, is this the video app that you are referring to.
If indeed airplay does not work correctly with any of your apps..
Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
    Restart your router.
    Restart your mobile device.

  • HT6114 AirPort Utility and AirPlay no longer works after 10.9.2 upgrade.

After upgrading to v10.9.2 last night, iTunes no longer shows my AirPlay speakers (attached to an AirPort Express) as available (other devices on same network see them fine still).
After upgrading to v10.9.2 the AirPort Utility can no longer see/connect to manage the Airport Extreme Time Capsule or the AirPort Express (the Wifi works, I'm associated to the SSID and sufring the web just fine, but I can no longer manage the devices - they don't even show up (marked as 'missing' with the option to 'forget' them in the GUI).

    This worked for me.
Joseph Rose's solution (in another discussion) finally fixed Airplay for me.  I now have mirroring and extended Airplay functions again.  It was a long road, but in the end, removing Air Parrot and Air Display was the solution for me.
    Solution:
Ran the Air Display uninstaller that I found by searching in spotlight.
Ran the Air Parrot removal tool & confirmed that the files were deleted based on instructions from their website.
Thanks to all that participated and spent their valuable time offering assistance!

  • Itunes 10 and Airplay no longer works with my Airport Express

As soon as I installed the update, my Airport Express (802.11g I think) has stopped working. You can JUST hear a faint audio signal if you turn the amp up full. Any ideas gratefully received.

I noticed this too and think it's by design. The new master volume slider in the AirPlay window is set at the highest volume in your list of speakers. Drag either the master volume or your external speaker slider to max, and you should get normal volumes out of your Airport Express speakers.

  • Airplay no longer working with 3rd party after upgrading to Maverick.

I updated my MacBook Pro this week and I have noticed that the airplay icon is no longer showing up in iTunes to connect to my Denon Amplifier. The interesting thing is that my old iPad 1 that I have that is still running 5.1.1 can connect and play to the receiver just fine.
Was there an update to the airplay software that would affect 3rd party devices? I was not able to find any new updates for my receiver.

I woke up this morning with the same problem (all was fine last night).  Only way to get all my mailbox folders back was to use Time Machine while in Mail, choosing the backup file from previous night and selecting EACH MAILBOX to restore (23 for me).  All appears okay so far today (except some of my accessories in the menu bar are gone).
I sure hope an update comes SOON.  In anticipation of Mavericks and the new MAIL I switched from Outlook 2011 3 weeks ago transfering 17,000+ files and would hate to back

  • Airplay no longer working after updates

After updating ATV3 and IOS devices; namely iPhone 5 and iPad 2 the airplay icon is no longer available. MBP similarly no longer has the airplay icon so mirroring is not possible. Can anyone help with a fix?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds, or resetting it using the reset option under general. You should also try restarting your router.

  • Any app audio through Airplay no longer works on ipad2 after 5.1.1 update. Working Airplay on my iphone.

I have a working Airplay connection to my Pioneer VSX-1021 Receiver. My iPhone 3GS and iTunes on my PC connect and send audio with no issues.
On the ipad2 through the music app for instance, I am able to select the Receiver as an Airplay destination but the blue Airplay icon soon goes white and it defaults back to iPad. The scrub bar and time counter never advance. Similar results with Garage Band. Settings on ipad and iphone are the same.
I have noticed this since upgrading to 5.1.1 but it could have been this way prior to the upgrade.
    Any ideas?

Honestly, this is a WAG but try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.

  • With Mountain Lion, airplay no longer works, why not?

The only thing that has changed is that I went from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion.
Have mid-2010 iMac, 3 Airport Express', 3 powered speakers.  Was able to send music to three rooms.  Firewall was on.
After upgrading to Mountain Lion I noticed the firewall was off.  I turned it back on.
I tried sending music via the Airport Express'.
Got a message that my firewall settings were preventing Airplay and that I should turn the firewall off.
That seems likde a bad idea.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

I am haveing this exact same issue. I have plugging in 3 monitors and tried two different VGA to mini displayport and nothing is working. I recently bought a Acer monitor and it work for an hour and now it back to doing the same thing.
When I plug the VGA adapter in to the monitor the monitor think its not connected to a computer then when disconnecting the VGA adapter the monitor thinks it is connected to a computer.
NEED SOME HELP!!! at the point of all my hair is pulled out.

that is the same problem i am having! if anyone can help that would be great i'm losing my mind over here

  • Airplay no longer works with IOS 7.0.3?

I have uploaded IOS 7.0.3 to my I-Pad but now Music does not offer Airplay through my Airport Express and music system as it used to - is there any fix?  Airport Utility shows a good connection and Airplay is enabled.  The system works OK with my MacBook Pro

If you don't see the AirPlay icon in the Control Center:
    1. Turn off router, Apple TV and iPad
    2. Turn on router and then wait 30 seconds for it to complete start-up process
    3. Turn on Apple TV and then wait 30 seconds for it to complete start-up process
    4. Turn on iPad (wait 30 seconds) and test AirPlay

  • AppleTV2: Airplay no longer working

I've had no issues with airplay, but admittedly have not used it recently, the last time was probably sometime during iOS7.1.2  I find that tonight I am unable to airplay from my iphone5s, iPad Mini on iOS8.0.2, or my 3GSphone on iOS6.1.3.  On the iPad Mini, the airplay button does not even display.  it does display on both phones, but all apps trying to airplay crash back to Springboard.  I've given up for now, but its eminently frustrating and is causing me to look further afield for a streaming solution.
Has anybody else had this issue and found a way around it?

Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
    Restart your mobile device.

  • Airplay no longer works

I have my internet set up through an airport extreme with an apple tv 2 connected to my tv. I just moved apartments after the school year, so the airport sat unplugged for about two months, I moved into my new apartment for the school year and wanted my apple tv again. But when I set up the airport and apple tv it didn't work. The tv would play music with the audio cutting in and out with video's not loading at all. I have reset the apple tv by unplugging and plugging back in as well as multiple reset with the router. I am out of ideas, any help would be very helpful.

If this is a brand new location it may be there is wi-fi interference or range issues affecting  the signal.
