• Can you import video directly from a video camera ?

Can you import video directly from a video camera to the iPad 2 ? If so, what is needed?

I would say no. I have an Ipad2 with the connection kit. A recent Sony camera which works fine in imovie for my 27" imac, but nothing with the Ipad. Only thing that it finds are pictures that can be made with the same video camera. Apple wrote a note aboit probkmes with importing, but i'm very disappointed with what i have right now.

Can I stream video from my Iphone 4 to a regular flat screen tv?

The mini-Displayport is for output only — you can't feed a signal into it. I suppose there's a chance that this ability may become available through the Thunderbolt port in the 2011 and later models, but we'll have to wait and see.

• Can you stream video from itunes using 1st generation appleTV

can I stream video using itunes on my PC and an appleTV(1st generation)?

AppleTV 1 works differently.
It has a sync/share mode and sharing (streaming only) modes set up by pairing the unit with iTunes on computers using the Settings>Computers menu.
The first sync and share connection is for one itunes library and allows you to sync compatible media to the unit's hard drive as well as stream the rest seamlessly if itunes is runniung and the drive has filled up - this media is accessed under My Music, My Movies etc.
Sharing libraries stream only and are accessed via My Shared Movies, Music etc.
Yes, Handbrake is a video converter that has AppleTV presets - use AppleTV1 preset or a simple universal Apple preset.
See:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TA38571
ATV1 does not understand Home Sharing or video Airplay.

• Can you stream video and use the computer at the same time on a mac mini with hdmi

Can you steam video and use the computer at the same time? I have a mac mini with hdmi.

Shouldn't be a problem, unless you want to view it in Full Screen Mode at the same time with only one display.

• HT4557 question! do you have to actually be at home, like using the same wi-fi network as the computer? or can you stream this music from somewhere else? and does the computer need to be one?

for example, can you be using another wi-fi network, for example in another country? and still stream music from my mac to ipad for free? and does the mac have to be on?

You could use something like Splashtop Remote Desktop on your Mac and iPad. This streams your Mac's desktop to your iPad so you can have full access to everything on your Mac anywhere in the world, as long as your Mac is turned on and connected to a network and your iPad has a data connection. It can stream full audio and video from your Mac. It is not exactly home sharing but it does what you want fairly well, with the added bonus of being able to use your Mac from anywhere. Search for Splashtop on the App store for more information. It normally sells for around $10 but is frequently on sale for as low as 99c, so have a look and see if it's for you while you wait for it to go on sale. I can confirm this works as I use it daily to work on my Mac from my iPad while at work.

• Can you stream video to a PB?

I just got a PB - is there a way to stream video to a PB the way that you can with an iPad using Air Video? Either on your LAN or over the net?

Yes you can stream media you have in your home network to the playbook.
The playbook will play an AVI or MP4 on your PC, if you setup sharing this folder using http.
But then, only those videos will play which the playbook supports - and this is a very limited amount.
Better install a media server. No coding required, just a little editing of an xml file + some free software.
its not perfect, but, works acceptable for me.
download tversity. This is an implementation of an upnp mediaplayer for Windows.
The playbook is able to playback streaming media of different kinds, but it has serveral limitations, like not AC3 supported in an AVI or no mkv playback.
With tversity, you can setup a profile so that everything gets transcoded to Windows Media9. You need a Windows PC however (dont know, if there is a media-player software for mac or linux which is able to transcode to Windows Media9). Also, the PC you use should be not something old. Use a modern I5 or I7, otherwise, it wont be able to transcode all your movies in realtime.
After installation of tversity, setup the path to your library. During that, open the advanced settings of the libary, and set transcode to always.
In the transcoder settings, set Video resolution to 640x384
in when to transcode, specify "always"
choose Windows Media 9 for the encoder settings
save all,
terminate the service
open the folder where the program is located
you find a "profiles.xml"
open that with notepad or wordpad
search for xbox
below that, you find a line that reads:
<HTTPHeader outServerUA="Microsoft-Windows-NT/5.1 UPnP/1.0 UPnP-Device-Host/1.0 Microsoft-HTTPAPI/1.0
" inUASubstr="Xbox|Xenon"/>
replace that with:
<HTTPHeader inUASubstr="PlayBook"/>
A little down in the xml file, still in the xbox profile, you find:
<maxVideoInfo width="1920" height="1080" bitrate="20000000" fps="60"></maxVideoInfo>
replace this with:
<maxVideoInfo width="640" height="384" bitrate="2000000" fps="20"></maxVideoInfo>
maybe choose a higher fps, that wont hurt.
Save the file,
start the media server services
go to you playbook,
in the browser open http://ip.of.your.pc: 41952
now, you can enyjoy most of your movie collection.
What will not work perfect for me:
The html menu for browsing the library looks old-fashioned
Some movies will stream, but will be interrupted every few seconds for a half second. Dont know, if this is the playbooks fault or a problem with the tversity. Since the stream plays fine when simulating the playbook with a pc, I guess this might fix itself during the next PB updates.
What is nice:
in addition, tversity will also transcode for your blackberry, if your PB battery is down, you can continue to watch on the tiny 2.5inch blackberry screen.
btw: contrary to the documentation the PB does not support RTSP streams.

• Can you stream iTunes library from Time Capsule to a MacBook if you're connected to the internet anywhere in the world?

I want to buy a MacBook Air but the flash storage means not enough space for all my movies and music. Instead of carrying around an extra harddrive, I'd rather make the Time Capsule my external harddrive. Most of the time when I access it it will be from my house, but say I'm just out and about and connected to the internet...assuming my Time Capsule is on, can I use it as basically a cloud device and stream my iTunes movies and music to my computer?

Probably not unless you have a super speed internet connection.. most people on adsl have 1mbit upload connection or less. you cannot stream movies over 1mbit.. I doubt you can even stream music. Actual throughput is only 800kbit/s...
That is why you store things in the cloud.. you download speed from cloud is much high than upload to it.
That is unless you have a super high speed, fibre connection to your home??
It is certainly possible.. if you have enough bandwidth.. 99.999% of people don't.

That's about the rate most streams on apps put out, There are 3 settings on most of these min, med and high and theze other setting needs more than 400kbps for better quality. Sky Go min rate is 250kbps but I can't remember the other 2 sorry. Lets hope with 400kbps is more stable than sky rates as on times I can't use sky go as it stops with poor quality playback, which is a joke as I've done speed test on my tabs and I get 35Mb which shows that there is a bug in their app but they don't belive it lol.
What is the quality like when output to a HD TV.
I do have vision and have noted that although Drama's etc are find from on demand if you watch a fast moving sport like football from the on demand section the quality of the picture is poor.
I have tried looking it up but everywhere I look seems to state that you can't put Sky Go to a TV from another device, it is blocked.
All the best

• Can you update Video Drivers from Nvidia?

Hello,
I have an iMac 27-inch, late 2012 model with a built in Nvidia GTX - 660M 512 MB video card. Is it possible to use the Nvidia driver update for this build in card or should I only use Apple's video driver update? I'm sure there have been updates from Nvidia, but I haven't had a Apple update for at lease six months. I'm not having any problems, but like to keep current on drivers.
Thanks,
Dennis

In OS X, Apple provides GPU driver updates with every OS X update, so you don't have to worry about the driver. If you have Windows installed with Boot Camp, then you can install the most recent NVIDIA driver from the NVIDIA site > http://www.nvidia.com
Note that GPU drivers don't come as individual drivers, but they come with OS X updates. For example, updates like 10.8.5 or Mavericks may come with updated drivers

• Can you stream movies from time machine to apple tv

Can you stream purchased movies from Apple Time Machine to Apple TV?
I have both an Apple TV and an Apple Time Machine. Both great devices BUT my internet connection is not great and apparently, the telephone exchange needs to be upgraded in order for it to improve and right now, the phone company has no plans to upgrade the exchange . So, I've bought movies from Apple TV and have downloaded them (using Apple TV) and watched them. They seem to stay on Apple TV for a few days before they need to be downloaded again if I (actually my kids) want to watch the movie again. Problem is, it takes about 15 hours to download a regular movie due to the poor internet connection. My kids don't have that much patience. I know I can download a movie onto my Mac and stream it from there to Apple TV but that means I have to have the Mac available. Since I work at an office and take my MacBook to use at work, it isn't always there for the kids to get their daily Frozen hit. See the issue I face? Apple TV and Apple Tme Machine are great devices. Can they be used in conjunction with one another?
So, what I was wondering, is it possible to stream from Apple Time Machine to Apple TV, i.e. use Time Machine to store your movies for Apple TV?
Thanks
Philip

No.
Time Machine is an application.
Time Capsule is hardware (what you have).
As suggested, you download them to iTunes and they will work fine on the AppleTV.

Yes but you need a computer running iTunes.

• Can I stream video from iPad to iMac?

Hi,
can i stream video (movies) from iPad to my iMac?
Thanks

There are ways to stream media from your Mac to your iPad, but I do not know of a method to go iPad to Mac.
Boxee is rumored to be preparing an app for iPad that may do that, but I have not heard that it is out.

• Can you stream Netflix from an iPad to Apple TV?

Hi,
We have a relatively small TV set and sit relatively far away from it. Therefore making Netflix choices with Apple TV and remote is difficult, since the print is too small. It would be way easier to make Netflix choices with the iPad on my lap, and have the iPad stream the movie to ATV.
Airplay works well with Apple apps like iTunes & iPhoto, but does it work with non Apple apps? If so, how does one get it to work?
Thanks,
Klaus

How can I stream video from my laptop to apple tv while doing a different task on my laptop? I want to be able to stream a video to my tv while browsing the internet or working on writing on my laptop. Thanks

You would have to use airplay within iTunes then, unless you want to use 3rd party software (ie Beamer)
