HT4527 Can I still use this method if I have already allowed imatch and my iphone to fill the music library on my new computer?
When I launched itunes on my new computer, I plugged my phone into it and turned on imatch. So now my library on my new computer is filled with music files. I am pretty sure that these files are not permanent and that they are only there because of icloud and imatch. I want the files to be permanent so I thought it would be best to use the method described above to transfer files with an external hard drive.
Should I erase all the music files on my new computer's itunes before I get started? My new computer is operating with Windows 8.
Hey sunrise5656,
Great question. The current configuration you have can potentially be permanent as you want. You simply have to download all of the iTunes Match songs to the computer using the cloud download icon:
iTunes 11 for Windows: Access all your music anytime, anywhere with iTunes Match
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12492
You can play songs directly from iCloud, or you can download songs so you can play them when you’re not connected to the Internet.
If a song is available in iCloud, it has a Download button next to it.
Thanks,
Matt M.

I just purchased a ipad 2 and have not sync it yet. I have an old pc and would like to move the itunes library account to a newer pc that I have. Can I move the library to the ipad and sync ipods to the ipad and/or move the library to the new pc?
Perhaps this web page will help: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1229
But I must point out that leaving the iPhoto Library on the external is worth considering. Your internal drive would be better off without having to carry the photos.
When you booted with the external connected and you were asked for the library, did you try navigating to the Library in on the external drive? -
I have an old Ipod and am trying to sync the music from it onto my new (Windows) Computer. When it links us it says it must remove and sync the music. Does this mean I will lose the music from my ipod forever?
Does this mean I will lose the music from my ipod forever?
Yes, that is exactly what it means.
The right way to do it is to first rebuild your library on the new computer, and then sync the iPod.
You can rebuild your library by copying the library from the old computer or from your backup.
If neither of those options is available, you can extract the songs from the iPod, although the process is a bit hairy. See this guide for the procedure, written by Forum member Steve/turingtest2. -

If I get a new home PC, can I use the cloud to tranfer my Itunes library to the new computers harddrive?
Welcome to Apple Support Communities
No. That would only be valid for content purchased in the iTunes Store, because you can redownload purchased content onto a different computer for free, and it is also valid if you are using iTunes Match, but note that settings, device backups... will not be transferred. Moreover, if you have got an iPhone, iPod or iPad, you will be asked to erase it before being able to use it with your new PC.
Instead of doing that, I recommend you to transfer the whole iTunes library to your new PC by following these steps > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1751 Finally, do the "Restoring your iTunes Library backup" on your new PC. -
I just bought a MacBook Air and don't want to store all my photos on it. I'd like to be able to store and access them on a separate back up disk but iPhoto won't allow me to access these saying:
"The iPhoto library is a Time Machine backup, and so cannot be used as the main library. Reopen iPhoto with the Option key held down to choose another library."
Can I use my back up disk to store my photos? If not, how do I get my photos from iPhoto onto my back up disk?
Would love any help!
Thanks in advance :-)You need to first restore the Time Machine back up. This excuse a TM back up is condensed and fragmented and so it needs to be expanded and reassembled before iPhoto can understand it.
After that, moving the Library is simple:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

I use 2 PCs and an iPhone 4S
I added photos to the phone which appear in the Photo Library, but want to copy them to my second computer (different place).
How can it be done?Problem is that the photos do not appear on the computer.
I tried using the autoplay window that opens when the iPhone is connected and then clicked to import the pictures. This finds more than on Camera Roll, but as far as I can judge only the photos on the present computer, not the ones I need. But they are there on a folder in the Phone. -
My old laptop had all my music library on it and I have no back up. I have gotten a new laptop (a PC not MAC) and really need my music onto my iphone, please help!!
Depending on what the problem with the laptop is, you could take the hard drive out of the laptop and put it into an external hard drive caddy (laptops uasally use 2.5" drives). This should allow you to access all the files on the drive however if the hard drive is damaged you will have a harder time recovering the files.

You mean all yoru CDs are in your iTunes library on another computer.
iTunes library is on your computer and contains music, movies, etc.
iTunes account is used to make iTunes purchases
How do i unsync my iphone from the old computer
You don't "unsync" it.
Copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder from old computer to /Music/ on new computer and yoru iPhone will sync fine with new computer. -
Old computer HDD named Bob, new one named Betty. Trying to transfer crucial files via ethernet. Have connection, can see Bob's public folder on Betty. When try to move or open anything there, tells me I do not have permission to either view or read respectively. I changed permission on the item to read/write for Betty. Made Betty an admin on Bob etc. What can I do?
Thank you!Do have file sharing and remote login checked
When on Betty's computer, Sign into Bob's computer with Bob's username & Bob's Password, instead of Betty's.
BINGO!!!! Problem solved. Many thanks!!!
