HT4437 Streaming to multiple Airport express speakers via iTunes Match. How?

How can I do this?

I have 2 Express units set up in my home, both signals are visible under the AirPort dropdown menu...
You have them configured to create separate wireless networks. That is why you can send the music to both of them simultaneously.
You need to configure one of them to join the network created by other one so that only one network name appears in the AirPort menu.

  • Multiple AirPort Express speakers disappear and/or stop working on iTunes

I have three AirPort Express with iTunes boxes. They are wired to my LAN (using the ethernet port). Not to long ago I noticed that there was an update for them and I updated them to V6.3.
Things seemed to be fine. In the meantime, I just happened to notice that the latest iTunes allows me to multicast to multiple remote speakers. So, I started using this multicast (I assume it's multicast) feature to hook up to a couple of remote speakers. Everthing worked fine and has worked fine for several days.
Then this morning, I noticed that two of the remote speakers didn't show up and the third airport showed up, but had a greyed exclamation point after it and I also noticed that the speakers weren't working on that remote airport. When I unchecked the remote speaker in iTunes, it completely disappeared.
The three airport express boxes seem to be working (they're all solid green), but the remote speakers don't work. I realize that just having a solid green doesn't necesarily mean they're working, but well, that was the extent of my investigation. Anyway....
I brought up the airport admin tool and didn't really know how to reset the airport without changing something so I changed the text in the location field and updated the airport. Once I did this the remote speaker showed up in iTunes, so I reset all of the airports and this seemed to get the remote speakers to showup again. I'm sure a power cycle would work as well, but I was too lazy to walk all over the house and power cycle them.
Does anyone know if this is a known problem or is there something that I've got configured wrong?
Mac mini & Power Mac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

The three most common problems encountered with mutiple AX's:
Itunes software (need 6.02 or better)
    AX firmware (need 6.3)
Firewall (you must ALLOW UDP traffic)
If all these items are met then usually what remains is configuration and/or a range problem. Since it sounds as though it works singularly, range is not the issue. Check the three most common and if they are right you are left with re-configuring the network or possibly (but unlikely based on the post) a bad unit.

  • Problems syncing Airtunes over multiple Airport Express speakers

I've recently purchased a second Airport Express to allow me to stream music over airtunes to two rooms in the house at the same time. However, the music doesn't synchronise - there is a noticeable latency between the two sets of speakers so it sounds awful when you move from one room to another.
Is there any way to address this? I'm wondering if the issue is that one AX is brand new and the other is about two years old (so is only 602.11g, not 602.11n and is also on older firmware).

Unfortunately, you're at the mercy of both the ieee802.11 and ethernet standards here, and without complex timing signals, there isn't much you can do. The latency can be affected by any number of issues. I have found, however, that having both AX's on the same type of networks (such as both on ethernet or wifi) does help. However, I did have my appleTV on wifi and AX on ethernet with no timing issues.

  • Multiple Airport Express Units and Itunes

I have two Airport Express units, each is hooked up to a seperate stereo in the house. I tunes will connect with one or the other, but not both Airport Express units at the same time.
When selecting multiple speakers from the drop down box...the following error message is encountered..."The remote speaker "xxxx" does not support playback as a part of a group. Do you want to switch playback to it?"
Any help would be appreciated...when this is complete, the system will be doing exactly what I want.

  • Can't connect to Airport Express speakers in iTunes

    Hi,
I have a Time Capsule and an AX (802.11n).
The AX is connected to a stereo and speakers, and is configured to Join my existing wi
iTunes sees the remote speakers, but when I select them I get an error message and cannot connect.
Also, Airport Utility (6.0) is not allowing me to change the speaker settings (name, password). These options are greyed out, despite the Enable AirPlay option being checked.
    Thanks!

OK, I just solved this same (or similar) problem for myself...
My iTunes on MacMini has been connecting to multiple Expresses for years. Every once in a while, iTunes will "forget" that it is to play through the Expresses and reverts to Computer only. So I would just pop open the Airplay menu and select Multlple Speaker and turn them all on again. Weird, but solvable.
Tonight, no go. I could not select any of the Airport Expresses in this Airplay "speaker chooser." I am running OSX 10.6.8 and iTunes 10.6.1. Was it the recent 10.6.1 update? Not sure, but it points to that.
(By the way, are you saying Airport Utility software update, or do you really mean the Express firmware update?)
Anyway, I tried various normal things, restarting this and that. No luck. Googled this and that, etc. Finally took the plunge and updated the firmware in the Expresses and Time Capsule, which restarts the units. This DID NOT solve the problem (not right away, at least).
I notice that my MacBook Pro's iTunes could connect to all my Expresses (even befoe the Express' firmware updates). This was my first troubleshooting check. This got me to think that this was an Airport vs Ethernet issue. (My Mini and all Expresses are hardwired with Ethernet).
So I turned off Ethernet on the Mini and connected it to my LAN with Airport. Sure enough, now the Mini's iTunes could select all the Expresses!
Weirder still, I turned off the Mini's Airport and reconnected it to my LAN using Ethernet. Voila! The speaker settings in iTunes stuck and now everything is fine. (For now!)
    Computers... errrrr......

  • Multiple airport express clients dropping iTunes

Hello, I'm new to the board and appreciate the resource and any feedback you guys can provide.
My music is stored on the iMac and I'm trying to stream iTunes to two AX's and the music drops out often. They are both set up as clients. I have searched this forum extensively and think I have isolated the problem as one of the following:
Something to do with UDP protocal
    Linksys WRT51AB router settings
    512Mb RAM on iMac--too little?
    Here's my troubleshooting thus far:
Both airport expresses work by themselves in their current locations.
Locations are close to computer, 1st within 10 feet (1 wall), 2nd another 10-15 feet (2 walls)
Checked firewall settings and "Block UDP" box is unchecked
I tried to forward Port 6000 on my Linksys router based on some advice in another thread here to no avail
    AX Firmware 6.3
    iTunes 6.0.4
    OSX 10.4.6
    Thanks for the help
    G4 PB & Intel iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Thanks for the suggestion. I had not tried that option as I had read somewhere that there is only one Linksys router that supports this setup and it's not the one I have.
I will try the solution and report back. I assume an AX configured as a range extender can also function to stream iTunes?
Also, for clarification, I am using two airport expresses both of which to stream music. They access my network through my Linksys router hardwired to the iMac.
    Thanks.

  • IPhone to multiple Airport Express/ATVs

before the latest iOS upgrade to my iPhone I could stream to multiple Airport Expresses from my iPhone at one time.  Now I can't select more than one at a time.  Can anyone help?

My question is will the Airport Express units ethernet ports have a live signal that wired Macs can plug into to join the network like a router?
    Yes.

  • Multiple Airport Express streams?

Is it possible to have more than one Airport Express Unit receiving different signals from different iOS devices? E.g. My iMac plays one track, my iPhone plays another and my iPad plays another?
I have a 4 input hub in my house powering 4 sets of ceiling speakers in various rooms and want to know if multiple Airport Express units mean I don't have to go down the Sonos route as all my music is on iTunes.
    Thanks in advance

I do this regularly. I have 5 AX units connected to various receivers around the house. I can stream to a subset of speakers from one device and have another device stream to others. I don't see why I couldn't stream five stream to these speakers.
But the big caveat is that most of my AX units are connected via a gigabit ethernet network not a wireless connection (yes I know the AX units are not gigabit, but my network is). If you were trying to do this via wireless you might quickly run out of bandwidth. This is particularly true for IOS devices. For example, I have an ipad that can stream internet radio. If you think about it the ipod  in this case has to first get the wireless signal and then send it back out to the AX, immediately doubling the amount of spectrum used compared to streaming from a device that has the music stored on it. That's probably why my internet radio app won't let me select multiple speakers the way I can with itunes or airfoil.

  • How can I stream audio from Apple TV 2 to Airport Express speakers.

how can I stream audio from Apple TV 2 to Airport Express speakers.
I have LCD projector on one wall and connected ATV to it via HDMI.
Speakers on the other wall and connected to APXpress.

To be honest the times we've wanted to have music from more than one set of speakers, I've usually used my mac's iTunes library and controlled it either from the mac or from my phone, since they're not really the times we have any TV on anyway. I've tested AirTunes from the Apple TV but can't recall whether it worked with content from a streaming library.
Now I've got something to do.

  • Play DVD with audio sound via Airport Express speakers

Is it possible to play my DVD with audio sound via my Airport Express speakers?
I can play music with iTunes trough these speakers, it would be nice if I can hear my DVDs aswell.
iMac intel core duo   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Not using Front Row.
The real issue here is that audio and video stream at different speeds and it is hard to maintain sync. You know how when you hit play within iTunes it takes a while for the song to start through the speakers? It's the same with the DVD. So you'd need to work an offset into the audio when playing a DVD and it's not an exact science.
You can download VLC player and mess around with the offset, then you'll also need a program like Airfoil to be able to force audio through the airport express.
    Good luck!

  • Is it possible to stream music to multiple sets of speakers via airplay direct from iphone4s on ios7 in the same way that you can in iTunes

Is it possible to stream music to multiple sets of speakers via airplay direct from iphone4s on ios7 in the same way that you can in iTunes / Remote?
I know this can be achieved by the remote app.
Airplay functionality appears only to support 1 set of speakers at a time?

Does anyone know how or if it's possible to stream my music from the iPhone to iTunes via bluetooth or wifi? Essentially I want to share the iPhone's library with iTunes (I know one can go the other way).
Here's why: I'd like to stream my music at work to my computer's speakers without taking the phone out of my pocket. I obviously don't have my home music collection on my company computer. And I figure if I place the phone on my desk to plug it in and play through iTunes, I could easily walk off without the phone. That would be bad (out of contact) and potentially sad (stolen).
It seems right now the only bluetooth connection to a computer is for the remote application.
Wait until November. Airplay/Airtunes iOS 4.2 announced for iPhone to iTunes/iTV. If you want a BT audio stream now, you can add a dongle to the PC for headset streaming.
As far as WiFi file transfer iPhone to iTunes, you can't. There's talks on it but nothing concrete. Except JB.

  • Not all Airport Express speakers showing up in Multiple Speakers option?

I can choose my airport express speakers in the drop down menu in iTunes individually, but when I open the multiple speakers option only 2 out of 5 zones show up?

I was able to resolve my issue.  I found the answer from another post in an Apple forum.  What you need to do is open the multiple speaker option and expand the window to show the additional Aiports/Apple TVs linked in iTunes.  Once I did this, I am not able to see everything as expected.  Seems like a flaw that it doesn't default to this extended view.  Hope this helps.

  • Can multiple Airport Expresses be connected via ethernet to an Airport Extreme to extend a single WiFi Network?

I am a big fan of both the Airport Extreme and Airport Express.  In my work environment, I need to create a good quality single wireless network around 2 large aircraft hangars and some offices at the perimeters.  We have a good quality wired Cat5e ethernet network extended between the buildings and offices now.  Is this possible and does it seem like a good practical solution?  I think that 4 or 5 Airport expresses would easily provide good wireless coverage in the needed areas.

Can multiple AirPort Expresses be connected via ethernet to an AirPort Extreme to extend a single WiFi Network?
Yes, this will work just fine as long as any individual Ethernet cable run will not exceed much over 330 feet or about 100 meters.

Ok, if you are connecting the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) to the existing wireless network, then the DSL in the next room is most likely a combination DSL modem and wireless router. Thanks for clarifying that for me.
Although they may only be separated by a single wall, the building material used in that wall may be enough to prevent the AX from receving a "good" signal from the DSL router.
Since I don't know what computing equipment you have available, please check out this AirPort User Tip: AirPort - Optimal Base Station Placement to see if you can get some SNR measurements at the location of your AX. To do this properly, you will want to power-off the AX and only get these measurements for the DSL router.

  • Apple 1st Gen streaming to Airport Express Speakers?

I have been browsing the forum for a while looking for a definitive answer, and have not found one, can anyone help with my question please.
I want to buy and run an Apple TV 160gb, sync to my iTunes, upload my music and use it as a server for my iTunes and stream music from it wirelessly to my Airport Express + speakers in the garage/garden and control setup with my remote app on my iphone. I know I can do this from my laptop, but I do not want to leave it running 24/7...
Is this possible? Seems a pretty simple setup, someone must have done this, many conflicting answers on the forum...
Any help would be great, before I hunt down a 1st gen Apple TV and waste my cash...

    Thanks for simple answer...
No plans to delete my music from laptop, I just dont want to leave it running all the time and ATV 1 seemed like a cost effective way of possibly streaming my music to remote speakers... something I can leave running 24/7 and not worry about it, its a neat little package.
Time to scour eBay... Thanks again...
