You (or a helpful friend) may be able to extract the hard drive from the damaged computer, put it in an external drive bay and extract your iTunes library and other personal data from it. Otherwise see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

If your music collection was purchased from iTunes, you are in a good shape since that music is forever yours under your iTunes account. Therefore, after installing iTunes on your new computer, sign into your account and see all your music under "Purchsed". Then simply download it to be phisically present onto your computer (for free since you've already paid for it). On the other hand if you happens to not be a sucker to waist money on iTunes and your collection was ripped from the internet (via torrents and such), you can follow this guide to move iPod music back to computer. I'm trying to export the files that exist on an ipod classic. It belongs to my girlfriend, and she doesn't want to lose any of the music on it. But she wants to sync to a new PC and not lose the content. So, I want to export all the files and then place those files plus start a new itunes library with it. If I were to sync to my PC, would it erase all of the existing data? Can I buy/download a program that would allow me to upload all of the existing content on her ipod classic to my PC and then take that and place it back on by syncing it through her new laptop and adding the exported files....?

I just got a new laptop and transferred my songs to it. Some of my playlists did not make it over, but are still on my ipod classic. When i connect my ipod classic to the laptop and try to sync, itunes tells me that it will erase all data and then sync it. I do not want to lose my playlists. Any suggestions?

If you transfer your complete iTunes data from your old computer to your new computer, the iTunes library on the new computer is the same iTunes library that was on the old computer. All of your playlists (as well as other supporting data such as ratings and play count) will be there, and your iPod will treat like it as the same iTunes library. What you probably did is move your iTunes media files (such as song files) and added them to a new iTunes library on the new computer.
So, if you still have access to your old computer, with its iTunes library intact, you may want to do the transfer again, following the procedure described here
Back up your iTunes library by copying it to an external drive - Apple Support
There are many steps, but to summarize: (1) Consolidate all of your iTunes user data so that it's in one place, your iTunes folder. (2) Copy that iTunes folder to an external drive. (3) Install iTunes on the new computer (and while iTunes is NOT running), replace the existing iTunes folder with the one from the old computer (on the external drive). When iTunes runs, it uses your old iTunes folder.
Otherwise, if your iPod is the only source available, iTunes syncing is generally in one direction only, from the computer's iTunes library to the iPod, NOT from iPod to computer. However, there are third party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer. If you do an Internet search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links. Some utilities may recover playlist data.

you're missing the concept of iM .. you don't move 'files' from Event to Project Library.. Events is the big box of all your imported clips; now, from that box of bricks, you drag the clips into all kind of projects.. you can 're-use' the same clip again'n again in many projects.. you can use all clips of all Events in one Project.. or all clips of one Event in two projects.. or..

What OS are you running.. this is usually only a problem in Mavericks.
If so I recommend you mount the hard disk manually..
Use Go, Connect to server.
Type in the IP address if static.. eg
AFP://10.0.1.1
Or the name.. but you will have issues unless the name is short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.. if you are using bad names.. fix it by a full factory reset in airport utility and give it all names that comply to the above.
Type in
AFP://TCname.local Where TCname is replaced with the actual name.
You will be asked for the password the first time which is public unless you changed it.. please remember to save this in the keychain.
Copy files then to a new directory you create on the TC.. do not place files inside the TM sparsebundle. Nor directly under the main directory.

Can someone tell me how to move MPEG audio files from my iPod to my library on my computer? Somehow all my songs on my iPod are MPEGs and they won't transfer to the library. I really don't want to loose the music, and there doesn't appear to be an option to convert the MPEG to a ACC file while the MPEG is on the iPod. Please help....

iTunes/iPod does not provide a way of copying tracks from an iPod to iTunes except for purchased music. But iTunes can play MP3 files without conversion.
Here are some ways of getting files from an iPod to your PC:
Copy from iPod to PC
It is important not to allow your iPod to sync with an empty library. If it is set to synchronise automatically you will get a message saying your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to sync – it is important to press cancel as syncing with an empty library erases all music from your iPod.
You can also prevent auto sync by holding down shift & ctrl as you plug in your iPod and keeping the keys held down until the iPod appears in iTunes.
Once you are connected, you need to set your iPod to manage music manually.
