HT4437 cannot see airplay icon on iPhone 4

I have recentely purchased an apple tv and connected to the home Wi-Fi with my iPhone 4. Apple TV seems to be setup ok but I cannot mirror anything as I cannot see Airplay icon in my iPhone 4? I am also using iTunes 10.6 with Windows Vista but cannot share any content from PC to Apple Tv where I have the home sharing Turned On. any help will be appreciated.

Cannot see Airplay icon on any of my devices

Hi Community,
I bought a brand new Apple TV and it connected to the wireless network at home. I can use photo stream with all my devices, I can access all internet services directly using the Apple TV (e.g. Youtube, Movies, Netflix, etc...) but I cannot see Airplay on any of my devices (2 iPads, 2 iPhones).
I have disabled the firewall settings on my router. The Apple TV has a DHCP ip address and has strong wireless signal. I have updated my AppleTV software today to the latest version. Still none of my devices can see Airplay icon.
I couldn't find any discussion that could help me in sorting my problem out.

Thanks for the link. It didn't work at first on any of the devices but then I decided to enter a manual DNS instead of an automatic configuration. Then followed the steps again from your link and it worked.
It is not stable though as I need to reset the device for it to see the airplay. But when it is connected it stays connected for 30 minutes approx.
Any other suggestions to keep it stable would be fantastic but at least in the meantime I have a workaround.

I am trying to airplay off of my iPhone 4S. Airplay worked twice about a month ago but now it doesn't work at all and on my iPhone I don't have the icon. I'm connected to the same internet network as the Apple TV and when I let it go idle , the screen suggests that I do airplay and connect to my internet(which I am) and choose "Apple TV"(which is the name of my Apple TV) and no airplay icons show on my iPhone or my iPad or any other apple device in the house.

If you do not have am AirPlay device on your home WiFi network, you do not get the icon in the control center. The icon only appears when it is needed.
No AirPlay devices - no AirPlay icon.

Where don't you see the Photo Stream? On your iPhone/iPad or in iPhoto on your Mac?
In iPhoto on your Mac check, if Photo Stream is still enabled on System Preferences > iCloud and in the iPhoto Preferences "iCloud" tab.

If I understand correclty you are trying to sync content to your phone but for some reason iTunes is telling you that you are over capacity. I recommend the information and troubleshooting in the following article to help you get that resolved, named:
If you get a "Not enough free space" alert on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
You might see this alert in iTunes: "[iPhone/iPad/iPod touch] cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all of the items in the iTunes Library (additional space required)."
If you see this alert, try disconnecting and reconnecting your device, then syncing again.
Orphaned files might remain on your iOS device if it's physically disconnected while syncing music, podcasts, videos, or photos. This can prevent iTunes from syncing the iOS device on subsequent sync sessions. When this happens, you might see a large amount of "Other" disk usage for the iOS device in the Capacity indicator in iTunes. Try these steps:
Turn off the music or photo sync option in iTunes for the device.
Click Apply to sync the changes to the device.
Turn the music and photo sync options for the device on again.
Click Apply again to try to sync the device to iTunes. If you see the "Not enough free space" alert, continue to step 5.
Turn off the automatic syncing functions for the iOS device:
Select the iOS device from the iTunes window and click the Summary tab.
Deselect "Automatically sync when this device is connected" and select the "Sync only checked songs and videos" checkbox.
Click Apply to sync the changes to the device.
Reduce the amount of data that is being synced to the device and resync the device. For example, if syncing your Music library exceeds the memory capacity of the device, choose "Selected playlists" to transfer rather than "All songs and playlists" under the Music tab in iTunes. Restore using iTunes.

I have downloaded an app but cannot see the icon. I have tried to download again from app store but it says it is installed

Do you have restrictions enabled on the iPad? Settings>General>Restrictions? Maybe that is why you cannot see it. Have you swiped from screen to screen to look for it?
You can search for the app to confirm that it is on the iPad, but that will not show you the location of the icon and if the app store says it is installed - then it is installed. But this would let you access the app. Swipe from the right in your first home screen and the search feature appears. Type in the name of the app to find it. you can tap on the icon to launch the app.
Try restarting the iPad as well and maybe the icon will show up. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
This may even help if all else fails. Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

I found it by accident too on ipad 3 after a software update, before the update I only had to double click the home button to bring up the control menu.
In landscape mode, use any finger and starting from the outside margin/border of your ipad, anywhere along its length, just roll your finger in upwards direction to reveal the control menu - the icon for airplay will obviously only show once you have other devices to connect to , ie ATV etc
Sorry if above seems to be spelt out for a child but some of us, including me who is new to
Apple products, need instructions to follow easily !

If you have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar. Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar. The sidebar is where Devices appears.

Any help? Can't see it, despite attempting to set up a B&W Zeppelin Air? Have I not installed it propelry (despite trying twice) or should I see the Airplay icon regardless?

On the right hand side of the itunes store - there is a link under "quick links" to "purchases" where I can find all the books and music I have purchased through itunes. That way if I have loaded something from itunes using my phone - I can then go and download it onto my PC later (or that is how I use it).
BUT - while music, movies, TV shows, Apps & Books are available for download - there is no audiobooks option. So, I have these purchases of audiobooks through itunes, but I cannot find them in my purchases history. I have tried to manually sync these audiobook purchases from my phone to my PC, but it would not let me. And the last time I tried to sync my audiobook library between my phone and my PC - (loading these new purchases from phone to PC) it wiped my phone purchases and I had to go back to apple with all the purchase receipts to get them back.
I would like to be able to load audiobooks purhcased on my itunes account onto my home and work PC from the itunes purchased database from my account (or from my phone if someone can recommend a safe way to move the file).
