HT4463 I got a new mac and can't download apps I previously purchased

I bought a couple lessons in GarageBand and some apps in the AppStore, but now that I have a new MacBook, I am unable to get these apps on the new machine apparently without buying the apps again(!)
This is frustrating. I know the old machine was wiped clean and I'm not interested in paying another several hundred dollars for software I already bought.
Any ideas?

Hi chivas3,
Access your Purchased Apps as follows:
1. Click on the iTunes Store, then click on the Apps tab at the top
2. Now click on "Purchased" under the Quick Links menu on the right
3. This will then go to a screen that displays your purchased Apps (you can then click on All or Not on This Computer at the top)
4. You will see a cloud below each App that can be downloaded. You can download them selectively, or by clicking on Download All at the bottom of the screen
Cheers,
GB
