HT4519 Unable to move deleted mail to trash on ipad

For the last month I have not been able to fully delete all messages and I get a warning message that I am unable to o
Move message to trash
Only on ipad

There are a few things to try.
First try turning the account off and on : Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars , then tap the account on the right, slide Mail to 'off', exit settings and go back into the Mail app, and then go back to Settings and slide Mail back to 'on'
If that doesn't fix it then try closing the Mail app via the taskbar : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar at the bottom of the screen, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
And another things to try is to go into Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Then select the account on the right-hand side of that screen, select Account, then Advanced, Deleted Mailbox, and under On The Server tap the 'Trash' folder so that it gets a tick against it - then come out of that series of popups by tapping on the relevant buttons at the top of them and then see if you can delete emails.

Try Settings>Mail, contacts, calendars>Your email account>Advanced>Move Discarded Messages into>Deleted Mailbox.

    Hey beanbob,
Thanks for the question. The following resource should assist you in troubleshooting moving emails to the Trash on an iOS device:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3899
    "Unable to move message"
Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendar. Then tap your email.
    Tap Account.
    Tap Advanced.
Tap Deleted Mailbox and make sure it's set to Trash.
Tap Advanced > Account. Then tap Done.
If you see the issue again, repeat steps 1 through 3, tap IMAP Path Prefix, then Inbox. After you make your changes, tap Account, then Done.

How do you delete mail and trash in OSX 10.9.2 without opening them.  I don't want to open suspect mail that might cause a problem.

I think you can just drag it to the trash folder.  Otherwise you have to select it and press delete.  If you have the preview window going, just selecting it will open it.  So you have to have the preview window closed.
    P.S.
I don't think you can get into any trouble just opening a message in Apple Mail.

That completely depends on your email service provider.

  • Cannot permanently delete mails from trash in gmail account

When emails are deleted using default Mac OS X Mavericks mail.app, they move to the trash folder as expected and when I delete them from the trash folder, they dissapear as supposed. Unfortunatelly, after logging in to the gmail web-based version, the emails are still visible in trash folder. They are sort of hidden, because they are visible only in web-based version, not in any smtp client. Interesting is, that iPhone mail app deletes the mails correctly. This issue was tested on 3 computers (iMac 27" i5 late 2010, Macbook Pro Retina 15" i7 early 2013, Macbook Pro Retina 13" i5 late 2013), 3 user accounts, and 3 gmail accounts. Do you have any suggestions?

Okay, that solved it, except that I had to input rm -rf ~/.Trash/*
and NOT "Trashes." It accepted your version of the command, but it didn't do anything discernible. I noticed that entering Trashe and trying to press tab to autocomplete didn't work, suggesting that maybe Trashes doesn't exist. However, trying to autocomplete with fewer letters typed indicated to me that Trash DOES exist, and so I went ahead with that and it worked.

  • How can I enable iTunes Sync to move deleted to the Trash in Outlook instead of directly deleting from my PST file?

I use several Apple Devices: iPhone 3GS (yes, archaic), iPhone 4S, iPad, and iPad 2 for personal, and work.
I use iTunes with MS Outlook 2010 to store all my information (e-mail, contacts, calendar, notes, etc).
When any information changes, it is updated throughout my devices. There has been a time or two when I have accidently deleted information. I want to make sure that I can undelete the information at those times.
When I 'Allow' iTunes to delete the information, it does not move to Trash in Outlook and instead it removes it completely from Outlook. This removes any possibility to restore the infomation at a future date if the need arises.
This is a very important function which I miss, granular notification of every change that will take place and the ability to stop each change; when I used Blackberry Desktop with my Torch.
Does anyone have any idea how to resolve the issu? My work around, currently, is to copy the existing PST file to a different locaion. Then, if I need to restore, I would just open the PST file and copy the item(s) back into the working PST file. This is really quite cumbesome.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

If you Control click on the iPhoto Library, you'll see a list of folders - one named "Masters". Inside of this folder are all of your original, high-res photos. You can copy them to other folders if you like.
You can't delete iPhoto pics without deleting the ones in the iPhoto Library.
You can copy all of your Masters pics out of the Library, ensuring that you won't forget any.
I don't know of anyway to determine if there are duplicate photos - most (if not all) have a unique name assigned.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • This morning my iPad mini won't move old mail to trash

This morning I wanted to delete some old emails from my iPad mini but kept getting a message that they could not be moved to trash. Any suggestions?

    Hi AuntBibi!
It seems as if I have found an article that can help you resolve this issue. The article is meant for the iPhone and iPod touch, but the instructions will still work for the iPad. Information can be found here:
iPhone and iPod touch - Unable to delete email messages
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2475
If by chance your settings do not match what is described in that article, then you might want to try deleting and re-adding your email account into your iPad. The information for doing this can be found right here, in the article for troubleshooting sending and receiving email messages:
iOS: Unable to send or receive email
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3899
Specifically, this is the step that will help you perform this:
Delete the account from Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars and then add the email account again on the iOS device.
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Have a good one!

  • How do I delete mail from trash folder

I know how to delete the mail from my trash folder one email at a time. I have setting set to remove the trash folder every day, however, it isn't working. I have emails on that have been deleted 2 or 3, if not more days.
Can someone tell me how to fix this, please? This deleting one email at a time from my trash folder is a bit of a pain.
    Thank you for the help!!!

You can delete all of the emails at once from the trash folder. Tap the edit button at the top, tap the red delete all button at the bottom and tap delet all again in the pop up.

  • Retrieving deleted mail from trash folder

Hi, Can anyone please tell me how to retrieve emails from last year, that I deleted from 'trash' in my mail folder?
    Thanks

It could be possible with 3'rd party software, but that's assuming you haven't been using your computer much since the point of that delete.  And I'm assuming that's unlikely.
What kind of account was this, pop or imap?

  • Any way to quickly move unwanted mail to Trash?

Currently, if you want to dump mail into the trash, you can:
    - In the Inbox, highlight some mail by checking the blue dot, and tap Trash.
    - When you're looking at an email, you can tap the Garbage icon, and it disappears.
Is there a way to dump a lot of unwanted emails into the Trash without tapping a bunch of blue dots, or tapping the Garbage icon dozens of times? Do you know of a special key sequence to dump lots of emails into the Trash immediately? Please say yes.

I use my email providers webmail page to delete large numbers of unwanted emails.  On the webmail page I can select all or toggle all and delete with just a few clicks.
