Try following this (it's slightly different that the one above):
Go to Settings>iCloud, turn Contacts to Off, choose Delete from My iPhone when prompted (any iCloud contacts will still be in iCloud).
Download the app My Contacts Backup. (If you have more than 500 contacts to transfer you will need the “Pro” version.) Use the app to backup the remaining contacts on your phone (from the other accounts/groups) as a vCard attachment to an email that you send to yourself. Confirm that you have received the email.
Go to Settings>iCloud and turn Contacts back to On.
Go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Default Account (in the Contacts section), and set this to iCloud.
Go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars...tap your Yahoo account and turn off contacts syncing with Yahoo.
Open the My Contacts Backup email and tap the attachment to import the contacts from the other groups back to your phone, and to iCloud.

You can use google sync to solve the issue about how to transfer contacts from Nokia to iPhone.
1 Launch Mail Exchange on your Nokia phone and setup using the settings mentioned here .
2 Now use your iPhone and navigate to Settings app and go to Mail,Contacts,Calendar tab .
3 Add an account and select Microsoft Exchange . Enter all your google account details as shown here .
4 Now your Google Sync is ready . Sync to transfer your contacts.

I did encounter same problem when tried to import VCF's from Samsung to sd card and then into icloud.com. I still do not have solution, sorry. Just want to make sure that I understood you correctly. I was getting something of kind those files are not recognized or incompatible, do you see something similar?

You can import your contacts from your Outlook using iTunes. Connect yout iPhone / iPad to iTunes, then set sync contacts with outlook option. Then Sync your device.
Note: Your existing contacts may get replaced if you don't read the options carefully.

Time Machine is a back up you have to set up to back up before there is a problem like a hard drive failure.
It is possible to recover files from a failed drive, but it is an expensive proposition.
There is a faint hope that an app like Disk Warrior or TechTool Pro might repair the drive. You could try making an appointment at an Apple store and ask a technician there to take a look... the diagnosis will not cost you.

Your profile indicates that you are using OS X 10.6.8. You will need OS X 10.7.2 or better in order to use Icloud and sync your contacts.

Yes, it's weird and cryptic. This is what you need to do.
in settings, click mail, contacts , calendars
you need to add two accounts:
one for mail as a Yahoo account
another per the instructions below
Yahoo syncs contacts by adding a CardDAV account:
Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars
Tap Add Account
Tap Other and then tap Add CardDAV Account
For the Server you need to enter carddav.address.yahoo.com
Now type in the Yahoo! ID (full email address) and password you use to sign in to your Yahoo! Contacts
why not all in one? who knows!
Ps. You might have to do several tries with and without the .xxx extesion to the account name

Hi there!
With the limited information in your post ("unable to transfer" is pretty sparse information), I suggest the following steps (insert plenty of reboots of your PC...not just restarts, but full power down reboots). Also, it is advised that you be logged into the PC on an account with full admin rights. Further, under Vista, use the "Run As Administrator" option for everything.
1) Remove your device OS update package from your PC (add/remove programs)
2) Cleanly uninstall the RIM DTM software:

3) Get a fresh download of the RIM DTM software:

Choose the version that is newest and (if applicable) compatible with your PIM (if you are synchornizing via USB):

4) Download (to your PC) a fresh copy of your device OS package from your carrier:

5) Install DTM to your PC
6) Install (also to your PC), the device OS package

First go to mail preferences>accounts>mailbox behavior and under trash click "move deleted messages to the trash mailbox, the delete them from there.
Also got to your Yahoo mail and check your settings there.
