The battery has completely discharged and will take overnight to recharge, so don't expect much in an hour.
The battery has deep discharged and is now dead. It will never recharge and should be replaced.

Have you checked the purchase history on your account (Store > View My Account on yoru computer's iTunes), and have you (or anyone who access to your devices) made in-app purchases in apps and/or have you taken out any subscriptions in apps ? Settings>Store (or iTunes & App Stores if you are running iOS6)>Apple ID. Tap your son's ID and sign out. Sign in with your ID and password.
You shouldn't lose the music, but if you try to update any apps that you bought with the family ID, you will have to use that password that is linked with that ID in order to update.
Avoid downloading past purchased content with the old ID if you can since you will associate the iPad with the old ID for 90 days and you will lock yourself out of your own, new ID for that period of time. Read more about associated devices in iTunes here.

You can't. Return the phone for a refund, if you can, because without the previous owner's Apple ID/Password, you will not be able to re-activate the phone. It will be useless to you.

The setting in "Tools > Options > Tabs" only works for links that would open in a new window.<br />
That option allow you to divert such calls to a new tab.<br />
For other links you either have to use a middle click or a Ctrl + left click or use the context menu.

You cannot use someone else's apps without violating the license agreement. The apps are tied to the owner (via Apple ID). The right thing to do would be to update and start fresh.
