Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
AirPlay Mirroring requires a Mid 2011 or newer MacBook Air. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5404 If it's compatible, you have two possibilities:
1. Make a backup, open App Store and purchase Mountain Lion. Then, you will be able to turn on AirPlay on System Preferences > Displays.
2. Keep with OS X Lion and use AirParrot > http://www.airparrot.com
Both options work properly

After recent upgrade to Yosemite on Macbook air bluetooth audio cuts out and associated video stops with audio. Likewise with airplay and Apple TV. I have deleted all my saved wifi connections and restarted numerous times. I do not expect a resolution from the community, but hope to get the attention of Apple engineers. If you are having same problems or have a miracle cure I am all ears.

May start my own thread, but I'm having similar issues.
I've been using an old iMac (running 10.7.5) and Apple TV for years with no issues. Last week I bought a new Macbook Pro running Yosemite and have had audio issues multiple times. The weird thing is that sometimes it works flawlessly, other times (like now) I spend half an hour just trying to get a song to play.
My issues are: When I got to "computers" in Apple TV to stream my music, my music is sometimes chopper or intermittent, and I seen to know when it's going to happen based on the status wheel just before it plays. When I choose a song, the status wheel will spin for an unusually long time, usually an indicator that the audio is either not going to work, or stutter.
When it does finally pull up a song, the playhead sits at the beginning of the song for a good 3-5 seconds before actually playing. Then, when it starts playing, it's all downhill. It will play a few seconds, drop out, play a few more seconds, drop out, and then ultimately the playhead will keep moving across the song as if it's playing, but there's no audio.
Again, this is a new phenomenon never experienced by me. I've tried everything I could think of, some of them all at once:
    • restart Apple TV
    • restart Macbook Pro
    • quite iTunes/open
    • turn off Home Sharing on iTunes then reconnect it
    • unplugging and cycling both my modem and router
None of these have alleviated the problem.
The odd thing is, like this morning, the audio started up perfectly and never gave me any issues. It wasn't until later in the day that it started. Perhaps after the macbook pro had been put to sleep? Not sure.
Regardless, this is an annoying trait, one that's new to me and my system (as stated, worked flawlessly until my new purchase), and is 100% limited to either a) the macbook pro b) Yosemite or c) both of them.

  • Can i hook up a new macbook air to my older imac screen that does not have a thunderbolt i/o?

can i hook up a new macbook air to my older imac screen that does not have a thunderbolt i/o? if not - what can i do to view on a larger display? thanks in advance for any help!!!

You should be able to get an adapter that will change the Thunderbolt out to a DVI or HDMI out, and connect that to an external monitor.  I am not sure what connection your iMac screen has, or if it even HAS input capability.  I know that the 27' iMac BEFORE it was given the Thunderbolt ports had MiniDP input.  If your iMac is any older than that one, I am not sure. But the adapter should allow you to output to any DVI or HDMI display, depending on which adapter you get.

  • HT4437 Can you use airplay to stream from an iPad to a TV with a network connection without internet access

Can you use airplay to stream from an iPad to a TV with a network connection without internet access

Yes, you can use a network storage device for the storage of your content and use it on the Apple TV, but only as part of your iTunes library. So if your question is whether or not you can do this without using your computer or iTunes the answer is no.

  • HT1338 can i use pen drive on Macbook air ?

can i use pen drive on Macbook air

You can if your cellular plan allows it. Not sure how much data you mean by "quite a bit" but be aware that doing this can use up a lot of data in a hurry depending on what it is you do. The following has information on how to share your cellular iPhone data: iOS: Understanding Personal Hotspot - Apple Support

  • I have a stuck CDR disk in my MacBook. I have tried everything and nothing works. When the computer starts it makes weird sounds and also when I try to eject it. Nothing Works! Please Help.

I have tried everything and nothing works. When the computer starts it makes weird sounds and also when I try to eject it. Nothing Works! Please Help.

I had that happen with a MacBook. It turned out that the metal case above the slot was slightly bent down.
Putting a flat blade screwdriver in the slot and gently twisting it to move the metal case up allowed it to eject. Don't put it in too far you only want to bend the case not the drive.
The case can get bent down by picking it up with your thumb pressing down on the case above the slot.

  • How can I change email received by others from me via my IMac and MacBookPro being received as APPLE?ring as just Apple

How can I change emails received by others from me on my IMac and MacBookPro appearing on their computers as 'APPLE' and not my name?

Thanks - I did not realize that Homesharing can be specifically set to a photo destination like that!
So, it would appear that I can either point it to iPhoto (and folders/ events within that) OR the default Pictures folder and subfolders of that OR any other specific folder (and subfolders of that) of my choice.  However, I cannot select BOTH the default Pictures folder (and some subfolder of that) AND a folder in iPhoto AND/ OR an event/ folder in iPhoto.  Is that a correct assumption?
If so, the only way I see getting homesharing to get both set of pictures is to get all my picture folders (internal and external drive based) into iPhoto (without physically duplicating them) - and then pointing Homesharing to iPhoto, right?
I think you have solved my issue - but I just want to be sure of that.
    Thanks a ton!

  • HT4437 can I use airplay to show NFL mobile app on my TV with appleTV?

I want to watch the Bronco-Raider football game this afternoon.  It is not shown in my area, but I can watch it on my iPhone updated to iOS 6 using the NFL Mobile app.  I want to use airplay to watch it on my tv through my appletv.  Is that possible?

  • HT4437 Can I use AirPlay for Apple TV 1st generation

Is it possible to stream from iPad or iPhone to Apple TV 1st generation.

No, Airplay does not work on AppleTV 1.  The software does not handle the protocol.
While Apple TV 1 can handle the Airtunes protocol for audio, current iOS versions seems to ignore this from apps like Music.
Your only option for audio on current iOS I've found is to use Remote app to control an itunes library for music and use 'Airplay' to the AppleTV for the music - iTunes still allows Airplay devices output for audio.
You could also control AppleTV connected to a Sync or Share iTunes library using Remore but of course computer needs to be running.
