I started to download from software update and decided I don't want the items after the download had begun. How can I cancel a download? I don't want to just pause it, I want it to GO AWAY. I don't want it to resume any time ever.

Failure to download software updates and IP blacklisting
SOme setting on my computer is stopping me from downloading iPhone software and Office for Mac software updates (network time-out and 9006 errors). My IP address is also repeatedly being blacklisted at my web based ISP (they say because of my file sharing settings!). I am at a complete loss! I do not run any anti-virus or malware program. Is it my firewal setting? I have also tried to turn off Airport and effect downloads via ethernet cable directly to my router. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. My firewall log (see extract below) is full of stuff - mentions Dropbox data and nmbd data amongst other things - is this perhaps the problem? HELP!!!!

Had a look at my Firewall settings in System Preferences.
Allow all incoming connections is ticked.
In the box below under File Sharing (AFP) is -
BackService.app - Block incoming connections.
Does this have anything to do with my failure to download the software?
I have managed to do Microsoft Office software updates and a few others, so it appears to only be the iPhone update and my web based email being blocked (blacklisting my IP address) - this service provider says it is something to do with file sharing and their system being "pinged" too many times in a short time frame and thus automatically blocking my IP.
Am so confused as to how to solve this...... -

Yes that is correct.
Will I need to get a mac external hard drive if I wish to continue to save my documents like this?
If you no longer use a PC you could format this drive for the Mac. However be aware that formatting a drive will erase all the data on it. So you would need someplace to copy the data off this drive to while you did the re-format and then you could copy the data back.
You could get another drive, format it for the Mac and copy the data to it. Then re-format the original drive and use it as a backup drive. Always good to have backups.
Post back with the drive type and size of the current drive, if you are doing backups now and how and if you still need to access this drive from a PC.

I downloaded the latest iTunes software update and it properly installed. But, I cannot close the update window showing it was completed and the blue completion bar is full but cannot cancel or close it either. Any ideas on how to clear that out and close the window. Tried to quit on both the big window and the software update title in the menu bar. No luck.
Tried that by shutting down via the power button only as the normal shutdown was nixed by the open window issue. It did not help. Found a very similar question in the discussions and it recommended "Force Quit". That worked and the update works normal and the window is gone. Thanks!

My movies and music videos won't show up on my computer screen, I can hear the sound but not see the video how do I fix this? I'm not sure what to do as far as turning my purchased movie into DVD goes either. I grasp that you uninstalled the Intel graphic driver and the catalyst control. You reinstalled the Intel driver and now you can view and hear videos on the Internet but you are unable to set the resolution as high as previously.
When I checked the specifications for your notebook I see that you have switchable graphics.
Here are two links that I believe will help.

Please try this process.
1. Download the chipset driver, and both graphic drivers and save them but do not install them yet
2, Delete the chipset driver and install the updated one.
3. restart your notebook
4.Delete the Intel driver and install the updated one
5. restart your notebook
6. Delete the AMD driver and install the updated driver.
You should now have a Catalyst Control Center.
This should now allow you to use the higher graphic card which should support the higher resolution.

I have updated from Snow Leopard to Lion with Safari Version 5.0.5. Now I can not update to Safari 5.1. There is no update in the Software Updater, and on the apple-download page, I only found a Safari 5.1 for Snow Leopard. When executing it, there is an error message, that it is for 10.6 only.
It seems that I should have first updated Safari, and then only to Lion, which I didn't. Any idea how I can fix this now without having to rollback to Snow Leopard, update Safari and then go back to Lion?Try this Safari5.1 from the installer package

I had uninstalled iMovie 10 after it was updated and decided to reinstall it but it won't update, iMovie 10 update is stuck at installed in my App Store account. How do I get it the update to revert to uninstalled so I can re-update iMovie 10 to 10.0.1? iMovie 9.0.9 (iLife 11) is still installed and working.

To clarify for anyone who is still having any problems doing this.
1. Unlock your phone with the carrier ( I know the process will work if it is jail broken but I am assuming you dont want to void the warranty on your phone) NOTE: even if you purchased the phone outright at Wal-Mart it is still locked to ATT so you will have to unlock the phone. If it's already unlocked skip to step 2. This works and will work even if you update the phone.

I've updated my phone and I've made a backup. but now it says I must enter my code to restore all my files and I haven't got this code. If I cancel the process or choose something else, all my stuff will be deleted, and I really don't want that.
HELP ME PLEASE!!!If, for some reason, your backup got encrypted and you don't know the code, you'll have to set up your phone as new device and start all over again without the backup.
Warning: If you encrypt an iPhone backup in iTunes and then forget your password, you will not be able to restore from backup and your data will be unrecoverable. If you forget the password, you can continue to back up and use the device, however you will not be able to restore the encrypted backup to any device without the password. You do not need to enter the password for your backup each time you back up or sync.
If you cannot remember the password and want to start again, you must perform a full software restore and when iTunes prompts you to select the backup from which to restore, choose set up as a new device.
If you can't get pass the lock screen, connect in recovery mode and restore the phone, you'll have the option to reset the lock secreen passcode.

If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). the apps will not be deleted if the itunes is authorised for the apple id from which you downloaded the apps.
for the songs if you have downloaded it from a store other than itunes an app "TuneAid" will help you. download the full version then you can copy all the songs on the ipad to ur itunes library
