HT4527 hi

i am setting up itunes on a new pc. I have home sharing working with both the old and new pc. I moved my playlists but the songs do not show up in the playlists on the new pc?  How do I sync play list content on my new pc with my old pc playlist content?

Sync is only oneway, from PC to your device. Unless you have the music on your PC, iTunes is going to wipe out what you have on your device if you are syncing to a new library.
Copy your iTunes library from your old computer to this new one, refer to this article:
iTunes: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1751
If you have no access to your old computer, you may consider this:
You can only transfer Purchased music over to Itunes on your PC.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848
As for you own music, you may have to use a third party software. A good Free one is called Sharepod which you can download from Download.com here:

  • HT4527 I am trying to transfer music to a new computer using homeshare but it is not working.

I can see the library from the "old" computer and can "select all" as the online help suggests. There is not an "import" button on the bottom right of itunes as the online help suggests and I don't see any options on the drop down menus to do this.  I am using the latest version of itunes 11.0.1.12.

If you're having problems with home sharing, your other options for transferring your music are here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527

  • HT4527 how do i transfer itunes from one computer to another

i have tried using the apple guide to transferring over music however the songs are not showing up in itunes.the apps are showing but also no films etc

It helps to link which "guide" it is you are using.
iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Quick answer if you let iTunes manage your music:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Start iTunes with the option (shift on Windows) key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.

  • HT4527 I want to move all my iTunes from old PC to new PC but Home Sharing on both and it works.  At Step 11, I clicked Home Sharing Import button doesn't work.

Help!  I want to move all my iTunes music, podcasts, etc. from an old PC to a new PC. I set up Home Sharing on both and it works.  I followed the steps in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527 to the letter.  At Step 11, I clicked on Home Sharing on my new PC, then Edit > Select All so I could then import everything to the new computer.  No matter what I try, the Import button doesn't work.  There are two buttons on the lower right hand side of the iTunes screen - one for Settings and one for Import.  The Settings button is clickable but the Import button isn't even live.  In other words, I can see it but not click on it.  I have double-checked my firewall and it is not the problem.  How can I get the Import button to work?

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have failed to move contacts and calendar items across you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

  • HT4527 My old HP computer has died, that had all my music on it. I have now bought a new computer, installed Itunes on my new computer. I was wondering if there was any way my music could ne transferred?

My old HP computer has died which had all my music on it, I reinstalled Itunes on my new laptop....is there any way my music can be put on my new computer??

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Since your old computer is now longer working, the only songs that can easily be transferred are the ones you have purchased from iTunes. If you can access the files from the hard drive of the old computer, you can import those songs into the iTunes library on your new computer. Otherwise, you will need to re-import those songs from their original sources, be it CDs, file sharing sites, etc.

  • HT4527 Help please!! problems with moving to new computer

    Hi,
I've been trying to transfer my i Tunes library to my new computer and have run into problems. I've followed the directions in the article on the apple website HT4527 using the external hard drive method of transfer, and although this has successfully moved all my music I seem to have lost all my playlists. Also my new computer doesn't recognise my iPod or i Phone anymore.
My old computer was running windows XP but I did have the latest version of i Tunes. My new computer is running Windows 7.
    Where did I go wrong?
    AAArgh

I suspect you only copied the media folder, instead of copying the main iTunes folder. Playlists, ratings, play counts etc. are all stored in the iTunes Library.itl file that is the core of your library. Migrate the whole library properly and everything ends up on the new system. This is my suggested process.
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.

I transferred my library to a new laptop and everything appeared on the screen. I turned off the old computer and the library disappeared. How can I make it a permanent transfer as my old computer is being scrapped. Thanks

    Hello Terryfrank,
Congratulations on your new laptop!  Also, thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with transferring your iTunes Library to your new computer.
I notice that you are coming from the article “iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer,” and it sounds like you might have used the Home Sharing method outlined in that article.
With Home Sharing, you can stream content from another computer, and it sounds like that is how you have it currently set up.  The last step is to import the content to your new computer.  Use these steps on the new computer (while the old computer is on) to import the music to your new computer’s hard drive:
Once your new computer sees the Home Share from your old computer, click that Home Share on the left side of iTunes on your new computer.
Select the content in the Home Share that you want to transfer to your iTunes library on your new computer, or choose Edit > Select All to choose all of it. Then, click the Import button in the bottom-right corner of iTunes.
Wait for the content to finish transferring.
Additionally, if you want to transfer your playlists, you can export them from the old computer to the new computer:
    Transferring playlists
If you want not only your content but also your playlists to exist on your new computer, you will want to transfer a copy of all your playlists from your old computer. To do this, choose File > Library > Export Library on your old computer. Save the XML file that is created to your desktop.
Send the playlists file to yourself as an e-mail attachment, use an external drive, or use file sharing to move the playlists file to your new computer. Once the file is on your new computer, open iTunes and choose File > Library > Import Playlist. The import process will remove any items from the playlists that you didn't share via Home Sharing.

  • HT4527 Problems importing playlists into ITunes on a new computer

I followed directions from "HT4527: iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer" by using home sharing.  The songs transferred without problem.  I am having problems moving the playlists (over 100 playlists).  I exported the library file with the playlists and saved it to the new computer in the same subdirectory with ITunes.  I have typed out the library file to verify the playlists exist, but when I try to import playlists, the lists that appear on the target computer are either empty or duplicates of the playlists that existed on the target computer.  I am using the latest version of ITunes.  The transferring computer is a Toshiba laptop running Windows 7.  The target computer is an HP Pavilion computer running Windows XP.  Thanks for any help you can give. I have spent many hours trying to transfer the songs and playlists.

If you still have the computer with your original library these are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer, without needing to export and import playlists.

  • HT4527 Why is it so difficult to transfer?

I do not want to home share, as I will not be near the original computer with all my music. Can i just export the entire library and delete the library from the orginial computer? I will not be using that computer. You guys make it super difficult just to move music around.

    Hello xtrememan91,
It sounds like you want to move your library to a new computer and delete it from the original computer but do not want to use Home Sharing. You can copy your iTunes Library to an external hard drive, and copy that to your new computer. You were on the right track with article number HT4527, which also has instructions for doing it in this manner:
    External drive
Requires additional hardware but backs up your iTunes library.

How do I transfer my music from my iPohone to iTunes

Unless purchased from iTunes, all the music on your iPhone should have come from an iTunes sync. You can only sync with one itunes library. If you syncing with a new iTunes library you will lose all your non-iTune purchases.
If you still have it, you can transfer your old iTunes library to the new computer

  • HT4527 transfer music to a new computer - help!

i have a ton of music that ive collected on my itunes account from various CD's over the last few years. i got a new laptop today and am trying to transfer my library over. only the songs that i have purchased specifically on itunes are transfering over. i have a 5th gen ipod touch and a new acer laptop. i have icloud set up and also subscribed to itunes Match ... am i missing something really obvious?? please help ....

Which of the methods described in the HT4527 article you attached are you using?  It sounds like if only the purchased songs are transferring, you are using the "Transferring Purchases" method, which would not be best in your situation.
If you're going Windows to Windows machines, then use either the Home Sharing method described in HT4527, or you can use iTunes Match as follows.  Those songs in iTunes Match that did not download to your new machine should appear in the iTunes library with a cloud icon with a down-facing arrow inside the cloud.  You can click that icon and cause that song to be downloaded from iCloud.

  • HT4527 Using Home Sharing to Import Music

Regarding the Apple support page here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
I intend to use the Home Sharing option to migrate my music to my new Mac, but iTunes 10.6.3 does not have the "Import" or "Settings" buttons in the bottom right corner. Does anyone know where these buttons are now?

  • HT4527 Can original iTunes folder be deleted after successful transfer to new computer?

I needed to transfer my iTunes library (and playlists, etc) from my old computer onto the new one.  I accomplished that by using my external hard drive and the online tutorial found here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527.  (You copy & paste the iTunes folder from one drive onto the other, more or less... read the tutorial in that link for more info on the steps I took.)
My question is, can the 'original' folder I transferred now be deleted?  Doesn't the 'new' iTunes Media folder make a brand new .itl & .xml file for the library as it now exists on my computer as soon as I open iTunes?  Or is it always going to need the folder I transferred?
I hope I'm asking this right; please ask if clarification or screen shots are needed (I can show the two folders and what they have in them if needed).
    Thanks in advance!!

(Figured it out.)  Ah, well, I just tested a few songs by deleting them from the 'old' library and it had no effect on anything.  So I deleted the entire folder that I moved into the 'new' iTunes Media folder and all is still fine.  It basically made a copy of every song I added, so deleting that original folder from the old computer seems fine.  It's now entirely gone and all my songs still play in iTunes and the new library files (.itl & .xml) were updated to include all the songs before I deleted the old folder.
